Samsung Galaxy Tablet $599

The Galaxy Tablet should be a good product...the price is pretty high though.

I think the 7" tablets are the perfect size. All larger tablets are good for home theater and gaming. I see most phones turning into 7" devices. It's perfect for portability, video chat, gaming etc...

The future of smart phones could easily turn into these larger tablets. With accessories, these devices can work very well at home for simple surfing as well as portable communications.

BGR reviews the Samsung. Pretty much as most people thought....

"Sprint and Samsung shot us over a Galaxy Tab and, after several days of fiddling, we have our first impressions to report back," Jonathan S. Geller BGR.

"Let’s get to the most obvious thing — size! Apple’s CEO — who will remain nameless — publicly stated that a 7-inch screen was too small for a tablet, and after using the Tab, we tend to agree. Just using the device for the last few days proved to be very difficult from a size perspective," Geller reports. "Seven inches of display on a tablet, for us, feels pretty odd and makes using the device pretty uncomfortable. It’s a very weird in-between feeling; we can’t decide it feels like a smartphone that is too big or a tablet that is too small."

"Browsing the web with Flash on (enabled by default) proved to be a pretty frustrating experience. Scrolling was jittery, slow, and sometimes pages just wouldn’t even finish loading," Geller reports. "However, once we changed the browser’s plug-ins setting to on demand (think Click2Flash), the browser popped to life."

Oh, there's zero chance that smartphones or any phones will adopt the 7" screen size. Zero, nada, zip, 4-4=, nil

Pretty ugly review. I will be passing on that tablet. The bottom line is Google themselves said that OS is not Tablet ready. I think that review would support what they said.

The BB Playbook OTH will have an OS made specifically for a tablet, so hopefully it will do better.

Got an email from Sprint announcing this was on sale now.
$399

I was considering getting one since I had issues with my ipad but Apple just replaced it with a brand new one.

Also, I didn't want to sign a 2 year contract

What problems did you have with the iPad?

I am waiting on the Playbook. Looks bad ass. IPad 2 might be out by then. We'll see what they have to offer.

Popped in at Best Buy today to pick up a capacitive stylus (they were out) and asked about the Tab, and they didn't have any. Is this thing available in the USA yet?

My bestbuy had a few of them. I liked the size but for the money I would get an iPad.

I hear the iPad 2 will have 2 cameras. At first, I was unsure of the need for a front-facing camera. The rear-facing camera makes sense for video chatting via FaceTime, but why the front camera? It would seem that the iPad would make for an awkward camera.

I was talking with a friend and his company uses the iPad extensively in their business (they have 500+). In addition to business management tasks, they also use them to manage and control inventory and they want the front cam to help take photos of inventory items and for bar-code scanning purposes.

And there's all these augmented reality apps that are now out there that really need the front camera.

Makes perfect sense now.
