New 2004 nsx build

How are you doing with this project? Looks like about 4 months is coming up.
If I follow this right, you have torn down the car and are getting the engine compartment and rear inner structure painted.

Is your strategy to next transfer all the other parts; motor, drive train, hoses, wire harnesses from the donor vehicle?

yes, after the 2004 is back in my hands, I will transfer most of the parts from the 2002.

I do not need the tranny and engine from the donor car only the plastic parts, hoses, wire harness etc. etc. that was in the engine bay

the original motor and tranny were not effected by the fire.
after the original engine and tranny are put back into the car, I will move everything i need from the car I purchased and drove from California to tampa. I have every piece I need to complete this car.

I have all body panels, trunk lid, spoiler, quarter panels, just purchased brand new rear tail lights from Mark at Pride, and just picked up the final piece the center tail light off e-bay.

I have been waiting on the car to return from the paint shop for awhile now. called them yesterday and it may be ready next week.
then this thread will be pounded with new pics. then after I get the 2004 back I will start parting out the 2002.

dont worry I have not forgot about this thread. or my build or the people requesting parts.

The pics you posted looked like the motor was .

it looked worse than it was. the intake manifold looks bad but I am gonna use the one off the 2002.

the original owner said that when he smelled smoke he turned the car off. so nothing was sucked into the cylinders.

once the engine was removed it was compression tested and passed.

shit I touched jumper cables to the original starter and it turned over.

the valve covers paint was gone but all the seals/gaskets were fine.

the whole side of the car that was burning was the only damage.

everything that was plastic melted hoses etc. turned to dust in my hands.
its all cosmetics.

the engine before i put it back in will be fully cleaned and all bolts replaced with new ones. this car will look better than it did off the showroom floor. trust me.

LOL.I know what you mean but that line sounds like a used car salesman, LOL. "Trust me".Lol. JK

Once you get it running you won't likely see any problems right off the bat.
It will start right up and run great but don't be surprised if in time you start to have problems.
You could see gasket, seal issues and other issues related to this over time.. Flood and fire cars' mechanicals, can be a real nightmare, sometimes having the oddest problems and failures relentlessly. Every experienced re-builder has tried at least one with some having the car haunt them.
You're smart to have a full drive train as a spare. Keep it around for a while.
I hope your optimism pans out and everything turns out the way you want.:wink: I love hearing about someone winning on deals like this.

I hate to agree with you but I must since I used to buy and sell salvage title cars. Every thing seems cool on the maiden voyage and then you will get the dreaded check engine light, electrical malfunction, noises etc.

yeah i hear ya, all the gaskets are gonna be changed etc. and I do have the spare engine and tranny to flop in there if i need to.

I am so not worried about any issues, electrical or otherwise.

I have a perfectly running 2002 spare NSX. to make sure any issues are taken care of.

you guys wanted pics so here they are. should be done by next week then the work begins. enjoy

btw... at least you don't have to worry about surface rust!!! lol

Bare aluminum begins to oxidize(aluminum version of rust) as soon as it hits the air. Immediately! It just doesn't turn orange like steel does. LOL!
If not thoroughly cleaned of this oxidation before refinishing, ie., cleaned with a stainless steel brush, wiped with isopropyl alcohol and immediately primed with primer made for aluminum it will come to bear down the road. LOL.
The finish will eventually start get little bubbles and such.
Trust me, LOL, I'm sure Shawn and the folks doing the paint work all know this. LOL.
It's academic. Lol.

Shawn was the enngine bay grinded down or was it sand blasted. anyways you mentioned it was going to be blasted down. Im just wondering maybe sandblasting aluminum isn't a good idea?

no they sanded it down by hand/ rotor tools etc.

the rear trunk was filled in where the fire department cut the trunk.

and the engine glass hatch latch holder is new and was welded back on to the original location

Thanks Hugo

I thought of that but "its not OEM its not OEM" I dont wanna hear it from others, I want it to look like it did when New.

if the next owner wants to do that then they can.

you gotta be shitting me... They did all that for $1100? Is that the homey deal or what?

I think Shawn removed all the engine parts (the hard parts )

The suspension is sitting next to the car in the pic so they had to R&I that so they could roll it in and out.

So they R&I the suspension, weld and repair the rear body panel, completely prep the panels panels for primer (wash, clean, degrease, sand ,inside, out, top and bottom of both trunk and engine compartments),taped, papered, primed ,sealed, painted, and cleared, a easy 2-3 quarts of materials all for $1100.
That's the most amazing part of this resto yet!
Incredible price!

Mingus,
yeah they are bad ass check out their other work,

www.extrememotorcars.com they do ferrari's, Lambo, high end cars.

they can completely restore any car to factory condition

you should see the showroom floor.

no i think the most amazing part of this build is I flew to cali and drove my parts car back to tampa haha
I will never ever ever do that again. well maybe.
