Why take a NSX over a SupraTT?

That's why I got them all.

Very nice. You and I have 2 cars in common. How's the R33? Mine is getting tinted today ;)

Z32TT is a great car, had one of those too back in the day!

i'm only working on a two car garage, but i'm content with the 300ZX TT and NSX. sexiest cars of the bunch that make a modern supercar owner do a double take, followed by staring and drooling, and all i have to do is add wheels and lower it. its my dream garage if you will.

rx-7 isn't bad looking, but it needs a tasteful body kit to bring out the sexy.

i can live vicariously through my friends for turbo rotary and single turbo 2jz madness... definitely cool cars, but not cars i would own.

skyline GT-R... built RB with monster AWD launch is sweet. the car itself doesn't impress, but the powertrain sure does. i don't have any friends to live vicariously through anymore because their cars were taken by the government. :( this one i might own, but considering the cost and legality issues, i just can't. if i lived in canada i would have one for sure. cheap and legal, so i could easily have a 3rd toy.

Naw, it just needs to be lowered, sexy wheels, and a '99 lip.

well, i certainly don't see it being on the same level as an NSX or 300ZX TT in terms of styling. its an attractive car, but i still believe it needs a nice body kit to be seen on the same level. just my opinion though.

It's hard to get a body kit for the FD's organic lines that doesn't clash.

sorry, but i'm not feeling the burnout kit. i'd just leave it stock over that. my friend has the FEED kit which works.

Both RX7 and NSX have nice lines compared to other japanese car. Both tail lamps are unique. And they are timeless design. RX7 looks way better than the new RX8. GTR to bland. Supra a bit bloated. 3000GT a bit too heavy (my bro had one then sold it after the accident). Sorry my supra friends if you are reading this.

Btw RX7 looks a lot better in its original form. The same goes to the NSX.

Agree with this... I like them all for what they are, but to me they really fall into different groupings...

The NSX, IMO, is the only Japanese car of the era even *near* exotic

RX7 was a great sports car, nice and light, clean... but it was not remotely exotic iMO. It was a great evolution of that platform, which, IMO has always sort of chased Porsche a bit... From a near 914 analogue in the 70s, through being a sort of 924 analogue in the 80s, to the RX7 which in some ways leapfrogged Porsche a bit in that Porsche sort of left that category alone. Of course shortly after they released the Boxster and switched to midengine platform which IMO is a whole lot better.

The Supra I always viewed as a kind of Japanese muscle car. It's almost the spiritual predecessor of the current GTR in many ways in that it was pretty easy to drive fast and was a platform almost made for tuners to pull power from. The looks were pretty bland though and Supra seemed to aim at the Corvette crowd. Of all of them though, the Supra is my favorite by far (leaving NSX out)

The R3x to me was always a visual disaster. I just hate the look of it. I know thats blasphemy, and I know the #s are great, but it just looks like a riced out family car to me. I do like the new GTR a lot better, although I still wouldnt buy one.

The VR4, to me, was by far the worst of the bunch. My friend had the balls out VR4 spyder, modded, etc. It just looked like a visual mess IMO and weighed a ton. I know it had some great capabilities and has some huge fans, and all of this is subjective, but I see that one as the absolute *least* timeless of the designs.

The NSX, IMO, is the true classic. The #s dont tell the full tale. It's obvious that Honda was hunting the F348 and they succeeded. Everything from the hand made aluminum construction, to the sedated Ferrari ripoff styling (LOL), to the mid-engine platform and the great sound... All of this said "Ferrari ripoff from Japan". They did a great job and as a result the car has become an automotive industry classic. The others really have not. They have niche fanatics, but they arent widely acknowledged as truly significant for the industry.

Now of course Ferrari figured it out immediately, answered with the F355 which, IMO, really is one of the finest sports cars ever produced and kind of shreds the NSX, and the rest is history since Honda gave up :D

Honda didn't really give up... the NSX-R can run with the big boys...

Well I disagree... I say they hugely gave up. Even the NSX-R, I think was way too little way too late and I dont think it hangs that well at all. Plus its long gone and was left out of their *biggest* market (the US)

I think even with the NA2, as much as I love it, Honda had given up. I love my NA2, but it should have been a massive change. Like 320HP, lighter, tighter, etc for same money. Instead they gave a weak response that allowed Ferrari to now win every showdown instead of lose (like with the F348)

By the time they deployed the facelifted R it was a sort of oddball curiosity (oh, lets test THIS weird thing that no one buys!) and I think most pros saw it as a respectable and interesting experiment, but by 02 Ferrari was into the F360. The R doesnt do well against an 02 F360 challenge car or 02 GT2, etc. One can say "yeah but what about price?", but I dont think thats really material (esp considering the R was barely available anywhere and for the extra money in the 360 or 911 you get the Ferrari or Porsche brand)

Well, yeah, perhaps Honda did give up, but I still think the NSX-R was a noble effort. Completely agree it sucks it never came here, though.

Hate to be a bench racer, but the NSX-R did quite well against the cars you mentioned on the Nurburgring...

7:46 Porsche GT2
7:56 Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale f1
7:56.773 NSX-R NA2

does fine against the F-car, but neither one can touch the GT2.

3k hr spyder weighs more than a ton. And the chassis flexed a lot.

I browsed through this entire thread, ive owned 3 FD's and a NSX which I currentley have. And have driven many supras, all different power levels. All cars have one thing in common that most of us agree with, which is they are timeless body designs.

However each car offer different packages, the supra has the power, the rx7 has supieor handling, and the nsx offers a bit of both imo.

With that being said, a boosted NSX up agaisnt a supra as far as feel gos.... I think the NSX feels more stable esp under high speeds. Very similar to a full built rotary or even a 20b.

Supra and the NSX are apple and oranges, the RX7 would be a better comaparison . However I would choose the NSX, mainly for reliability reasons. Just my 2 cents

I got a ride in an FD RX7 with cam'd LS6 down here in Corpus Christi the other day. Fastest I've ever been in a car in my life.

Having said that, the interior felt pretty cramped, even with no sunroof, and the interior materials were...lacking, even with the 94 interior in a 93. Part of the room issue had to do with the transmission tunnel being so high in the cabin, but that's to be expected with front engine, rear wheel drive. It drove beautifully, and the gauge display was unique if not practical.

You just really get spoiled by how nice the NSX is. At the time, yeah it was more expensive than some of its other Japanese counterparts, but they really put the money where it counts. So many people pass over the NSX's interior as being archaic, but go look at a 1991 Accord's interior, or even a Ferrari 355's interior, and compare.
