Honda sells about the same annual number of NC1s as they did NA2s and they have the same attitude about it: we're just gonna keep making these as a halo product and for the owners who "get it." They would have happily kept making the NA2 (likely refreshed as a NA3) but for the major DOT crash standard changes in 2005 that would have necessitated a major structural redesign of the car. The R&D money is already sunk on the NC1- it doesn't cost them much more proportionally to keep producing it (if anything, more cars dilutes the per-unit cost much like fighter jet production), so I imagine we'll see many more years of the NC model as a low-production unit. This car will die much like the NA2 did- when the regulations change. But, this time it will be things like mandatory semi/self-driving and full electrification that will force Honda's hand (it already has in Japan). At that point, they will either pull the plug or design a third generation of the NSX to meet the new standards. That is a major budget decision versus a minor one for a model refresh like the 2022.
Honestly, Acura service is so poor that if I was buying a new one, I'd just order it from @
powdbyrice and I would advise any prospective member on Prime to do so rather than trusting the kid who just came over from the Chevy dealer two weeks ago and thinks the NSX is the old version (if he even knows what it is). I remember trying to call to set up some service for my 91 and the Acura service rep was like "a what?" when I said it was for a NSX... :frown::frown:
