You raced an entry level Toyota, and felt compelled to post about it?
I am all for the occasional spirted drive, assuming road conditions are optimal, but one of the prerequisites I have is that the other car be something worth losing to.
What would be the upside of losing to a Scion?
Hey Sokudo88,
Don't sweat it. To be honest with you, I believe it is probably NOT wise race everyone who tempts you. Don't listen to some of these guys that preach as though they've never pressed down on the accelerator a bit harder than usual when someone is toying with them for fun.
As for me, when guys drive foolishly in an attempt to get my attention and taunt me into a race, I just slow down and remind myself "hey, I'm driving an NSX that I worked damned hard to own and pay off; he, is driving a (enter other crappy car here) so it's not worth my time. I got my NSX when I was 24. I admit I was easily tempted by jerks that kept taunting me. Now, I just ignore them and cruise, just like you would brush off some dust off your pimp shirt:wink:
Truth is, anyone can make a refrigerator on wheels super fast if they throw enough money into it. There will likely be those cars that will surprise you with there speed which much belies there stock performance.
Having said that, I find nothing wrong with playing around with a little acceleration, so long as you are not foolish and are aware of your surroundings and environment. From what I gather, you were cruising at 70mph, down shifted from 5th gear to 3rd gear, and accelerated up to 90+ (hopefully you didn't go beyond that speed, as this would be unwise). Then you were mildly surprised that you didn't leave the Scion as far behind as you might have expected. Does this sound accurate? A previous poster mentioned another driver that was racing at 155mph and got caught and fined. I'm just guessing here, but I believe you were never anywhere near that speed.
I'm sorry so many other prime members have been so harsh:redface: . It's something I've come to expect here. However, there are a number of Prime members that will give you their opinion in a civil, non-condescending manner, as well as some good advice. Don't let it get to you.
So...I say....Take the NSX to the track and have some fun
quotes, " im like that bro. anyone who wants to try to race me, i'll give them some...i'ts my nature"
one day, u will taste the result because anyone who tries to race u, u will give a tough respond. If any Evo, STI, S2000, 350Z, or civic tries to race my nsx on highway or local, i will just ignore any of them. WHY? i dont want to get caught. what do you acquire if u win? feeling cool with it? getting more attention from girls?
hell no ,dude. do u see those ferrari, lambo being crazy on raod? rarely. maybe very few. nsx isn't cheap. if u crash it, u gonna cry. no matter how much money u have, u may not find a same one immediately. it's very limited and rare. sometimes u can play it a while, but not like u gonna race anyone if any of them tries to challenge u. more u race , higher possibility that u get caught.
u aren't enjoying ur car. we all think u are either destroying your car or yourself. dont race too much. slow down and relax. u get more attention from people ( they dont involve cops). u will feel how nice nsx is when u show off.

the way l see it,you where out driving your nsx, enjoying your pride
and joy, you've only had the car for a short period of time, you've spend alot of money on the car, some guy come up behind you( really fast) and you down gear and take off, leaving him behind you   nothing wrong with that. every driver know the limit of there car,and the laws
of the roads to which they are driving on. anyone who said that they have never done what you did before rite,
Have fun. Drive safe. Enjoy.
It is all good and gravy as long as
you are being careful. Tho unfortunately, at times,
accidents do happen beyond our controls.
With that said,
I will keep in mind...
I would not mess with a little panda Trueno
if I was driving through Mt. Akina pass
at 4am in the morning. Trying to outrun that
thing will get you owned!
that's what i am saying. i doubt there's nobody out there who never put their foot to the pedal to the floor...
Sokudo, I hate to say it but i race once already.
It was late at night the freeway was empty. By coincidence, A friend of mine in a yellow S2000 wearing a silly helmet found me, and wanted to race. I slowed down to 55mph hoping he'll just forget about it... but he didn't, i kinda knew he wouldn't stop instigating...
I was tempted and gave in. I downshifted to 2nd ran it to the top of 2nd (80mph), by that time, he was far behind, i just slowed back down to 65 mph. he caught up an we just cruized the rest of the way.
So i hate to say it i raced to 80mph on an empty freeway. And had loads of fun.
Granted I probably won't race past 80mph. (which is why i love the stock 5 speed)
65-70 you should shift to 2nd... you would have left him in the dust!!!
You RACED!!??
Oh My GOD! You'll fry in hell forever! How could you do such a thing you most irresponsible poster ever in eternity who probably runs over animals just for fun!
One mention of the R word and the knives come out here on Prime, but you already know that now
I am not here to judge, really, Im not but I would like to give you some insight. I have some long time freinds that are really into cars as much as I am.
One is a mustang freak that car is scary in every turn, even after 10K of suspension work.. lol
One has the Mercedes E55... looks like a grocery getter
One has a Peter Ferrel built RX-7 that has 10K miles on it. It looks great but we dont see those cars on the road anymore cause they dont last ...lol
My last buddy has a twin turbo supra. You know the one with that big asss space shudle wing and the foggy head lights..
I bought the nsx because I was in love from the very first time I saw it. But let me tell you, E V E RY one of my buddies passed me around like I was their prison Biaaach. Not fun.
We "raced" with MIR time slips that had to be signed by a witness.
Sad fact; Our cars, in terms of power are just not relevant anymore. I am not preaching , "dont race". I am just agreeing that you should chose a situation where "glory can be acheived". Racing a scion is like fighting a girl. If you choke slam her and brag ... Dude ! you just choke slammed a girl, so what.
But OMG ... if she choke slams you, your buddies will ride you like sea biscuit. You will be all over scion dot com before you can say NSX_NICK. lol and if you were my friend I would tease you more than I teased my Dallas buddies after T.O. pulled a Hilary clinton on national television. ROTFLMAO
:: flame suit on:: lol
I have faced the music, our car is old, NEONS are faster, but at the end of the day, we have this sexy girl called an nsx and they have a shtbox.
Hey ! do what I do... I have a 1974 datsun 260 that I am about to put an ls1 into:biggrin: in local scca (parking lot cones) I crushed a BMW m3 ... oh boy was I talking Roy Jones Jr. amounts of shit. He should not have raced me for all of the same reasons you shouldn't race scions.
The last car I raced was a 400hp 2007 Corvette. My NSX is stock, and I took him 2 out of 2 times by 1/2 a car.
Something must be up with your car.
70 into second? That would alomst be worth it.
