Just wondering but, everytime I drive my NSX, I get run off the road like 4 times a day by people in SUV's who either just cant see me right next to them becuase that would involve them actually looking to see if there is someone next to them, or they just assume since I am the smaller car its my job to get out of their way! I know the nsx is really low to the ground, but damn! this is getting rediculous! I get afraid everytime I get near an SUV...does this happen to anyone else when they drive their X? (oh, and when they are trying to merge into me and I lay on the horn, they always flick me off like its my fault, when I have been in my lane for like 10 minutes!)
sorry...just ranting

I got that when my car was black. Kinda hard for them to see especially at night. That's why I got my car painted blue plus its easier to hide dirt then it was when the car was black.

yeah...mine is black, I guess that could be why...but it usually happens to me during the day :o(

That very thing happend to me this morning. Heck, I was just trying to keep from getting smashed and the guy started going berzerk.

One thing that is much diffrent in the US versus other coutries that I have visited; Someone using the horn in another country is viewed, for the most part, as being courteous. Most of the time the person honking the horn is trying to get their attention to avoid a problem. Here is the US people go wild, as if you're insulting their mother or assume you are some sort of road rage nut just for using the horn. Probably because most people use the horn as a sign of being pissed off instead of using it to avoid a problem.

yeah, I dont get it...the only time I ever use my horn is if someone is really close to hitting me, and its their fault....and they always freak out, maybe I should move to another country where people arent so crazy! I should move to Australia!

Oh, I have been known to use the horn on certain occasions other than avoiding a collision; Like when someone is sitting stopped at a green light talking on a cell phone and looking into their vanity mirror.

For sure not in Western Europe people get very upset if you honk them and it should be done only when there is *real* danger.

I imagine it could happen in middle east, they are quite weird when driving! :)

If they are all in the rear view mirror, how can you get into a multi-car accident? Unless open space turns you into a spastic driver

My motto (positive or negative), if you leave a car length between you and the person in front, that's too much room. You invited the accident because you gave the other driver HOPE that they can get into that space. True or false: A driver gets your attention if they are all over the road or if they are weaving in and out of traffic. I resort to being visible to motorists and highway patrol alike. I'd risk the ticket EVERY AND I MEAN EVERY time if that'll keep people's head on a swivel and their car out of my lane. I can afford a driving ticket and traffic school instead of a SALVAGE TITLE or BENT FRAME. Ticket..... accident.... NO BRAINER to me.This is MY opinion. It works for me. I'm not telling ANYONE out there to do this. Go ahead, piss people off, but the SUV won't be rolling into your lane. Someone's gonna mention road rage so I think I'll beat you to it.

You are not alone... Now although this has not happened to me in my NSX (my first NSX was Black so it is not the colour BTW). My daily driver is a '89 Prelude in white. I have had one major accident and many many near misses with f*ucking SUV drivers changing lanes into me!

Now the Prelude is a least a 6" taller than my NSX and therefore should be more visible... But apparently SUV drivers's have a massive blindspot where they have trouble seeing normal cars in the rear passenger side.

These days, I treat ALL SUV's like Semi-trailer learner drivers!... I assume they have not seen me and becasuse they are inherently selfish pigs on the road, I expect them to try and hit me!

In my NSX... I go back to the the tactics I used to keep alive on my motorbike for so many years...

1. Drive with my (fog lights in the NSX) lights on... Day time included
2. Try to at all times to keep ahead of the traffic...

I drive my NSX like my motorcycle and assume no one sees me. I never follow next to a car for any period of time, I either speed up or slow down enough so that I am in front or behind them where they can see me. I also get out of the way of anyone that wants to tail gate me, which is usually when I am stuck behind other traffic and leave decent following room. I know my motorcycle and NSX can stop a lot better then these big SUV's... I don't really want them plowing into me.

Sometimes my methods would fail, as they would attempt to change lanes as I was passing by them. I remember an episode where an SUV almost took me out on the 215. It was a guy on a cell phone. I take it a lot more personal on the motorcycle, I mean they could kill me for being stupid. I ended up driving in front of this person for a few miles while looking back and motioning to my eyes then to the lane beside me. I also gave him the bird.

That has happened to me so many times I couldnt count.
Now when I drive my Nsx I def. change my driving habits.I assume that every SUV will cut me off. I always try to stay in front of them or behind them enough that I can hit the brakes. Its a shame but there are so many bad drivers out there.

