Why dont people drive thier nsx everyday?

I put 5,000 miles on it this summer. Is that too little?

Thats about right for a sissy, you forgot how to return phone calls? I put that on this winter.

Two reasons:

1) Bumper to bumper traffic on my usual commute...

2) Driving the NSX in "new" places often becomes an exercise in trying to not rip the front lip off entering driveways.

I drive mine 1-2 times a week, weather permitting. The reason I don`t drive it every day mirrors those of Shaun and Dam; the car is something special to me, like a bottle of Silver Oak, a 28-day aged prime ribeye, a trip to Italy or sex with my beautiful wife. If I indulged in those every day, they would not be as special.

I only drive mine on weekends. Like mentioned by others; I dont like to sit in traffic in the NSX during my commute. Hence my Fit.

Company truck, company gas, company insurance. I use the truck to haul all my NSX parts in when doing a NSX project. Everyday the cars not on the road, the less chance a 16 yr. old slams into it. It's like getting laid twice a month. You really really look forward to it.

Very true. When its not your dailey driver its much more pleasurable to drive the nsx. When its your everyday car you really do get used to it. Almost takes the fun out of it.

I drove mine daily this week because I am taking it in to get the ProSpeed chip installed.

One of the big reasons I dont DD mine is the stop and go traffic... it is no fun in the NSX. The car wants to stretch its legs and can't. I feel like I am bogging it down. I can't get it out of 2nd gear most of the time because of the speed limit is only 35 on the streets near my work.:frown:

Another reason is the crappy roads that I have to drive on. I have stock suspension and I still get tossed around pretty good and the tires tend to grab on uneven pavement. I can't imagine how bumpy it will be when I lower the car.

Finally, the parking situation. When I drive my NSX, I park in an end spot thats very far from the entrance to my work and it takes a long time to walk back and forth. Often times I find myself thinking about my car wondering if it is okay. I cringe when I read threads about an NSX that is damaged in the parking lot.

In conclusion, I would rather save my NSX for special occasions. Those spirited weekend drives to nowhere in particular on nice twisty roads of my choosing. No stop and go traffic, and no deadlines...Just me, my passenger, and my NSX cruising the open road.

Now that is what I call enjoying the car.

...something special to me...like sex with my beautiful wife. If I indulged in those every day, they would not be as special.

That you should do everyday. As many times as possible.

+1 Unfortunately when I buy parts for my NSX it doesn't help any.

Welp, it depends on where you live. SupraTT owners have NSXs as their daily and the 2JZ for the weekend. I drive my S everyday and when I get my NSX I will do the same. Its just preferences. Some poeple have families and can't drive it even if they wanted to. I'm in MN and its snowing here. I drive the S whenever I can other than that for snow I have my 400hp 4G63T (Spyder also) that works just fine

it is a big waste of money buying an expensive ride and only driving it once a week or a few hours a week, its like buying a ducati bike and riding a few hour on the weekend, pointless... but if you got the money to sit around like that and want to keep your car clean... then i guess its your weekend warrior. but i try ti drive mine daily to work and back... no where far though.

I'd rather drive my toyota and let it take dings, chips, and scratches from everyday driving and keep my NSX in the garage for those nice weekend getaway drives. I don't think it is a waste of money, I think of it as preserving it from everyday abuse.

If I park my NSX next to a daily driven one, you can tell the difference.

I replace my daily drivers every 7-8 years.........I don't plan on replacing my NSX.

I certainly understand others have a different preference/balance in this area and can respect that...you should too. The opposite case (that it's a waste of money TO daily drive) can also be made. I think you're being a bit foolish in implying others' preferred cost/use balance (less cost, occasional use) is objectively inferior to yours (more cost, daily use).

...i try [to] drive mine daily to work and back... no where far though.

Why not to "far" places?

I'm not all that concerned about mileage (far places) but am concerned about wear/tear (frequency of use + time in elements) especially when such results in minimal return. Wear involved with starting the engine from cold twice a day, rush-hour traffic, sitting in sun all day, etc degrades a car significantly more per mile.

