How Fast is Fast for an NSX?

I'm think pretty seriously about building or upgrading an NSX to tru super performance status. There resonably priced, and I really do like the design of the car.

I have several honest no B.S. questions though. 1) How fast has anyone in this group successfully driven there cars? Total Top Speed? At that speed was the car very stable, or scary? This isn't a pun, I'm asking an honest question.

Does anyone have an actual 190MPH + Car? If so ho did you do it, new engine?
Upgraded existing engine? Super Charger?

I'm really interested. I have a really fast V8 Powered 914. It will probably beat just about anything I've ever seen form 0-130, but becomes almost un controllable beyound that. Like I've said in another group, I'm thinking about applying this same approch to an NSX. Has anyone ever put a V8 in an NSX?

Ok, I made a mistake about the flat 12 F-40 thing. those of you that have never made a mistake before, you have my personal permission to just rail away. I guss I deserve it.

What I'm thinking about, is to try to fit a New Z06 engine into an NSX, Can anyone give any insight as to if it is possible to do something like that. Or is it even necessary, is the stock engine capable of bring upgraded to that level fo performance?

OK you can flame away, or give me some real insight about the car. Thanks

Define a really fast V8 powered 914.

Because my buddy has an Eagle Talon that will rape anything I've ever seen from 0-130.

I call for pics of this Porsche. Otherwise, honestly, you sound like a kid (and this coming from a 22 year old) asking stupid questions.

Ferrari afficiandos don't screw up stuff about the F40. Everybody knows its a TT V8.

What level of performance are you trying to reach? Ultimate top speed, or a balanced machine?

my NSX max's out at 187 everynight coming back home from daily grind.
i wish i can go faster and cut down my commute time.
my commute is about 18 minutes from long beach to newport back and forth.

motor is stock, no modifications.

as far as the Z06 motor.
i think you should do it. someone has to be the front-runner to do it.
you can think and talk about it all you want until your blue in the face and everyone hating you for being a big talker and never getting it done.
do it, and get it done.

you can build an NSX with the Honda motor to have just under 400HP to the wheels with an investment of approx 15k with the addition of a supercharger (9psi) and some engine management...you can get approx 340HP with an investment of 10k or so with supercharger (6psi) and less substantial engine management. this is all based of the Comptech supercharger set up.

there are other options the like the Science of speed 3.8L engine upgrade

Or turbo set ups and there is a rumor about a new supercharger from Dali racing but few have seen it in action yet.

at 350hp and approx 2800 lbs the NSX is plenty fast enough for me anyway.

Not sure why you would need or want to go 190mph but an NSX will take you up well beyond 130 with great stability.

I have personaly driven my completely stock NSX 170mph (not on public streets), changing the motor for a v8 would be a waste of time and money in my opinion.

hope this helps, JZ

I don't see a need for going 190mph. But it is possible for the car, most likely will need to go do a turbo setup to go that fast. The V6 motor is good enough to go that fast, just need to build it and gear it properly. You should talk to Jon Martin or any specialist on the car for insight. Obviously you will need some aero parts to help with the drag coefficient of the car.

I have had my mini bike, 5hp Briggs and Straton, up to 271mph. super fast bike. I can jump it 35 feet in the air, and it has only 1 inch of travel on the swing arm. The landing is a bitch but I sure look cool doing those big jumps.
BTW....I am sure my dad can beat up your dad no problem.

Ya know Eagle, I made a mistake. If I am a kid, I'm a 50 year old kid. Frankly if you don't believe who I am, then have it your way. I've never clocked my 914, I'm not a measuring kind of person. It does real wheeleys, and hooks up and takes off like a shot. quickes car I've ever seen off the line, anywhere. I hope that summarizes it to you. Oh yea, i thought I had a 400 in it for about 5 years.
I just recently discovered it really has a 327, ouch. No you can bag on that too.

I want to use a car that has good high speed stability for my next project car. I didn't build my 914, I bought it on Ebay. The guy that sold it to me said it was a 400 small block. Now I can safely say it is a 327. My mech noticed it because he said it revs to fast to be a 400 small block. Believe it of not it's hard to tell, hard for me to tell. The engines look just alike from the outside.

Ya know Edid, I like the quickness the power gives, not so much the top end. The 914 has been a bit of a dissapointment in the top end, Above 130 the rear end actually becomes pretty darn unpredictable. Like I said previously life threatening. I've talked with renigade, as well as others about moding the rear suspension, they just said it comes with the car, they don't recommend pushing it any harder.

I don't really like it above 130 to much, that is really fast enough for me. But on random occasions I might push to 150. I guess I just like the extra head room. If it's stable at 190, it should be a piece of cake at 150.

I try to take a few pic's the next time I'm over at my hanger. It's really not much to look at, outwardly it looks like your typical puke green 914, with slightly fatter wheels and tires. There is a bunch of these cars out there, renigade sells the conversion kit for about 12K. They also sell totally trick engines for them for about 3500. I use to think my car wasn't a renigade conversion, but as before have also recently discovered it does have one of there engines, and was built with there parts.

the NSX should only need about 330rwhp for 190MPH or 400rwhp to do 200MPH. If you want top speed, I don't think there is another car out there that has the NSX's combination of low Cd and small frontal area.

hummm where do i start...

ok....

since u mention u have a HANGER... why not just use your jet to get there since you sound like you have the NEED for SPEED..

last but not the least:
now the pix. we want to see it or

better yet: take a pix next to your Black 1990 348TS and Green 914 in the hanger and hold a sign that ses"My 348 & 914 rules"

Ya know I like your post. I don't have a jet, I use to have a helicopter though. Sold it 2 weeks ago. Looking for my next one now, I'm hoping to get a Hughes 500, I sold a Hughes 300C, it had a piston engine.

I just like special cars. The performance makes the special for me. You know I can't promise a pic of the 914, it's for sale. I will post a pick of me, my 348, and my new NSX, (the 914's replacement)
I won't be in the picture though. Sorry I don't like cameras.

ok ok it' maybe too much work to drive both cars in the hanger.
how about atleast one of the car in the hanger and hold up a sign that "NSX ROCKS @ 190mph"

It's from a different thread, ages ago, on a different (now defunct) forum...

fwiw, I could take pictures of my F1 V10 swap next time I am over at my hanger, but the hoverjet is having problems, and it's hard to reach the castle location by road. If someone would buy my Zee's exhaust I could swing the cost of a new flux capacitor, and fix the hoverjet.
