What is APPLE planning?

Re: Should 'specs' really be touted as much as they are amongst the Android community

My iPhone 4 was feeling VERY VERY sluggish before I sold it (day before the iP5 announcement) and my iPad (+retina display) is NOTICEABLY faster.

Oh and the A6 is said to be twice as fast.

Because with electronics like these, added snappiness is always welcome.

My iPad feels way better than my iphone4. And moving into the future, it can handle way more powerful apps.

I'm very confused. I thought that the point was that "specs" should not be touted, and that doing so by fandroids was chest beating. But yet trumpeting the increase in performance from A5>A5X>A6 by Apple is just peachy.

Please clarify. I think I want to consider processors and clock speeds, but I want to make sure I'm doing it in the correct way.

It's mostly the fact that oftentimes Android fans spout out specs, like how many cores their phone has, or how many ghz it is operating at, and use them as reasons as to why their phone is better than the iPhone.

Yet performance benchmarks show that a fewer cored, slower clocked processor found in the iPhone can keep up with (and even beat) the SIII's processor. I'd venture to guess that the Apple A6 chip is also very energy efficient compared to the chip found in the SIII.

I'm really looking forward to the phone, as I'm sure real world performance is going to be excellent.

I find Apple to underestimate their real world performance numbers like battery life, while Android manufacturers seem to overestimate them.

It's kind of like using engine displacement to measure car performance. A bigger engine usually, but not always, translates to more horsepower. But even if it does, if the car in question weighs a thousands pounds more than a competing car, the lower displacement car may yet be faster.

Cores and clock speeds are just data points in putting together the total performance picture. And yes, the A6 does appear to be a very good chip. But I wouldn't beat my chest over it.

I've found that Apple fans do the same, but only when it favors them (such as when the 4s was released and there wasn't much to brag about except improved guts).

Furthermore, bragging about the benchmark is about the same as bragging about # of cores, RAM, etc. when it comes to touting.

as for battery life, the main advantage Android has is that you can swap out your battery on many devices (except for a few devices like the Razr) and have an endless supply of charge by keeping one spare and one external charger. And if you look at the Razr Maxx HD, it will pack a 3300mah battery which will outperform any iphone.

Anyways, I have the new 5 on order and I am looking forward to it. I could care less about its benchmark, but it's nice ot know that it is high.

All I care about is the UI, and I am expecting Apple to deliver no matter how old and stale the OS and design is.

No more switching gmail accounts to check all my mail, and no more flashing all these diff ROMS.

I'm personally using the benchmark as evidence that the new iPhone will be awesome, not as a metric to put down the SIII, which I hear is a great phone in its own right.

And, in my life I seek simplicity, so I'd rather not have to manage my battery usage and swap out batteries. With my current usage of my iphone4, I can go for 2 days without plugging it in. I hope I can do the same with the 5.

I want my phone to work well out of the box, no battery management, no app management, just solid reliability for browsing, texting, using apps, and good clarity for my occasional phone call. The iPhone does all of these things extremely well, and the 5 is the best iteration. I am excited.

Good for you. Self affirmation is often useful.

You must not use your phone very much to get 2 days without charging. It sounds like you are already managing your battery usage.

I doubt iphone5 will have better battery life, but who knows. I hope it does.

I'd say I'm a moderate user, and I'm oftentimes connected to wifi, so I don't think my battery consumption is that out of the ordinary. I don't manage my battery usage because although I CAN get 2 days out of it, I usually plug it in every night.

If we were beating our chests, we would have boasted about the 1ghz dual core processor in the iP5 when it was announced but you never saw that.

Spot on.

Same could be said for camera quality (iP4S known to take better pictures than many higher megapixel camera phones) and battery life.

And yes, the A6 does appear to be a very good chip. But I wouldn't beat my chest over it.
No one does. This is a response to how the Android community uses 'specs' as a measuring stick when comparing their phones to iPhones or other smartphones.

Android = American Muscle car
iPhone = NSX

Get it?
Good for you. Self affirmation is often useful.
 So an individual can only be happy with their purchase when it matches the purchase you made?

When did I say that?

And I actually have an iphone 5 on order, so I am not sure what your point is. Maybe try reading before jumping to conclusions.

So why are some of you SO mad/angry/upset/disappointed again???

Re: Should 'specs' really be touted as much as they are amongst the Android community

Um, no. NSX is a unique, hand crafted exotic from Japan. iPhone is a mass produced phone from china.

There is no phone equal to the NSX.

I don't see that. I see a lot of strong opinions, which as I've mentioned is on the whole good for the phone industry.

There are some people in this thread that are here to troll. That doesn't help anyone. I don't troll the Google nor MS thread, wish others would give the same respect to this one.

I won't deny that I haven't done a bit of trolling myself, but Apple users are so easy to wind up it's hard to resist sometimes.

That said, if I level a valid criticism I expect it to be treated as such, and not just rantings from a fandroid/hater.

And now for your amusement: Fox News seems to think that the iPhone 5 will include a laser keyboard and holographic display:

:rolleyes::rolleyes: Yes I am here to troll because I've hated on the NSX since the day I registered. Dude you troll EVERYONE on this forum about one subject or another. You love to hate Apple, yet still buy their products. Bi-polar much?

Keep confusing others with your misinformation (4G is LTE - NetViper), you're on my ignore list from now on.

Gee, that's too bad. I will miss all the contributions about the NSX you make on this forum.

C'mon, don't block each other. I for one enjoy the back and forth. This and the delete thread are gold.

Starting the iOS 6 download... 3 hours to go. yikes!

*update. Now 4 hours.
