Rocker Panels

stacy, sorry for being a pain, wondering what will your side skirt look like without the front spoiler, I really like your creation, it's really what I have in mind, but I really wonder how it would go with factory front ends. with or without painting the front lip.

Henry, no offense, but majority of us, including Stacy, doesn't enjoyed the 355 / WW imitation of having a vent, no saying they look bad, I guess most of the aftermarket skirt had that vent and we got tired of it. ;) The cleaner styling is what we are after.

Stacy one more question: how much weight are we putting on the car with your kit?? :)

As far as the look with a factory front end, look at an '02 and imagine it just a little lower, It will look great with or without the WW front lip.
The goal is to have weight and quality as good as or better than oem.
The skirts and door pieces will be fiberglass or possibly Carbon depending on costs etc.
Not trying to speak for Stacy, but I know he has put an obscene amount of work into this project and he wants it to be right.

If I am not mistaken don't they all have that little rubber(plastic) piece at the bottom of the front bumper.I think it would look fine.My attitude is if you are doing a bodykit, you do all of the kit.(just my opinion). It seems most people are doing the '02 rear valence anyway,so this side looks great with it.As far as weight,do not know yet 'till I bust one out of a mold.I will weigh it then.Again my skirt is only 1.25 inches lower than stock(nothing excessive like the first couple of tries).I think Edgmts says it best.As far as fitting like factory,I am doing my best, but like any fiberglass part it will have to be fitted to your car!You never know about the vent in the rocker,if everything goes well with these, then maybe it could happen.

Thanks Stacy

You talked about doing the other side. If you want to use your prototypes, then this is necessary. If you want to go straight to tooling, you can have a 3D scan of your current parts done, and then mirror them to get passenger side models.

Once you go to get tooling cut, having them in a digital format will make the process easier too.

Designing aftermarket cosmetic parts is what I do all day, though most of our stuff is for trucks.

Stacy, you have nailed it. Stop fussing with it, make the mold and I am in, for those who know me, to do a body kit is a huge step, something I never would have done untill I started following this thread. Very clean lines.

OK guys I have finished the passenger side more or less. The rest will be up to the bodyshop. The molds were a bit more than expected, but fair since I need to do each of the door pieces in two parts(to keep them light as possible). The door pieces need to be done this way because of the 1/2inch thickness of them, and being solid is not really an option. As far as pricing:ALL KITS INCLUDE 2-Rocker panels and 2-Door fill pieces.Shipping not included(usually not too bad, once I have the piece at my brokers I will confirm).

First five kits will sell for $800.00 US plus shipping.

How I came up with the pricing was price of molds and lay up fees. These are hand laid from a very competent local race car builder.I have known this fellow for alot of years and TRUST his work!He is a bit more but I am not willing to gamble on this part of it.His process will be light as possible adding in reinforcement where needed. The "skirts" will have the holes cut out so you won't need to cut the tabs off the bottom of your sill plates. The weight of them will be determined when I get the first set done,at which point I will post.I was lifting parts this fellow has made(fenders, hoods, and even snowmobile hoods) and they were light. The wormanship I seen was impeccable.Besides factory NSX skirts are $2284.00 retail!I as know now from a few you are able to purchase factory ones for around $1400.00-.$1500.00
I figure my price is good considering the work involved in the two door pieces.
If you think about it I believe Vinny's were around $650-680.00 and they didn't have the door pieces. So I tried to price accordingly.First batch will be ready in 4 weeks or so.First run will poduce 5 sets.Do understand like any fiberglass kit of this many pieces, will need to be fitted.Mine are also about 1.25 inches lower than stock.
Thanks all.

I came by to take a look at this mans work and it is really solid. nice fit to go along with the body lines of the nsx. now can i get a discount? j/k! thanks for the cluster rings. they fit really good and look damn nice! you'll be hearing from me soon and keep up the good work.

Rick.

Can someone Photo Shop a Grand Prix White car??

