F1 2008 Megathread

Re: A mid week teaser

Wow, what a pretty boring race for the most part. Button, what happened?????!!! What was Barichello penalized in qual for? He started in last place.

Gear box change.

Honda has officially thrown in the towell this year. It seems to me that they should pull out all together and save the money that they are wasting on this year. Give BE yet something else to needlessly bitch about.

On the bright side, FORMULA 1 IS RETURNING TO THE STATES!!!!!!

Re: A mid week teaser

I have had a T-shirt idea for a while, and wanted to see who on here is smart enought to get it. The shirt would have a picture showing a head on shot of this years Honda F1 car and below the picture would say "108 = BIT"

F1 inside joke, so to speak.

Toyota is doing good, they have a better chance of winning a F1 race to go with the launch of their LA-F than the launch of the next NSX which will take alot longer if their waiting to win a F1 race first.

Re: A nice change

Toyota is doing good
Yeah, a tip of the hat to Yarno for holding off some better cars. He earned that podium. And Glock not far back either. Toyota found a bucket of speed somewhere. (They obviously stole what little Honda had  )

It gave us something to think about besides......ho hum, Ferrarri running away with it and how come Kimi's car doesn't catch on fire.

Jarno did put up a good fight. I'm rooting for Kubica for WDC. I don't want Ferrari walking away with another championship. I def don't want Hambone to win it either, but with all the screw ups he's been doing, I think he's taking care of that himself. Honda, please keep scoring points, at least don't come in last place for WCC/WDC.

Re: Conspiracy buffs?

So, any comments on the penalties handed out and not handed out last Sunday? The most obvious questions:

1. Did Heikki really deserve a 5 spot penalty for blocking Webber in Q when Webber later said "Huh? someone was blocking me?"
2. Could anyone else besides Kimi or Flippy not get a meatball for having a broken piece of exhaust manifold about to fly off?
3. Did Hamo really deserve that drive thru for cutting the chicane after passing Vettel?

Just a little grist for the mill.

Sheesh, guys. I'm gone for a bit and the last post was 5 days ago. ;)

The latest rumor I've heard is that Honda is the front-runner for Caterpillar's services next year. It seems they're very heavy in recruiting him over. He'd team Button apparently as Honda's #1 driver. We'll see...

And here's the only race Caterpillar's will win this year. ;)

Oh, and quite a few teams next year will very likely not run KERS. Perhaps only BMW and Honda.

Re: did you bring us back a T-shirt?

Sheesh, guys. I'm gone for a bit and the last post was 5 days ago.
We thought you had abandoned us and gone to NASCRAP !!!

As for Nando to Honda, well, unless the '09 car design is some kind of magic and he's on the podium every race, he'll just be the scapegoat for all our frustrations.

what happened to the quick reply?

'Nando coming over to Honda may or may not help the team start winning. IMO, I think Honda needs a better car/aero package more than a new driver. Maybe if GodSenna were around, he'd make miracles happen with the current car.

Hahaha...I actually did watch the majority of the Sears Point (I still call it that) race. And I saw Joan Paula Montoya cry, bitch, moan, and then crash someone out of the race this last weekend. At least the guy's consistent.

Well, he did qualify the Renault in the top three recently and that car is just ahead of the Honda in terms of performance. If Honda obtains his services, at the very least, it'll show where the missing link is w/i the team - b/c even though I don't care for him much, I realize effort and performance is not a question with him.

Re: About damn time

37 years old. Christ, look at that face; he's almost as wrinkled as I am. And his eyes and reflexes at 37, compared to kids like Hamo and Vettel, are long gone.

Put that old dude in a hammock and let him fade away. Well the good news is that he's not as gone as Willie Nelson, who recently said: "I've outlived my dick."

Is'nt DTM the F1 retirement track:wink: He can now sit behind the reception desk at his hotel,,,,is that your dog?

Wow, great result for Honda. Rubens drove the wheels off to a third place and podium finish. Almost had second as well. SPEED will re-air on Wednesday for those who missed it.

Congrats Rubens! Congrats Honda!

Finally, a f&$@*ing Podium finish!! and no one else is posting about this?!!
Congrats Rubens Barichello!!!
wavetowel2.gif
well deserved finish for him and for Honda. If it weren't for that refueling problem, we could have take 2nd.

I would have expected alot more post from you guys.

Re: They can't make this stuff up

What a crazy race...........urr, season!!! How many different head scratching WTF's can you count in that race, er how about the entire weekend? And guys are going from hero to zero and back in again in a blink of an eye. Jarno on the podium then can't get into P2? Kovi on pole, Webber along side for starters. Hamo has been nowhere for some races then just dominates in special conditions like Monaco and today. Flippy kicks butt week in week out, then looked like me racing in the rain.........what kind of set-up did they give him anyway??? Ferrari in general, as demonstrated by the Kimster, sucked but not nearly as bad as Flippy; (maybe that's just talent showing the difference.) And all those guys kept staying on intermediates when they saw Reubens flying lap after lap !!!!

That was just nuts, but even the blind squirrel (and Honda) can find one once in a while !!! Nevertheless, props to RB for having good "wet" hands.

I'm still a RB believer is he can catch a good ride. However, Honda is not committing to RB until they search the market first that is why the contract negotiation is on hold. Ruben is a proven winner even driving under MS at Ferrari, and he can do it again.

JB wise, if you observe him during the 2004 season, he had more showing than any of the new comers. In fact, if you watch the way he drove during that season, he is on par with the big shots. It is just a shame that he's never in a good team. Unlike Jean Alesi during his peak, which after the age of 30, JB is still very young and can continue to grow with Honda. He is actually not that much older than Hamilton if you think about it.

The old man still has it in him. I can see next year will be even better.

Re: F1 rota'...

What was the reason to change this year's European Grand Prix from Nurburgring, Germany to Valencia, Spain...

Contact Bernie at [email protected] for a further and more detailed explanation. IIRC, the German GP will alternate from Hockenheim to Nurburgring every other year - as well as the Japanese GP (Fuji to Suzuka).

Bernie has a penchant for not being able to leave well enough alone (ie the British GP will now be at Donnington Park instead of Silverstone). And that's probably why that Gollum look-alike is so wealthy.

I finaly finished watching the race.Nice RB wet drive, but really whomever made the decision to go to full wet tires had as much to do with 3rd place. And that was with 3 stops, while the other front runners were on 2 stoppers.Button is sucking wind, and Alonso was wilting as the race ended.

That would be Ross Brawn.

+1.

Give Brawn time. They've got good drivers, their wind tunnel is recalibrated correctly now. I think they'll run with the Bulls next year.

Re: Clarification needed

I think they'll run with the Bulls next year.
Not sure what this means:
1. Honda along with Red Bull and STR will be fighting for the front 3 rows?
2. The traditional 3 front running teams will fade big time?
3. Red Bull and STR will be coming back to lower midpack where Honda will join them?
4. a general non-racing term meaning strong and much better than DFLast?

If it's not #3 or 4, we need to hear more.............
