UPDATE: I just got back from Buttonwillow!
It's been several months since I origianally asked for everyones help. I learned alot from many of you. I went to Buttonwillow last friday for a Speedventures event. It was the full course clockwise I believe.
I just had Autowave install several mods. NA2 Type R shocks from Honda, rear non compliance toe links and upper beam and front upper and lower chassis bars. I had them do an aligment similar to the '93 specs. I can't tell you how much better the car handles than my stock '91 suspension setup. I was running my stock '91 wheels with Bridgestone Re730's. The tires are nothing to write home about, but the car still felt incredible. Very, very predictable. The rear end used to feel "heavy and loose" and it wanted to oversteer at the limit more than I was comfortable with. The rear is now very planted and I can control it with the throttle with ease when needed (fairly similar to my go kart). It has tons of steering now. I love this damn car!
I was fortunate enough to have Ken "2slow2speed" meet me at the track and give me some pointers. He took me out as a passenger in his advanced group and showed me the line. It was very helpful. I had a blast being his passenger. Thanks Ken! He showed me how to take Lost Hill without losing my limbs! I had Rylan (Doug Hiyashi's buddy) as an instructor as well. They were both very informative.
Each session I got quicker by about 3 seconds. I finally ended up running 2:21's in my last session. I feel I can perhaps shave 2-3 more seconds off with my current tires with a bit more practice. I'm not very good at heel-toe downshifting, so I wouldn't up-shift to 4th on the front straight or the drag strip. I'll focus on my downshiffting more next time. I was more interested in learning the line and the breaking points.
Basically, the NSX is a marvel. I can't believe how perfectly balanced it is with my few mods. I understand that I wasn't driving it as fast as many of you can, but I was amazed at how easy it is to drive very fast. I made a few mistakes at the limit and it was very forgiving. I can't wait to take it to the track again. I'm going to the Speedventures event at California Speedway this month. Are any of you going? I have some R compound Victoracers that I wanted to put on the car, but I think I'm going to continue running street tires until I'm completely comfortable with the car.
