Re: What's the truth on this?
Jack asked
Webber just signed an RBR contract for next year.

What does this mean..........really?
1) Jack and I were dead wrong and everything is hunky-dory with Vettel and the team??? or
2) this is RBR damage control and they bought him off with a big bonus? or
3) Mark groveled like an old guy about to be put out to pasture? or
4) all of the above?
Help me out here guys, which is it?
I say none.
Here is what I think it means:
1. Mark is a proven winning driver with the podiums to back it up;
2. Mark is familiar with the RBR team dynamic, development cycle and car; and
3. Mark is a veteran who is less likely to make reckless decisions like the "kid".
Under these circumstances, it makes sense to keep him on. He's got at least one or two good seasons left in him. He is a known quantity who can win races. It doesn't make sense to replace him with a Kubica, for example, who while young and talented, is not a proven winner. If I were Christian Horner, I would not replace a demonstrated winner with someone else who merely has "potential" to do better.
As for the incident, I think the media has blown it up more than it deserves. I'm sure emotions were running high, but these guys are professionals and at the end of the day the team comes first. Seb tried to make a pass, thought he had more room than he did, and contacted his teammate's car in a stupid move to push by. I think it is wrong to say that Mark should have moved over- he was not some backmarker Virgin car, he was the race leader! In my mind, it was 100% Vettel's error. It was his responsibility to complete the pass or, if he could not, to fall back and try again. He did neither. Instead, he stayed put and tried to muscle his teammate to the side, like it was NASCAR or bumpercars or something. It was a reckless, dangerous move and they are lucky nobody got hurt. I know Vettel is the brilliant wunderkind and all that, but he needs to learn the difference between aggressive racing and reckless racing. I'm sure he got a talking to by both Horner and Mark.
That difference was nicely demonstrated later in the race by JB and Hamo. JB took several aggressive stabs at his teammate, completed his passes when he could and fell back when he couldn't. He ended up second, but both McLarens crossed the line. It was aggressive, clean racing and both drivers should be commended.
