raced a TC SCION lst night....huh ?

"yo'... I kept up w/ an NSX!"

downshifted to 3rd from 5th...
Downshifted from 3rd to 5th? You mean upshifted? You shifted up to 5th gear and took off and you don't understand why you didn't pull away from him quicker? Plus you're doing highway speeds and you're just chilling in 3rd gear?
Though stated not in the most clear manner, the original poster went from 5th gear to 3rd gear.

That's exactly how some Mustang, Camaro, and even C4 owners felt after they got spanked by my 95 GSR. But I have no rear seats on sound deadening and I've done some work on it. I'm sure the new GT Stangs, any Cobra, or a Camaro SS would whip me like a little girl. It's all about the driver too though!

and this wasn't on streets, so before you even start....

at 60mph you should drop down to 2nd gear and you'd pull on him like no tommorow.

i am a bit suprised about these cars. how many hp do they have in stock version ? i wz cruizin' at 65-70 on the hwy and this scion pulled up behind me and i guess.......he wanted a taste of my newly installed spugen exhaust !

downshifted to 3rd from 5th and we went at it. i was surprised that i didnt
leave him that bad. he kept up for a while until i started to pull away. maybe he had a turbo or supercharged installed . but still, it caught me by surprise.

it was a good race though...

im like that bro. anyone who wants to try to race me, i'll give them some...
i'ts my nature. i've own so many cars, spend so much money on all them and why not enjoy the money and work you have done to it ? heck, my last car was a lexus sc300 with a twin turbo engine swap. that was the most intense project i ever had.

I don't know what the revs are like in 5 spd gearing, but I agree with above that dropping to 2nd would have been the better move. Why are you racing 4 cyl FWD Toyotas anyway?

did i mention it was on the street? i would never race on the street.
it happned on the frwy....do-do

secondly, i've only had the nsx since july of last year and rarely drive it and just barely getting used to it. buddy, have you seen me posting a lot here before?

that answers your questions......thank you.

"it was a good race though..."

No it wasn't.

#1 It was on the street.
#2 You screwed up and were in the wrong gear.
#3 You came here to tell the world #1 and #2.

i'll keep that in mind next time......tks for the heads up !

Re: "yo'... I kept up w/ an NSX!"

sorry, i meant to say i downshifted from 5th to 3rd.....

i meant to say from 5th to 3rd...

ever since i got my new exhaust installed, iv been driving the nsx a little bit crazy so when this scion pulled up and wanted to race, i gave him some.

but it's all good. the point is i didnt embarrass myself and my car and i totally enjoyed the ride. besides, i already pulled away on my friend's nissan 350z a few months ago. he was a bit surpised as well.

For all you guys complaining about the changing demographics of Prime, I'm part of the younger generation of owners.... and I'd say this guy is more of the exception than the rule. I wouldn't sweat it.

Also... if you're going to have a little highway pull with someone, why would you waste your time on a Scion? You know what, sometimes it's cool to just look at them and smile and do nothing... at the end of the night you're going home in an NSX and he's going home in a Scion so who cares. Just leave him wondering.

Actually in your opening post you stated it was a HIGHWAY and not a FRWY like you are stating now. Anyway, that is just a different terminolgy for the same thing.
ANYTHING that ISN'T on a track or drag strip is considered street racing. Just because the name of the road might now actually have the word 'street' in it doesn't make it any better.
From the sound of most of your posts it sounds, at least to me, like you are more concerned with impressing others than anything else.

You raced an entry level Toyota, and felt compelled to post about it?

I am all for the occasional spirted drive, assuming road conditions are optimal, but one of the prerequisites I have is that the other car be something worth losing to.

What would be the upside of losing to a Scion?

+1. If your out racing Scions, I think your a little immature to own a NSX. Just my .02.

saw your AU pic..Uga Grad...gooooo Ga...

65-70 you should shift to 2nd... you would have left him in the dust!!!

Thats what I was thinking...

Guy in town have 750whp one, but recently sold it. He still could not go very fast, but only because he kept breaking things when he tried ;) I think he went through different 3 engines, but I don't know for sure.

If you think race on highway that equals more safe than street,u will be totally wrong. guess what. my friend told me that someone tried 155 mile/ hr on highway and got caught. it's 1000 bucks pelnaty plus 1 month license suspension. of course, insurance will increase, too. even himself, he tried 100 miles/ hr in local and got caught, too. i rarely race on highway or street. i raced a hyundai in about 10 secs when i just got my nsx within 2 weeks. i suddenly realized that i was doing something stupid. why should i race a crappy V6 with 190 HP car? that insults nsx. I slowed down immediately. once u raced on highway, ur speed is extremely fast. and both of ur cars are screaming. u wont worry about those cops can follow the speed that u racing. but if any cop is front of u, the sound will suddenly grab his attention. even u breaking hard, it's too late. if he wants to be an ass that brings u trouble, it will be considered as street racing. that's no joke.

i tried my 97 nsx vtec power 3 days ago. i was going from 55 mile/hr with 3rd gear. then i just speed up directly. it's already fast enough. it's not a 4 cylinder NA engine can compare with.

