New 2004 nsx build

thanks baynsac I wish more people would put time and effort into rebuilding them instead parting them out ya know.

just wanna make a buck to part them out. not good.

but if they didnt we wouldnt have parts to buy to fix them up again. LOL

Engine hoist finally arrived. yeahhhh

open the box no chains. not even a hook. LOL so I gotta go to the store tomorrow and pick some up.

then the fun......begins.

updates and pics soon.

Shawn, can make sure you document the steps you took to remove the engine/tranny assembly. I'd like to do this sometime in the future when I get enough nerve built up to disassemble it.

There are probably a thousand tiny detail steps to watch out for, so document, document document!!! Or better yet, video tape! Either way, you're man.. keep going!...

once its dropped will then hoist the engine onto the engine stand. and the work will begin. so far its been fairly easy the Service Manual has lots of steps to get the engine out but since most of the plastics were melted away it has saved me tons of steps. LOL

Nikey22 - I don't think you want to follow his steps... :)

yeah I agree since lots of steps were skipped as most of the engine plastics were melted I wouldnt SAW-ZAW anything out of a normal car. LOL

but I will document as much as possible.

I got the engine Hoist, and engine stand but its been either raining, and/or cold as shit or other obligations and its killing me not having anytime to work on it. Uggghh "Please Dear god let work on the NSX you provided me" lol

but I have the body shop ( http://www.extrememotorcar.com/ )ready to start painting as soon as the engine is out. I was going to scrap, sand and clean the engine bay myself to save money but F-it let the body shop do it, I will just pay extra for a Pro cleaning ya know.

Shawn I'm really excited to see you taking on this task. I love to see someone willing to put the time and money into bringing a NSX back to life. Have you thought about making a NA2 Type R out of it? Since it is a salvage car, there's no harm in changing the color. ;)

Keep up the good work! I really respect people who have the courage and determination to see this kind of work through. Giving the NSX a new life, one more to stay in the community!

Honcho, naaa the car is mint all the way around so Im gonna keep it OEM color, just paint the parts thats are damaged, but its a thought

dropped the engine today I am uploading the pics now so check back in 15 minutes. LOL

it was so easy I did it by myself with no help. Over thought the process so it was cake work.

the burns in the engine bay are less than i thought, yeah, the engine still needs work but she is out.

will remove the engine from the sub-frame tomorrow and re-assemble the subframe dampers and springs put the wheels back on and tow it to the Paint shop monday.

check back in 15 for the pics from today. for all of those watching this thread are you excited yet?

Yeah, so hurry up with the damn pics

The engine is really easy to drop, I have done it a few times, good to hear the frame looks good and should be an easy fix getting her painted.

sorry same last 2 pics will fix later. I think I have 3-4 more I have not uploaded yet sorry my little 7 month old son is in my lap watching me type

hard to type with one hand and load pics. ahhh fatherhood. LOL

Wow, looks great Shawn, the subframe and suspension control arms don't have any damage, but that motor is toast, probably also the trans. Amazing the fire cracked and bent the magnesium valvecover, looks like most of the fire was contained on the motor.

Best way to check all the sheet metal inside the engine bay for any fatigue would be taking a chipping hammers point and tapping areas where its burned, if it pokes thru, the aluminum is done and either needs patching or replacement.

If you scrap the motor, I would be interested in some of the damaged parts for future welding on. IE valve covers, Intake Manifold

yeah it bowed it a little but didnt get into the valve cover. I will take those off tomorrow to check. I checked the other side and its fine. I mean I am still gonna need NEW valve covers cuz these are toast.

will bang the frame all over with a punch pin to see if any metal damage.

but I have High hopes for this engine. will remove tranny and check it out

I am sure she is fine. but all the tests will be performed

heres a ( Jurassic Park ) quote " we spared no expense "

That might be to much pressure and dimple the metal wherever its punched, but i'm sure you'll figure out a good method

engine bay looks better then expected .. all things considered!!!

Engine itself.... looks scary to me. But i'm sure once you get it on a stand and take of the intake manifold, valve covers, timing cover and get the mangeled parts out of they way it will start to look much better and make you feel energized and even more motivated.

please keep the pics coming. looking forward to see the engine bay after the respray.

Wow Shawn, I just noticed this thread today. I gotta give you props for doing all this in your driveway and not some nice shop. Thats determination. Can't wait to see more progress.

Shawn - I look forward to your updates on the progress each day. Great project!

One side note...A hollow cinder block is a bad choice for a jack stand support. Please change that.

NH123 thanks its all I had at the time I have better now,

and its back on all 4 legs stands. was scary when the car started to roll forward I lowered the car quick then I ran and got tire stumps to stop it. LOL.

took more pics today Of both valve covers off in better lighting.

took spark plugs out and they looked new. the burn marks were consistant with newer plugs so the previous owner must have just had them replaced before the car burned.

now its chiping away the melted plastic and remove the gas tank today.

removed all the heat sheilds and the paint is still new behind them LOL

the heat sheild really helped in saving the car further damage.

its long long process every bolt needs to be removed for the paint shop to do a great job on the paint.

more pics today stay tuned...

You Guys are never gonna believe this.......

went to drop the gas tank and I remember the instrument cluster said Full Tank.

well I figured there was gonna be a little bit of gas left after the burn so I get a small bucket.

took the bolt off and bammmmm filled the bucket in like 2 seconds. I put the bolt back On thinking I am gonna need something bigger, so I got one of those huge bottle water containers that stand upside down, that hold 5 gallons each

I filled 3 of them to the brim with gas,, and about half of the 4th one.

so during the fire no gas was burned from the tank.

no f-ing way........ I took a pic of the last fill post later

no way,, no way,,, you say " I swear to Jesus as my Lord, and strike me down if I am lie'n "
