Group buy for custom leather seats

Aiken, note that more than one people share that same Homer account. It's possible that her boss read the private message, but she had not seen it (maybe he deleted it?). I agree that her wording could have been a bit nicer, regardless. (ie "that you claimed to have...")

I don't know, but I'm still interested in a second GB if enough other parties are still willing.

Hey Aiken,

I understand that you are pissed off. Of course, you have the choice of whom to do business with. We fully respect that. Honestly, I am/was not pleased with the response i got. But, after all, i still consider to purchase a decent product @ a decent price. Anyhow, it is your call.. (i am sure we love to have you back onboard for GB2)

Hi GB2 members,

are we still or not? If so, what would be the pricing this time? Again, i just want single tone, OEM blk leather seats.

-jjc.

Homer also promised (both here in this thread and separately in a phone conversation) to provide me with a free shift boot and center console cover, to make up for the better deal you guys got in the group buy. That was months ago. I sent him a reminder email, and have heard nothing and gotten nothing. So I agree, less than stellar customer service is an understatement.

Questionable Follow-up

Kim asked me to send her some pictures of my seats in order for them to address the issues. It took me a little longer than expected because I had a friend take the digital pics. Here's my e-mail that I sent on 6/15/04. I received confirmation the next day that she read the e-mail but I haven't heard back from them at this point.

Kim,

Last time we spoke, you asked me to send you some pictures of my seats after the install. This was partly in response to the issues that I indicated on a post that I made on nsxprime.com under my user name ISONSX. The leather is much grainier than the stock, ands I like most people greatly prefer the smoother leather. Some of the guys are now in discussions with your company about some Infiniti leather to be used on the kits to solve this problem. I have a slight issue with the graininess of the leather but the workmanship is very good as best I can tell with my untrained eye. In addition, the fit on the bottom of the seats is perfect. However, there are two issues that clearly need to be addressed in my opinion with your leather kit. First, the three “rolls” between the seat bottom and the top at the pivot corners need more cushion and a significant re-work. Mine are saggy no matter what position the seat is in – incline, recline, or in the middle. It looks absolutely terrible and I am completely displeased with this. Second, the bolsters on the upper seats are loose in several spots but specifically the passenger inside bolster. I misted the seats with water and rubbed them out in the hot sun about 15 times to tighten them up as suggested by my installer. This significantly tightened them up but there is no fixing the passenger bolster loose area and the three “rolls”. Others in the group buy have also acknowledged this problem. Since several people have indicated that theirs is very loose in this area, I would suggest that you look into modifying the pattern in this area. I am attaching several pictures of my seats for your reference. Please share these with Steven as I know he would have a keen interest in knowing the problems and issues with the leather kit.

I was extremely disappointed in the fit once they were installed due to these issues. I don’t know what the resolution could be but would be very open to any ideas you and Steven have about this. At this point, I couldn’t recommend your kit to anyone due to the fit issues. My installer, who does all of the Acura dealer’s work as well as recovered a fellow NSX’s leather seats perfectly indicated that it would be major time and expense to get these issues fixed as the leather would need to be completely taken apart and re-worked.

You and/or Steven can reach me at XXX-XXX-XXXX to discuss this and I would be happy to answer any questions you have.

I don't think that I was rude, unprofessional, or in any way inflamatory but I hope eventually I will get a response. Each of you looking to do a GB2 shold be aware of the issues that all of us in GB1 have had and others continue to experience. If they simply do some simple customer service improvements and become more responsive, I think they would benefit greatly from this.

ISO--

Definitely post whatever response (or lack thereof) that you receive.

I think the issue is something that Kim mentioned the one time I talked to her on the phone, which is that they have plenty of customers already. They're in a position to ignore the pickier customers (us).

So far the only thing they prove to be good at is ignoring customers. They do not seem to make any mistakes in that, they do it perfectly :) Too bad you cannot say that about their product haha!

