Group buy for custom leather seats

Re: Possibility for Infiniti-style leather this time

I just called and spoke with Kim about another group buy. I asked her about the Infiniti-style leather and she said they had not yet had time to research it, but if enough of us are interested in a second group buy and that leather was preferable, they would definitely make time to track it down for us.

So, if you lost interest due to the grain issues, you might want to consider raising your hand for this group buy.

Hey Aiken: It's good of you to follow up with this for everyone. Thanks:) And you are correct, it is highly unlikely I will order from them, just out of principal. These guys obviously see the negative comments posted on here, and don't care enough to even make a statement to make things right. Oh yeah, they still owe me that phone call from a few months back!:) Oh well.

About the leather:

Just want to mention that when I went to check out the Infiniti's, the leather in the M45 and G35 sports coupes in black perf were the nicest looking. Very black and very smooth. I dont want to steer anyone in the wrong direction as far as quality. They just looked nice and smooth. Some of the other cars (FX and QX56) which had tan leather were funky looking.

I also hear the leather in the new Acura TL is nice as well, but didnt check it out specifically. I am willing to go check it out.

Side note: I checked out my buddies SL500 and the leather in there looks completely different than that of the sample swatches which Kim sent me. I was told they would be identicle.

Okay, I took you off the list. Can't say I blame you, given what you posted. I figure it's up to Steven to deal with his employees and their effect on potential customers. I'm going to overlook it in light of my need of new leather. Kim was very friendly and helpful when I spoke with her on the phone, but that conversation was of a different nature.

By the way, just my experience with people in general: I never rely on anyone, anywhere, any time, to return phone messages, voice mail, or email. I always call back once a day until I get them or give up on them, sometimes even more often. Doctor's offices are the worst: it's guaranteed your message will never be relayed. I just refuse to get off the line. :)

Anyway, thanks for the update.

I agree, but my motivation isn't there in this case as I am not desperate for product, and dont care to buy from rude shops. On the flipside, their motivation should be higher in order to gain goodwill with me and everyone else.

Re: Possibility for Infiniti-style leather this time

Hi bro,

thank you for doing this..

How many ppl do we need to make this GB happen?

I am interested.. just need to know how many day should i go by without food to save up! ;)

ps. please be so kind to educate me on this: what is the difference between OEM leather vs 1st GB leather vs Infinite Leather?

thanks

My installed pics!

Finally, here are a couple of pictures of my installed leather. They were loose in several spots but I misted them with water and rubbed it out in the hot sun (per my installer's recommendations) about a month ago before I re-installed them in my car. They seemed to tighten them up a bit. My problem is the passenger side bolster is still too loose ( see detailed picture). Also, I reallly don't like how the three little "rolls" between the seat back and the base look. I know that they have to give when you recline / incline the seats, but way too sloppy in my opinion. For the price, it was still a good deal but these issues are driving me crazy. I asked my installer if he could fix these issues and he indicated that he would have to tear them apart and that would cost major $$$. I honestly don't think it's the foam that is compressed on the passenger seat but the fit of the leather kit. Look closely at some of the other pictures of installed seats and you can see the same looseness in that area - you'll have to look close because it's hard to see in pictures. It's the inside passenger bolster.

Now for the pics

I have a question for the people who were in on the first buy (or just people who know about these things): Does it seem to you that the double-stitching serves a purpose and is a good thing? I don't actually like the piping-like seams on the center cushions.

I prefer the kind of seam on the oem seat, not because it's what I'm used to, but because I tend to wear shorts and I don't like the feel of that kind of seam on my leg. It may be less important if we can get the softer leather, but I'm still curious about reasons to have that kind of stitching.

Any Ivory install pics or feedback?

I had my Ivory seats installed about 3 weeks ago and they look great. The leather is very soft, and the double stiching is not stiff at all. I am very happy with the seats and the service that I received.
The installer who did the work for me even mentioned how well the seats were constructed, mentioning the double stiching on all the seams.
The Ivory leather that I have doesn't seem to have a grain pattern in it at all.

I will post some pics tonight of the seats.

I'm interested pending samples, assuming they'll even deal with me again. ;) Hey, it's not like I tried to return them! If I get ones I like better then maybe I'll offer mine current set at a discount.

I don't see why they wouldn't deal with you. You were nothing but a gentleman when you aired your issues with their product.
There's nothing wrong with being up front about how you feel when you keep it as clean as you did. They should consider taking them back in exchange IMO.

Frankly, I've been somewhat turned off since starting up the idea of a second group buy.

I've spoken to Kim on the phone and given her all my info and she said she'd get back to me with pricing. She never did.

Then she sent me a PM here after reading the thread and figuring out which one was me, asking for my info again so she could get back to me with prices. Again, I gave her my info. Again, she never got back to me.

Maybe I'll call up and insist on talking to the owner, but really, I shouldn't have to do that, and it's turning me off doing business with them. I'd rather pay more to get it done by someone who actually values their customers.