Hell, it happens to me when I'm driving a freaking fullsize van THAT'S BRIGHT WHITE. The past two days I've had at least one tailgater and one almost-merge into my lane driver. DRIVES ME NUTS. I avoid the usual hand signals for the following reason.

My junior year of highschool an acquaintance of mine was driving home after school, got cut off, honked his horn and flipped the bird. The other drive reached over to the floor of the passenger's seat, grabbed a sawed-off shotgun and opened fire. Since then, I've been a lot more cautious. It just doesn't benefit anyone.

Driving the NSX on public roads is a rather defensive experience more than anything.

On the above note I've seen SUV's swerve across several lanes as a knee-jerk reaction after they have tried to come over on someone merging right from say from the #3 to the #2 lane. Not only do they often not check their blind spot, but to compound the sequence of mistakes further they will merge as fast as possible giving others no time to react. It totally bugs me out almost as having them 'sit' their 5000lb lifted rig off the bumper of my 2000lb miata at 75mph, or getting 'passed' at rail road crossings by impatient truckers. Horns just aggrevate the situation frequently.

Frankly, I can do with all of that... actually my single greatest fear is some drunk guy or meth head in an F150 or SUV just drifting right into my on-coming lane at 75mph (happens all the time out here 5-10 times a month easy) on our undivided highways and reducing me in my 2800 lb composite and aluminum sports to 300 yards of yellow and black debris.

All I can offer is you need assume automatically that every other unknown driver you see is another inexperienced motorist that is not paying any attention and has never maintained their vehicle.. and be aware and treat vehicles that are larger than you- albeit SUV's or commercial rigs with the respect they deserve, as in the event of an accident physics is not your friend.

I dont really have that problem, then again I dont drive next to SUV's...I pass em. Sounds like you need to speed up a lil  , or at least when near them. They dont scare me, if they piss me off I swerve at them, cut them off, or break check em to piss the off back  I drive my NSX even more agressivly than I do my trucks, and they always get out of my way....someday when they dont, well they'll get hit lol.
And honk like a crazy SOB at them to get there attention, I do it everytime someone changes lanes in front of me without signaling.....then I cut em them back off to return the jester......followed by a break check if Im really mad

And last but not least, carry a paintball gun behind your seat  , they cut you off you pepper their SUV in mutilpe pretty colors

I've considered one of those. However, do you get any back-spray of paint when you do that? Of course, this question only applies if you have actually let loose on a close-by offender....

I would try to stay away from people when I am on the road. The only time I am next to someone is when I pass. As mentioned above, you are low and small. SUV will have a hard time seeing you..........so try to stay away. I also drive an SUV and I fine myself in that situation at time.

I am glad you don't live in my neighborhood, and I don't even own a SUV.

Great sarcasm. Seems like some people need to lighten up!!!

Remember driving is defensive not offensive. No matter what your driving style is you have to look out for yourself and not drive with the " I have the right of way frame of mind "

I had nearly the same thing happen just last week!!

Was with a couple buddies out on the ranch - really rural area. Out of nowhere, this quail comes darting out in front of us and opened fire with a 28 gauge! Peppered my friend square in the face, but he'll be okay it seems. So watch out for quail in addition to angry SUV drivers.

<sigh> As if I don't hear about this story enough at work, it has to invade the forums I frequent too.

Its not just you... it happened alot to me when i first got my nsx and it occassionally still does happen. It was even worse when i owned my 300Z and its not just suv's either.. i've had it happen with *cars* not paying attention. Now I just try to stay out of blind spots.

i believe that it is totally irresponsible for fullsize truck and SUV manufacturers to not give a effective way to see objects behind these urban assault vehicles.
it is very easy to back up whilst looking in the rear view mirrors and run over a small child or a BMW3 series in this big vehicles because you cant see jack.

now back on topic alot of urban assault vehicle drivers are totally insane,
and change lanes and turn as if they were driving a formula 1 car...
i'm surprised more SUV's dont roll over on the highways....

grrrrr

Allow me to illustrate the problem.

My car isn't even lowered and that Excursion isn't the biggest SUV on the road but my roof is below their window. I drive this car even more defensively than I did my motorcycle. My car is a daily driver so yeah, I've dodged a few.