quotes, " im like that bro. anyone who wants to try to race me, i'll give them some...i'ts my nature"

one day, u will taste the result because anyone who tries to race u, u will give a tough respond. If any Evo, STI, S2000, 350Z, or civic tries to race my nsx on highway or local, i will just ignore any of them. WHY? i dont want to get caught. what do you acquire if u win? feeling cool with it? getting more attention from girls?

hell no ,dude. do u see those ferrari, lambo being crazy on raod? rarely. maybe very few. nsx isn't cheap. if u crash it, u gonna cry. no matter how much money u have, u may not find a same one immediately. it's very limited and rare. sometimes u can play it a while, but not like u gonna race anyone if any of them tries to challenge u. more u race , higher possibility that u get caught.

so, what is your point? i am just enjoying my car like everybody else.

u aren't enjoying ur car. we all think u are either destroying your car or yourself. dont race too much. slow down and relax. u get more attention from people ( they dont involve cops). u will feel how nice nsx is when u show off.

that's your opinion and im not being immature. im just having fun with my car.

gee, i shudn't have posted this thread after some bashing here and there.
i honestly thought this forum is way better than clublexus.com since people here are more mature. what's wrong with having fun with your own car? am i making you guys feel embarrassed the fact that i raced a scion tc ? what's the deal here?
you dont expect me to pay 5 figures and not have a few funs with it , do you ?

some guys are for show, some are for "go speed" or both. i am a little bit of both. that's my character.
just my 02 cent......

+1. If your out racing Scions, I think your a little immature to own a NSX. Just my .02.

and how would you know im not enjoying my car or not? i enjoy it everytime i get behind the wheel...
isn't that for me, the driver, to think what i like to do or not with my ride ?
i am not even close to destroying my car. i baby this car ever since i got it and im still in the process of modding.
heck, this was only the 2nd time i abused ithe car. how will i learn what the car can do if at least i dnt drive it hard once a while? i dont race at all, period, espclly on the streets. i was before with my lexus but not with the nsx.

bro, i am more careful than you think when it comes to racing espclly on highways. i know my limits and i know when to stop. i never said racing on the highway is safer than racing on the streets. i dont even race on the streets. i just barely got the car and rarely drive it like twice a month or even once a month.

you raced a hyundai and you felt stupid afterwards, right? well, i didnt feel the same after racing the scion. i was just having fun, that's all. if members here feel kind of ashamed or embarrassed for this thread, then i apologize for sharing my experience with the nsx. honestly, i dont care what people think....and it shud be like that anyways.

i never had speeding tickets and im not asking for one......(knock on wood).
i have a good record since i started driving when i was 16 yrs old. yup, you got that right ! i went to all kinds of things when it comes to street racing. 15 yrs ago, i had two of my friends who got shot and died at the scene of illegal street racing. i think that was more involved in a gang violence though.

Hey Sokudo88,

Don't sweat it. To be honest with you, I believe it is probably NOT wise race everyone who tempts you. Don't listen to some of these guys that preach as though they've never pressed down on the accelerator a bit harder than usual when someone is toying with them for fun.

As for me, when guys drive foolishly in an attempt to get my attention and taunt me into a race, I just slow down and remind myself "hey, I'm driving an NSX that I worked damned hard to own and pay off; he, is driving a (enter other crappy car here) so it's not worth my time. I got my NSX when I was 24. I admit I was easily tempted by jerks that kept taunting me. Now, I just ignore them and cruise, just like you would brush off some dust off your pimp shirt:wink:

Truth is, anyone can make a refrigerator on wheels super fast if they throw enough money into it. There will likely be those cars that will surprise you with there speed which much belies there stock performance.

Having said that, I find nothing wrong with playing around with a little acceleration, so long as you are not foolish and are aware of your surroundings and environment. From what I gather, you were cruising at 70mph, down shifted from 5th gear to 3rd gear, and accelerated up to 90+ (hopefully you didn't go beyond that speed, as this would be unwise). Then you were mildly surprised that you didn't leave the Scion as far behind as you might have expected. Does this sound accurate? A previous poster mentioned another driver that was racing at 155mph and got caught and fined. I'm just guessing here, but I believe you were never anywhere near that speed.

I'm sorry so many other prime members have been so harsh:redface: . It's something I've come to expect here. However, there are a number of Prime members that will give you their opinion in a civil, non-condescending manner, as well as some good advice. Don't let it get to you.

So...I say....Take the NSX to the track and have some fun

Just my .02 cents here but (and i'm only 28) IMO racing on anything but a track is just asking for trouble. But I guess I may be spoiled having 2 tracks in my town to play on whenever i want to. But more importantly I get challanged at least 10-12 times a day when i take my nsx out, and i turn them all down, why? Cause its an nsx, and if i were to ever loose to a scion/civic/eclipse/etc well man... you'd never live it down. Most people i've met hold the NSX up with an almost mystical reputation (and its well deserved) why tarnish it by screwing around with moms old grocery hauler?

I drive in the slow lane most of the time and yes, I get the rice buckets with their body-kits flapping in the wind trying to race me but I save them the embarassment and myself the ticket, all they want to do is make themself feel better. I dont give them the option, so they drive away mad, and I park my car in the garage happy and ticket free. "really dude, please. your playin with an NSX. You must not know cars very well.
