Walked a C6 Z06

2 Words About Chevrolet : Leaf Springs !

Yeah, that's kind of a hater argument. I agree, leaf springs are pretty barbaric, but what Chevy was able to do with them is actually pretty amazing. The car does get around the track faster than just about every modern suspension ever created. You just simply have to give Chevy credit where it's due.

What track and what drivers? And don't pull some amateur racing crap.

How about Car and Driver... oh wait, I am sure you can drive better than all of their test drivers right? Is VIR good enough, or do they need to race you on the street to make it official? Wait... do you even own a NSX?

There were several surprises in this class—and the biggest was the astonishing performance of the base Corvette equipped with the Z51 package.... this time around the Z51 blazed around the course in 3:03.6, . That time bests those of the Audi R8 and Porsche 911 Turbo, cars that cost more than twice as much as the Z51’s base price. As we’ve learned, Corvettes are lap dogs when it comes to obeying commands from the helm, and they have wonderful fade-free brakes and benefit from a smooth 400-hp V-8. But they initially feel spooky, partly because the steering is a bit numb. Once a driver learns to trust the Vette’s chassis, the Chevy can embarrass almost any other car on the track, even if it isn’t as confidence inspiring as a Porsche 911.

Oh that horrid chevy suspension...

Nordschleife.

C5 ZO6 driven by Dave Hill: 7:56.0
C6 ZO6 driven by Jan Magnussen: 7:42.9

996 TT driven by Horst von Saurma: 7:56.0
996 GT2 driven by von Saurma: 7:46.0

Both the 997 GT2 driven by Walter Rohrl and Gemballa Porsche GTR come in at 7:32.0

The C6 ZO6 is faster than the Gallardo SL, Pagani Zonda S (von Saurma) and the Ferrari 599 (von Saurma). All have more bhp and more "modern" suspensions.

Nice, don't forget NSX-R 3.2 - 7:56 -- I don't recall who drove.. was it Gan San???

I would love to see what a NSX-R witha CTSC would do on the 'ring and then another one with the Lovefab at about 400rwhp.

Anyone know what a stock NSX 3.2 runs at VIR? I know we have several members that have driven it.

No, you really don't, but it's obvious you feel you need to.

At least some people on here can make more educated comments than...."leaf springs"..

So why do you feel the need to comment on my comments? You certainly don't have to, but always seem to need to.

I've got this on my truck:

Outhandles the NSX now......

BTW are those leaf springs steel or composite? I haven't looked.

I know they make composites for replacements on the older Vettes, in the aftermarket. What are those in the C6?

So you are comparing it to a 996 and this impresses you? I'm glad you beat an older porsche around the ring. Last I checked the 997 is the current and dominate porsche.

That's the $64,000 question. Somebody, maybe me, did a very rudimentary extrapolation once. A high-boost CTSC NSX-R would be a force to be reckoned with for sure. I would imagine the Nordschleife times would probably be somewhere in line with the Gallardo SL and the 996 GT2 at about 7:44-7:46 or about 10-12 sec. quicker than a stock NSX-R, maybe even more. That would be very close to the C6 ZO6 as well as the 997 GT3 and knocking on the door of the top 10 fastest production cars ever.

Once again, Nordschleife:

997 GT3: 7:42.x driven by Walter Rohrl.

C6 ZO6: 7:42.9

Virtually identical, leaf springs and all. Boy, you are having a really tough time giving the ZO6 any credit aren't you?

Don't be too hard on him. It is a school night and he needs to get to sleep so he can be at class on time. Those high schools start early these days.

Come one dude.

American Steel baby.

Composites are for girlie men.

sheesh.

Let's just say that I've surprised the heck outta some of these sport sedans on slalom and corners.

"oh, look honey, lemme just negotiate around this POS Yankee truck......oh sheesh, golly gee I'm having a hard time taking him.... oh his pulling away......
