R8 owner looking to buy NA1- will I be disappointed?

I usually agree with @Old Guy, probably because I'm old, but I mostly only drive mine with the roof off, unless it starts to rain, and I think the roof is no issue at all! Ignore the youtube videos of people making it look like a drawn out process.

Windows down 2-3", pull driver roof-release handle, get out, open hatch/cover. Walk over to passenger side & pull the passenger roof handle. Lift up the roof and carry back it to the driver's side (this will spin the roof 180 degrees so it is oriented correctly to store) and place it in the hatch cover. Close the hatch and hop back in the driver's seat. I've literally done it at a stoplight multiple times.

Agree parts availability is becoming an issue though.

Lots of good advice here. As far as the roof, I'm more in line with Wild Turkey than Old Guy. My car is a "low mile" garage queen (sunny days only). The roof is always stored in the clamshell. I have a lightweight aftermarket cover that unfolds and has suction cups that stick to the door windows when parked, that keeps the sun and dirt out of the interior. It is called a Carbrella. I'm not to sure they are still available, but I expect someone could reproduce it if they had one to go by quite easily. I'd be lost without it, as it goes on in a minute, unlike the stored roof panel.

I have a targa, and mostly drive with the roof on. On perfect days, though, targa off! It helps that I have a NC Auto (Stephen Deisinger) carbon fiber roof panel replacement, so that makes the roof removal that much easier. It’s really not hard at all, even stock.

Roof on, roof off, I'm OK with that. Roof off can be a treat during a cruise on those pleasant fall days.

Merely pointing out that for me the lack of a Targa would not be a reason to exclude an early model NSX without a Targa and that the Targa experience is not quite the seamless experience that the OP currently experiences with the R8 Spyder.

It doesn't matter what car you own or owned, you’ll never regret owning a na1 or na2, basically any nsx. This applies to s2000 as well, actually. Drive them, and you will see what I mean.

Love your attitude about making it your own, btw. (y)
