Is Green Good?

I am keeping my car and ENJOYING it.

God bless my beautiful GREEN nsx.

Sounds like a good result to me - congratulations, Snyper27, on a great outcome!

Well, no call has been made to me. I had stated in the ad $42K FIRM. He tried to talk me down to $40K because "HE DIDN'T LIKE THE COLOR"...but as I read here he actually "LIKES THE COLOR". Just goes to show you if you sell your car at a FAIR asking price people will STILL try to talk you down on the price, and lie about the reason why, and in the end never come through on the car even though they say they are going to go ahead and buy it. Happy go MGRINGLE, I am keeping my car and ENJOYING it. I don't have the stomach for this car selling crap. UGH. God bless my beautiful GREEN nsx.

I am surprised that you have made the assumption that MGRINGLE is not interested in your car because he has not contacted you. Many buyers check into the financing of a car before they will contact the seller to make the final purchase. I would guess that with your attitude towards him that even though he might have come back and paid your asking price, you won't see him now. The next time you decide to sell your NSX, expect people to make you offers and don't be so thin skinned.

Snyper27,
I'm proud of the decision you've made to keep the car instead of selling it for something else you were considering in our conversations. I don't blame you for not wanting to waste your time on people who are interested in buying your car and then show up to offer you less because they "Don't like the color". That was the REAL reason for your hostility; not because he hasn't called you back yet.

I say, "BULLSH-T". If you don't like the color don't spend $1 for it, or for that matter, $40,000 and don't waste the seller's time and insult their intelligence to think that they'll come down in price just because you don't like the color. That's like saying, "If you lower the price I'll do you a FAVOR and take it off your hands even though it's not the color I REALLY want." If a seller was quick to drop the price 2 grand on a car I was thinking about purchasing I would think maybe they were desperate to get rid of it because there WAS something wrong with it.

Let him play that game with someone else. Go out and spend some time in your NSX and feel glad you made the right decision to keep it. It just goes to show them that you are not willing to lower your standards knowing the level of quality of upkeep that you have maintained to keep your NSX in the pristine condition that it's in. (Quality should come with a price tag. You get what you pay for). From the photos of your beautiful home and gorgeous Mercedes I know you're not desperate for money so live a little and someday when you're in the market again for something new (like tomorrow
smile.gif
) you'll be in a better state of mind about what you are willing to sacrifice by giving up the NSX; whether it be your time or $$$.

HIS LOSS.

My $.02.

Out of curiosity, how many here wanted one color, but then changed their opinion when seeing it in person?

Before I bought mine, I only considered red and black...going back and forth between which one I desired more. I had only ridden in a black before, but had never even stood in the presence of another color before I saw my red one sitting on the showroom floor. I knew when I saw it that I had to have it.

Then, when I started meeting other NSXers, I saw other colors that easily could have swayed me had I seen them first on the showroom floor.

The thing that shocked me most were that colors I never would have imagined liking were so damn striking on the NSX. I used to think silver was boring until I stood next to a Kaiser Silver NSX-T...had I not gone with red I could easily have seen myself in a Silverstone one. But the yellow is the one that REALLY took my breath away. Yes, it is a LOT of color...very bold and conspicuous. But it is gorgeous. It stands out at club events because of its rarity and, of course, by how bright it is.

I recommend people unsure of what color to get to try seeing them in person. Photos definitely do not do justice to many of the NSX color combos. Green, for instance, often photographs just as dark as black...

Brad,

I had made contact with the seller(MGRINGLE) quite some time ago. He tried to talk me down to $40K as stated above. He had already sold his M3 and therefore didn't require financing. What's that say about BMW owners?
No thin-skiness here, and if I was being thin skinned, it's because I don't like to deal with garage sale mentalities. I'm not a dick guys, it's just that this really irritated me, and yes, I vented. Sorry. I would have been a FOOL to sell my baby anyway. 1994, 21K, hardtop, el perfecto.

One additional thought...

Sounds like there are three things that got you ticked off, MGRINGLE. I don't blame you about the second and the third. But I would expect ANYONE to try to negotiate a lower price when buying a car, even if the price is stated as "firm". I don't think a difference of $2K is an insult or a "lowball" offer, and I wouldn't get upset about that. I think it's acceptable for a buyer to offer a slightly lower price on any car advertised as "firm", and it's up to the seller to simply respond yes or no to the offer.

Just my .02....... 42k for a pristine 94 with 21k miles is an outrageously great price...!!!!!!!!!! He should've jumped all over it.. I've been offered 40k for my 24k mile, pristine 91. Oh well, another missed buying opportunity with a great result for you. Keep it and love it!

Check my Brooklands Green in the
OWNERS GALLERY. What a difference a day light can make. Actually the purple is very dark too, can you find them (2) in tha NSXPO picture?

It's not just photographs; depending on the lighting, it can be mistaken for black in person, too (yes, Mike, just like the purple).

On my website, I have a great shot from Canyonball IV of a green one that actually shows the green quite well.

In that same section, I have a shot of a Midnight Purple one, but the color balance of the photograph I scanned was so far off that I had to do some Photoshop manipulation to restore the color that I remembered seeing...I figure the lab couldn't figure out what color the car was supposed to be.

Yes, the green can look black in person...when I first saw one I mistook it for black until I saw it at just the right angle.

What does this say about Honda owners?

Interesting short article in April 23 AutoWeek, describing auction results on a 1974 Ferrari 248 GTS Dino in light metallic green. "This Dino has been searching for a new owner for some time. It was a no-sale at the Christie's/Tarrytown auction in April 2000, and a no-sale at the RM/Monterey auction in August 1998. Most Americans want their Dinos painted....red or....yellow. Aside from this car's green paint, there's really no reason that it hasn't sold....before now."

The $42k thing caught me eye. Like the seller I don't like bargin hunters. I am a big tipper and never buy anything on sale. I buy what I want and am only happy to pay. I don't buy often but when I do.. I like to go all the way! Spending is fun once in a while. But I also have another love for round numbers that puts me with odds with myself on this one. Nothing is more fun then showing up with a nice round number like $40k in cash or check and make such a clean deal. Anyone that puts 42k is just asking for a 40k deal! firm or not. As dumb as it sounds, in an argument of pure logic it would almost be easyer to pay 45k then 42k. Does anyone else follow my twisted love for round numbers. (didn't think so) ... its just me right? hehe

Goes to show how buyers and sellers can have many different personalities coming into a deal.

NSXocto - I'll sell you my NSX for $100,000 which is a VERY round number...

Why would you never buy anything on sale? How do you buy any commodity products? I don't even know where you can buy a personal computer that isn't "on sale" or otherwise discounted off "retail price."

Lud - Very funny! That is a very nice round number!

Any way to answer your question... My wife buys all the little stuff around the house. She gets off on shopping, and even loves buying the electronic gadgets. She is a coupon nut and I am not at all.

When I get to buy something it is rare but usually a big purchase. So after many years of buying homes, boats, cars.. and negotiating big money deals at work. I've learned that people have different habits when it comes to money and its very interesting to see this behavior come out in car deals that fall through over a few grand, or more accurately different selling behaviors.

Reminds me of Monty Python's Life of Brian.. He wanted to buy a fake beard but the guy wouldn't sell it
Because customer didn't have time to haggle and wanted to pay full price.

Lots of people pay the asking price. I offered less but they wouldn't take it. Then there are all the one price dealers including the local Acura dealer. I am not unhappy paying the asking price.
