Or restaurant entrepreneurs, or airline startup execs, or...

Actually, I was refering to those indivuals that play the lottery and win five or ten million dollars and are broke a few years later.

Well I would like to think restaurant entrepreneurs understand that 90% of restaurants fail within the first five years. Sadly, I am also sure that they don't.

Regarding airline startups, PM me regarding leasing some jets.

Also, did you go to NC? Regardless, PM me about Pinehurst, the course(s) you played and the numbers.

If I won $10 million in the lottery, I'd spend $3 million on a couple properties nothing too crazy, one with a private race track, a handful of cars and motorcycles, then have an investment specialist handle the other $7 million in a safe manner to where the returns would cover all costs for the rest of my life.

Would that be possible?

As for the American dream. They already had the American Dream by getting the $450k and $250k in other monies when they used to live in a shit hole. What they did was get greedy and it bit them in the ass. When you have nothing and am granted a HUGE gift like they did to forever change their lives and their family's life, you make damn sure you don't go back to living in a shitter.

I was never rich nor born into wealth of any sort. I remember as a kid waiting with my mom at the church parking lot waiting to get our gubment block of cheese, and cans of veggies and big cans of meat that showed a picture of a pig or cow on a plain white label. We never squandered anything away whenever we got anything to this day. This was over 23 years ago. The only person who wastes cash would be me, who bought the nsx and motorcycles and bikes, etc.

so they get a big brand new house(say $550,000) for free, a free 250,000 dollars, and then take out a 450,000 dollar loan for a "construction buisness" my god i would like to see where every single dollar went,

i cant imagine they were givin a gift of that magnitude and managed to screw it all away, if your a man with a family you have alot more responsibilities than squandering all that money away.

like the show said "get a financial planner" AND LISTEN TO THEM

the story isnt sad, its pitiful:rolleyes:

Agreed...the super lottery winners that blow it all on blow (and all) are true losers. Perhaps that's what this American Family sweepstakes winner did too...who knows? Not worth fretting about. We all know know losers. We can all spot 'em. We can all make claims about how they are foolish due to this or that. Such has been the case since the beginning of time -- hardly newsworthy unless you actually gave $$ to this particular family.

I own part of a major fractional jet ownership company. I'll sell if you want in.:frown: This is an industry that flies 600 mph, and is sinking at the speed of an 80 year old Titanic. ugh.

Didn't play #2 but did get my crooked swing all sorted out, so I'm as happy as a clam. Got any tips on playing St. Andrews Old Course without having a handicap or home membership? If I leave the UK w/o playing there my dad will kill me.

If I won $10 million in the lottery

if i won ten million i would buy a nice 5-600k dollar house with say 4 car garage, large back yard, spend 50-60k on a large shop out back, furnish the house, start with a couple nice cars(maybe 200-250k worth) invest some money, live off interest of the other money, and fund the rest of the car projects with money i make

You're right David. See how far you've come and how fortunate you are compared to most people.

Next angle to hit the wires IMO is the loan officer who sought them out because he/she saw the show on TV and spotted an easy target. I can't wait to see that news report.

If it does happen you can bet the ranch they will bury the person to set an example.

Id love to work but then i lose benefits, which means it better be worth the pain, plus I can still afford my home, but i decided to try and sell it so i could be closer to my son. If it doesent sell oh well. Id rather have a crapy credit score and be a few hours away from my son than to live 2 states away and wait 5 years for my house to sell.

Or restaurant entrepreneurs, or airline startup execs, or...

Airline Execs loose everyone else's money, trash the employee's retirements, force employees to take 50% pay cuts, and then sell the fuel hedges to buy an insurance program to protect the Top Execs pensions, file for BK and then walk away with $XX,000,000 (yes, millions) and free 1st class, "must ride" air travel for life.

Leo Mullin - Delta <-- Harvard MBA Prick!
Robert Crandal - American <- Prick! (bragged on 60 min about cutting a Security Guard to 3 days a week - randomly to save $ and then replacing him with a Guard Dog, then only bringing the dog in 3 days a week to save more $)
Don Carty - American <-- Triple Prick
Don Carty - SkyBus (defunct CMH startup)
Bill Compton - TWA <-- former line pilot, turned greedy, backstabbing Rat
Carl Ican - TWA <--- Capitalistic, "give me mine" and I'll sell off the pieces Prick!
Frank Lorenzo - Eastern <--- King of Pricks!
Frank Lorenzo - Continental
Stephen Wolf - UAL <--- Dumb Prick
Stephen Wolf - US Air (double diped and F'd two airlines)
Jim Goodwin - UAL <--- Meant well, but was over his head. Walked away with $millions for giving it a shot.

Every single one of these CEOs trashed an airline or more than one, and then walked away with $ millions.

I just don't get how someone could be given a $450K home and use it as collateral for a business. Its $450k sitting there "free" and its your home!!!

I know the idea can sometimes work but if you don't have the money then why are you doing it. People just don't save anymore or never have if you think about it.

If I were given a home such as this palatial one I'd be happy stuffing groceries into a Walmart bag or even working at some bicycle shop etc.

Sad story this is....

85% of people are retarded, live paycheck to paycheck and are lazy. The other 15% work hard, learn how to NOT live in a 400k home and make 60k a year and save. Too many people care what others think about them "House, car, clothes". If you don't give a shit with others think, do what you want to do not what everyone else does and has failed at then you will be sucessfull. Most people want security but working for someone else is the least secure you can be.

yes sir youre totally right. i agree with you 100%

and you have found the key to happiness. work your ass off when your young, buy a nice house, get it paid off, relax.

It takes more than money to make a business work.

Steve, the house is going up for auction on August 5th. Why don't you try to buy it on the cheap?

I bet it won't go "cheap" It will most likely sell for a bit under what it is worth.

Hey if they want to just rid themselves of the hassle I got a check for a 100k with their name on it.

Best deal I ever got at auction was a house that had 400k owed on it and I was one of a few on the court house steps. Bought it for 75k did 30k in work sold it for 425k. BAM!!!

I think I remember watching the episode now that I run through my head. I do remember something about the dad's construction venture and I believe they even hooked his dumb ass up with things too, like tools and a truck maybe. I might be wrong but I'm sure they hooked him up as a bonus.

They do go way over the top with these homes. I don't know if anyone has ever seen it here but once on telemundo (no clue why I was even watching telemundo), I saw a broadcast of Extreme Makeover Home Edition, THEIR version. They'd go into these homes and all they would do was repaint, redecorate, new furniture and fix whatever problem they had. No massive demolition and rebuilding. Just helping out the people who needed help in a reasonable manner.

That's right. If your cardboard box is all wet and saggy we can hook you up with a dogloo.

I'll be interested to see what type of controls, if any, the TV show will place on those given a home.

a very good point, and not limited to the airline industry :frown:

I remember reading an article about this show after the cameras and crew have left. Some of them are left holding the bag on the things done to their homes. One example I remember is one where the master bath was made to look like a human car wash. It looked really cool and the idea was sure there, but it never worked. For the camera, they blew water through the plumping with an air compressor, but never got it working. The home owner had to hire a plumber to come and fix it. Not a big deal, but still.....
