should i paint the roof red...? need opinion

Re: shud i paint the roof red...? need opinion

Both looks good, my brother painted his roof red, i prefer the Type R roof reminds me of jetfighter.

Re: shud i paint the roof red...? need opinion

+1 ChongLee

How could GM have ever be so desperate as to do that. :frown:

My vote goes to keeping in Black.
Just looks better IMO.
If not for how odd a black T top looked when removed from a non black car, all NSX's would have had black tops.

(The good news - 2 tone "Bitchen Camero's" are rarley seen.
Only a couple remain on the planet due to age.)

Re: shud i paint the roof red...? need opinion

If you paint your top red, I won't talk to you again.

A black roof makes the car look lower and more of the original jet fighter design :)

Need I say more!

True story: On my drive to work every morning, i pass by this house and in the driveway is a red/black roof camaro. I cringed everytime i saw it while driving my NSX. I think this was the straw that broke my camels back about getting the top painted, LOL!!!

Re: shud i paint the roof red...? need opinion

Will painting it red reduce it's value? Yes. Changing the OEM paint color/scheme will lower resale value (or at least will reduce your potential buyer pool).

I haven't seen any evidence of that.

Our car is insured for whole value, and is thus appraised every once in a while to determine that value. It has only appreciated since the roof was painted red, and there is never a shortage of folks wanting to buy the car even though it is never for sale

Re: shud i paint the roof red...? need opinion

nice pics guys.......they all look good!
ok, what if i repaint the roof with different color of black?
i just dont like how it looks rt now. i see lots of water spots and i can't get it
to look shiny like the rest of the body.

any suggestions?

Re: shud i paint the roof red...? need opinion

Get a high end detailer to help you out.
Buff out the swirls in the clear coat & wax it.
It should come out of it.
Mine, as well as most I have seen look amazing.

Re: shud i paint the roof red...? need opinion

Red roof all the way. I hate the way black roofs look on every NSX other than a NA2 NSX-R. I actually think the red roof would help the car appreciate. Unless you look at the engine bay, there is no real visual difference between the na1 with a black roof vs a 95+ nsx. This makes the car look more like the newer more expensive ones.

Re: shud i paint the roof red...? need opinion

I ve got a better Idea. Leave the roof alone, paint the rest of the car
Black!!!!!!!

If you are keeping the black rims, then keep the roof black. O wait thats not your car, is it?

In this pic here the redtop looks taller than the black ones, keep it black.

I don't think painting the roof red actually increased your cars value did it? You are not suggesting that, I'm sure.

As far as you not seeing evidence that it lowers the value, that's ok - it's still true that it lowers the cars value. Ask most car collectors which car has more value - an original, unmodified one, or a modified one that includes a color change. Some buyers won't even look at cars that have ANY paintwork - for them, that includes the roof.

And you are right about that, I am not suggesting that the act of painting to roof increased the cars value, but I AM suggesting that it didn't hurt the value either. Appreciation has come from the refreshing with updated OEM, and aftermarket parts.

Ask most car collectors which car has more value - an original, unmodified one, or a modified one that includes a color change. Some buyers won't even look at cars that have ANY paintwork - for them, that includes the roof.

Asking a "Car Collector" about an NSX would be silly. NSX's aren't collectors items. These are great cars, but they aren't going on the block @ Barrett Jackson any time soon- they are still riding the used car auctions.

Some collectors want "patina", and they want original paint. there is a reason for this. Most classics are "restored"= painted, and sometimes that means alot of originality is lost since paint shops generally wont use enamel based paints due to health hazards. Enamel has a different "original" look. This is like the difference between powdercoat, and paint

The NSX has no such problem. The paint used for the NSX is readily available,

As for buyers who don't want cars with "paint work"- yeah, you know why? Because it is usually indicative of a collision repair. A color keyed roof isn't a collision repair.

Granted, if it isn't done well (orange peel, overspray ect.) then it could push off a buyer, but a well executed job shouldn't effect the value at all. It is up to the owner to find a reputable shop that can do the work correctly.

I'm in the same dilema. It's going to be time to paint my car soon and I don't know if I want the top orange or not. I think the black roof with tinted windows looks like a cockpit on the car. But I know it makes the car look more dated as well. What do you think?

You guys think my car would look better with a matching roof?

Re: shud i paint the roof red...? need opinion

Save the money for tires...You have a very fine automobile regardless.

Paint the town red instead...

No, it wouldn't be silly to ask. Give it some time. The NSXs w/ original painted roofs will be worth more than aftermarket painted ones. Not today, not two years from now, but eventually.

Where did you get the Orange indicators from in the front bumper ??

Here we come to the crossroads of discussion- a basic difference in evaluation. You are speculating a "potential value" and I am talking about actual value.

The problem with "potential value" forcasting is that the car could be destroyed tomorrow if it got hit by some weenie who is talking on his cell phone...

Personally I think you are forecasting a value statement based on your preferences rather than fact.

If you like a black roof then so be it. Whatever your reason- but I don't think it was justifiable to state that a painted roof hurts resale value, and that is what you said in your first post.

That is your opinion, and I respectfully disagree with your opinion.