Mitch the one to do photoshop is vizal. As far as pictures,They will come soon.I am in the process of making the molds as we speak.I only tried the "plugs" on his car.I wanted to be sure that the side skirts would fit all cars not just mine(you never know sometimes). The fellow that wrote those words(NSX_V)Seen them on my car.Upclose!
Soon guys,REALLY SOON.
Thanks.
Stacy

PS: I also changed the back part against the wheel. It doesn't go straight down, but instead has a gentle, small arc to it.Much more attractive that way!

Stacy,

Great job. I think it looks great.

I only have one question. Now the front and side line up really nice, but the rear spats just seem to high off the ground and it doesn't flow. Do you have any ideas for designing a rear that will flow with the lower front and sides?

When I changed the rear part of the side skirt(as I said above)it doesn't look quite so different,at least visually. It looks similiar in height as the Vinny's side skirts.I was thinking of building the back piece.Actually, last night,I went into the garage and took a good look at doing just that. The only problem is that I want to do a centre out exhaust(possibly). So I know that isn't what alot of you have.So I probably will axe that idea and try to build one for normal exhaust. That being said,What should it look like.Rear spats somehow.I think wings west had a kit that just attached to stock parts, possibly could make something along those lines or a whole new piece!Should it look like the factory only lower?Anyway,I will need to see how many side skirts sell.If I sell alot of them, then yes, just like the rockers,we will take ideas and BUILD!Obviously has to be worth while!Once we have the final product(side skirts) and actual pictures of it on the car,we will post and and take ideas on the back piece.
Thanks.
Stacy

I'm glad to hear the the lines will be curved to match the wheel wells. If the pieces look like they could have been designed by the factory and flow smoothly with all the OEM lines, I may be a buyer.

Stacy,
The pricing you gave, is that in Canadian dollars or in USD? I really like the skirts, just its hard when the WW ones or only $300 USD. Would you sell the kit cheaper without the door blends?

The kit is USD.The kit needs the door pieces otherwise it doesn't look right.Look at my avatar picture.Needless to say, that is one of the reasons I built these.I personally didn't mind the look(just a little flat looking IMO) of WW but the fit wasn't very good at all(on mine anyway). If I am not mistaken I think I read somewhere WW is out of business.Do a search on side skirts and see what other companies are asking for there pieces.WW is the cheapest I can't deny that, but I couldn't even produce these for that.(not even close).
I believe factory pricing on the side skirts is $2284.00 retail.I think some people have been getting a pretty good discount on them, paying around $1400.00-1500.00 usd.So I think mine are priced accordingly!Again price of molds and pulling each piece off is not all that easy.My skirts are also about 1.25 inches lower than WW or stock, giving you a lower look.

hey Jin i just saw your reply and noticed your car is no longer widebody??!?? Curious why the change, and have you gone back to all oem body parts? I just completed the 04 front and rear conversions on my 95 midnight pearl and almost decided to widebody it, but thought about it and wanted to have a style that would last for a while after all this work... why the sudden change?

Chris

Many reasons:
1. High speed stability is less than stock especially more than 200km/hr
2. Parents fear of authority (it is illegal to modify your car without the dealer approval)
3. High running cost of the rear tires (19 inch)
4. Tired of hiding from the authority.
5. Proved my points to my friend that putting sideskirts to your car does not make it widebody and overkill all my friend body modification.

Side skirts

Ok all,
I weighed them today:'91 factory skirt weighs 4.936lbs(correct me if I am wrong)

My skirts weigh:rocker panel 4.883lbs
door piece .916lbs(we may be able to shave a little off of this as well)
Total weight=5.799lbs per side

The reason for a little more weight is mine are quite a bit lower than stock(overall bigger skirt),plus the addition of the door piece.
There will be,like most fiberglass parts, the need to be fitted to your car.
I have made special mounting brackets(included in the kit)that will support the whole skirt under the door sill($80.00 value). There will be a need to cut off the long tabs off you door sills(nothing major).
The mounting hardware needed will consist of a few products;
1-urethane to hold front part of skirt and door piece.
2-double sided tape of about 5ft.
All these things are readily available from bodyshop where you will have your skirts fitted and installed.

Any questions feel free to ask via P.M. or e-mail
