what did you drive in high school

You'd puke if you knew what Yenko's go for through Barret Jackson.

How bad is it now? The dealer where this car was purchased (Fargo ND) had
3 '69 Yenko Chevelles in stock that year - they were not really considered
anything special because they were so minimal in the option dept - not many
people were even interested in such a bare bones cars.

I saw a Z-16 on EBay on a "buy it now" for over $200K recently....that's insane!

How many times did you get stranded with that Alfa? I had a Lancia during college and I got stuck once for three hours on the side of the highway with a broken beam that supported the engine/tranny. The tranny was on the ground.

I had the car for 10 yrs 79-89,and it had lots of electrical gremlins most of which complicated by the behr a/c and fog lights/ removable radio-cassete.I had two accidents with it which obviously left me stranded, but only once did I have a non crunch failure again electrical -alternater.I pulled off the Pa tpk and walked up to an amish farm and slowly recieved help through word of mouth,no phones in that circumstance.

First car driven to school was a 1962 Plymouth Fury II which I borrowed from my father until I could get $450 to buy my 1968 Mercury Montego.

You'd puke if you knew what Yenko's go for through Barret Jackson.

My BIL had a Yenko Camero which he sold last year never knowing it was in fact a Yenko. It was a complete pile of crap rusted out field find he bought for 200 bucks. After fixing it up a bit he sold it to someone for 6 or 7 grand. The guy who bought it knew it was a Yenko because he ran the vin before he drove up from NJ to buy it. He told my BIL that it was a Yenko after he had the title. My BIL didn't even care. He is a deal is a deal guy and was happy the guy got the car because the guy was going to fix it up and keep it. I can't remember if my BIL sold it through ebay or autotrader. My BIL spends his weekends with his truck and car trailer just roaming the backroads looking for cars to buy. He just loves fixing them up and reselling them. He finally got his car dealers license just a couple of months ago.

There is a guy I know in Endwell,NY who has a whole warehouse full of the SUPER rare muscle cars. I really am not into muscle cars but I remember him showing me a Chevelle he had tha he claimed was worth 300k. I think it was a Z-51 convertible. It was a Z something. He said there was only a handful of them built.

Another in our group built up a red AMX... very fast car - American Motors had a lot of factory aftermarket speed parts for their cars.

Yep, I'm an AMC fan, especially the AMX, SC/Ramblers, and Rebel Machines. Few people realize that AMC engines were actually of very high quality, and pretty darn torquey to boot.

Dude, I remember the RTD! Took it to school back in 91-93. I believe they've renamed it to the metro, or something..

Here she is:

Memories...=)

I'd like to know how many people here took one of these to school?

Do you mean bus or short bus?

I had to ride the short bus because I lived on the last road in the district. There were only 3 houses on my road where I grew up. The neighbor girl was in a wheel chair and the school system bought a short bus with a lift to bus her around. It really worked out pretty good as there were only about 6 kids on the bus at any time and I was home in less than 15 minutes.

Oh so powerful Vette!!!

It was a gift from dad for having good grades!

A Chevy CHEVETTE....

ended up totalling the car making a left turn into the parking lot of Walgreens. Dark Rainy night, other driver speeding Tboned my passenger side. All for trying to buy a condom @ Walgreens:biggrin:
Let's just say the night did not turn out like we were expecting it to turn out.

My first car in HS was a 1991 BMW E30 M3.

Renault GTA. First and last French car I will ever own. At the end of it's life, I traded it to my brother for a bag of weed.

My first car was a 1987 Honda Accord LXi hatchback. I still think it wasn't a bad looking car. It was steel blue with blue interior....5spd...

Right after graduation, I got a 1992 Prelude Si....which eventually got I/H/E JG cams, cam gears, springs....and other goodies....I still miss it sometimes...

an 82 Honda Accord hatchback with 128k miles when I got it. I took it to the Acura/Honda dealer to check out these new "NSX" cars that were coming out.

1978 Oldsmobile Delta 88. That sucker was a 16 mpg tank. For me it started a lifelong hate-affair with large vehicles because it felt like dragging around 6 thousand pounds of steel and glass wherever I went.
Had plenty of room though. I smuggled 5 people off campus the last day of school in the trunk.

1st gen prelude....when i took my dad's keys...

For my 16th birthday (in '94) I got my dad's 1986 Ford Bronco. Black, red interior... had been sitting garaged for about 6 years so it was in new condition. (Gawd, I miss that truck. I actually keep an eye out now for a Bronco I can afford. I'd love to find one in good shape that I could slap some paint on and maybe redo the interior.)

Had the Bronco about 7 months when I got a '94 Ford Mustang for Christmas. White, black cloth, convertible white top, 5 speed. Had that 4 months before my dad totaled it.

Replaced it with a '95 version of the same car with leather and audio upgrades. If memory serves, that was the last year they made the 5.0 engine in the Mustang. That one took me through the rest of high school.

::: Doing my part to cement the Mustang further into 'girl car' status!:::

These are along the same lines:
