There's no way I would pay $600 for a toy like that.
Especially when everyone already has a laptop and a smart phone.
Niche market is niche.

For $200 I would maybe think about it.

This thing is just silly (and so are the other 7 inchers). It's not that much bigger than the smartphones people already own. And what's up with the 3MP camera? Are they trying to compete with devices from 2-3 years ago?

Wow, Can you be any more like steve jobs? Seriously. Why don't you call them DOA too.

7 inchers are much more portable than an ipad. Apple was long rumored to be putting out a 7-inch iPad --- until Steve went all crazy again and insulted every other company out there.

If Apple made a 7-inch first, you would be calling it brilliant.

Uh, no it's too close in size to my phone. I don't see the point. Several other here have made the same comment as well.

Maybe if you have an EVO 4G, but your iPhone screen is half the size. Where are the comments here about the size?

Since I use an Iphone every day, I think having twice the screen size would be nice to have -- but not for $599.

Yeah I can attest to that. Many nights I'll use my EVO instead of my laptop to read websites and watch youtube. Screen size is just right.

I find myself browsing on the iPhone 4 more than my laptop now. It is just easier, but it would be nice if the screen were larger.

Don't take Jobs' rant about 7 inch screens too seriously. There have been times in the past where he would say "We will not do X. No one wants it. It's not cost effective." and then they turn around and do it a few years later because the market and technology have changed by then. So even though that is their current stance, they have the agility to change their minds if they think they are wrong.

Oh yeah, speaking of $599 being so high for the Samsung tablet, has anyone seen HP's slate price?

$799!

The market will decide if 7" is a reasonable size for a tablet device. I don't see it for myself, but it might work well enough for others.

But, it's gonna have to be cheaper than an iPad. Half the resolution should cost less, much less.

A 5 or 5.5 inch EVO would be awesome. I love my EVO now, always wonder though how bigger can it go before I say, okay its too big in my pocket. lol.

The galaxy tablet (or any tablets) are just expensive toys in my opinion. As much as I love android devices and windows 7 tablets, for that price I'd rather get the 11 incher laptops (a fusion between netbooks and laptop). Atleast for sure I can get jobs done on the go if I needed too (ie photoshop) and yet small enough to bring everyday like an ipad.

Half the resolution? iPad is 1024x768 and Galaxy Tablet is 1024x600.

How is that half?

Doesn't the unsubsidized iPhone 4 costs nearly the same as an iPad at 1/3 the size?

Actually closer to 1/5 the physical size.

Nonetheless, perception is important and these gizmos are going to compete with the iPad, not the iPhone. I think they're in for a tough sell if they price the 7" versions on par with the iPad.

I think HP's new slate with its 9 inch screen would be the smallest I would go for with a pad/slate.

I wouldn't my phone any larger because then i wouldn't be able to operate it with one hand.

Regardless of who makes it - I think a slate or pad should be in the 9-11 inch size range.

If you can't put a 7" device into a normal size pocket then it might as well be 9 inches because you have to carry it around.

Man, they sure are tacking on the extra charges. The base price will be doubled within a few months once you start paying for data and now even outrageous navigation fees. I lose more interest every time I learn more.

Hate to say it, but I think Apple is out maneuvering the market here. I was inline for the Galaxy but now I am thinking of splitting the difference and simply getting a larger phone for my pocket such as the X.