Daily driving my NSX for one year I would
  • put on about 2000 miles (live 7 miles from work, church & most stores are closer and on the way).
  • have 600 instances of [starting engine from cold, unlubricated state / open door / slide across bolster / bring dirt into car / coolant system, etc experience thermal expansion]
  • start the engine from warm hundreds of times (errands on way home)
  • have the car ungarraged in the elements 25,000 hours
  • not get to work any faster
  • probably enjoy commute for the first 2 weeks
  • get a lot more rock chips
  • spend a lot more money on vehicle maintenance (pricing of parts for junker vs. NSX)
  • have no choice but to lower degree of cleanliness/maintenance

In contrast, 2000 miles as "pleasure vehicle" probably involves starting the engine (and other related items noted above) 40 times...and a lot of enjoyment (fun roads, less traffic, better scenery, sometimes company of other car enthusiasts).

I drive mine more than most people. I bought it because I hoped it was reliable enough to use as a DD. Some days I don't feel like driving aggressive or most of the trip is boring highway miles. I drive something else if I just want to float down the road.

I'm suprised no one has mentioned cost. I had to park it for almost a year when the clutch went out. I should have done my research before I bought it. Plus tires are a bitch. Buying 18X9 RE050A's every 6k miles aint no picnic. I've owned more than one CAR that cost less than a set of TIRES on the NSX.

Oh yeah, and some people would start crying if their nose looked like this.

i dont think i saw a reply, but to answer your question. No it isnt. it is located in westminster (midway city to be exact) ( beach and bolsa )

show is called dynamic, they usually service lexus/toyotas pretty known shop on the clublexus boards with good reviews. ive been there a few times for my lexus and sonny has always been good.

My car has looked like that lots of times. If fact, it's pretty sorely in need of a wash right now. Lots of rainy days lately.

It may just be me, but I never get tired of driving my NSX. It's been my primary car for 3 years and I still feel its specialness every single time I get behind the wheel. I've averaged 15,000 miles a year and gone on several week+ long road trips and am not tired of driving it. Not even a little bit.

For me the joy of driving it everywhere I go far far outweighs the paint chips and worn seat bolster.

Holy cow!!! Look the front of that NSX. It's TOTALLED!!!. I'm just kidding.

Well, the rain stopped today and the sun is out. I need a haircut. Taking the NSX out for the first time since mid-December.

I forgot mentioned that often people make assumptions. Not everyone keep car clean just because how much they paid. This kind of assumption is quite shallow.

This is my 95 Civic SI 5spd, (pic from 4~5 years ago with really bad camera), 100% original. I used to park this thing away from everyone, wash/wax sameway as I do for nsx. Not a bad habbit in my book, might be eyesore for some, other than that doesn't effect anyone in any apsect.

Price in my opinion has nothing to do with how a lot of people take care of things. I don't see anything wrong with daily driving NSX nor do I feel that is an eyesore. Even with the ones that are trashed. Their car, not my car. Most importantly they look good, I look good. Think of everytime you see a really poorly taken care or seriously negelected NSX out in public. Its cool, but could be better represented.

It is possible to keep daily drivers clean (been doing that for years), just that it is much harder.

Hell what you talkin about Billy I been driving the hell out of my NSX for the last 15 years everyday i drive it like its stolen & it it still, performs like day 1 crusin 140 like im doing 80 in the 55 .

Why dont people drive thier nsx everyday? When I ask somone if they use thier nsx as a daily driver they look at me like I am crazy. lol
I would never pay alot for something that I can't use all the time. Ofcourse if its raining real hard or if you need more room for passengers, don't want other people to scratch it, etc. But EVERYONE here knew before buying this car that these problems can arise and at that time I decided I can afford to take these chances meaning I can buy this car. Why would you buy something you can't fully use or are scared to lose? Its just a car and it doesnt cost over 50K (most of our nsx's) Just wondering how other feel about this. Lot of nsx owner are so anal about thier cars its so funny to person like me to see.

i drive my 1992 NSX to work. only time i do not is if i am expecting a lot of rain. i think my car is hard enough to see even without rain.

 NSX Abuse!!!

Hey, I was wondering, have you considered the perforated mesh stone shields to protect the a/c condensors and the radiator? I installed them and they keep the bugs and junk out of them. They look kind of cool too. I got mine from Dali.

Oh, back on topic... My NSX never sees rain.