Hey guys, I have a REAAAALY dumb question. The Company keeps blaming the ripples in the leather on the installer. If that is the case, why do the seats they advertise on their website have this issue as well????? Why are they so freaking confident on the perfection of their manufacturing process if they do not have the proof of a perfect NSX seat to back them up!?!?!?

Here is an example off their website:

This Company (KIM!) annoys the crap out of me!

Hello Jack
Obviously you have decided not to purchase from Northwest, so why do continue to devote your time to this?? I have attached a pic of a leather interior from another company, worth $2500, and do you notice that there are quite a few wrinkles??? Northwest plans to alter the pattern to try to avoid the wrinkling, but what you have to understand is that nine times out of ten it IS the installation. In fact, that pic that you have posted was of an interior that someone DID install themselves. It still is an awesome interior and pretty darn close to perfect as most people agree, especially for how much you pay. Please feel free to check out the rest of the website and you will notice that a most interiors do have a perfect fit. If you have so many issues with the company, why do you not just pick up the phone and express them to the owner personally?? I am his assistant, and I have expressed everything that has been posted on these forums, but you must understand that most days Steven is at his desk all day taking one call after another. I realize that our customer service has not reached the point at which we would like it to, but what you have to understand is that 99% of the customers we deal with order their covers, they're manufactured, and we ship. It's over and done with, and they are always very impressed & satisfied.
I will admit that we have been hesitant to run another group buy for NSX at this time because we are already overwhelmed with business and we would like to be prepared to accept twenty or thirty orders all at once this time to ensure that all details are taken care of. We have run countless successfull group buys with other forums, but would prefer not to go ahead with this one at the time being. For those of you who may have been really interested in another group buy, please contact me and I will see what kind of discount we can come up with.
"ISONSX": Please give Steven a call and you can discuss with him as to what you would like to do about your interior. I'm sure you and Steven will have no problems coming to some kind of conclusion.
Jeff: Please give me a call and I will get your order going for what we had promised you. Due to the fact that the group buy was so long ago, I had forgotten that we had agreed to this and I did not receive your email; our system has been not working properly for a while and I have not received many emails but we have taken care of it.
I aplogize for not meeting your expectations as far as customer service, and in Northwest's defense, we are a small company growing rapidly and barely keeping up with the demand.
I do, however, hope that we can meet your expectations some time in the near future!
Thanks
Kim

I also thought I would attach a pic of NSX covers that were installed in the shop by our installers. I have other .jpg's as well, and the leather is smooth everywhere and the pattern is the same.
Thanks
Kim

My new seats look fine...

In defense of Kim and Steve, my new ivory leather seats look and feel great. I had them installed locally and the installer commented on how well made the seats were.

I know that we can all get pretty picky about how our cars look, but in the big scheme of things, it's only a wrinkled seat cover. Mine have some wrinkles too, but compared to what the original leather looked like, it's a minor flaw IMO.

I for one think that we got a great deal, considering the price of the OEM leather covers.

And they smell soooo good..... ;)

Okay, I just spoke with Steven on the phone and explained the situation (probably in an uncomfortable amount of detail). After spending quite some time talking to him, I feel much more comfortable with rejoining the group buy. I am still very displeased with how Kim treated me, but Steven made it clear to me that the company overall is indeed interested in pleasing its customers and is still willing to do a group buy with us.

Details from the conversation:

Steven said that yes, he can get an Infiniti-style leather (not exact, but very similar) if we all want it. He did stress that we would all have to want the same kind of leather, to which I replied that I believe we would all prefer the smoother leather. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

He also said that a group buy of five or so is about perfect, as it satisfies the minumum for a price drop, while not going beyond his current resources. I believe we had five before I bowed out. Kim is due to post new prices for us tomorrow. Assuming that happens, expect them to be somewhat higher than last time.

The issue of the ripples on the bolsters: Steven said they are tweaking the pattern slightly to address this. He also suggests using a professional installer experienced with using a heat gun to shrink the leather. That's how they got the snug fit on the yellow seats above, so in theory it should be possible with the existing pattern. YMMV.

Apparently they will be offering center console covers and shift boots and something else I've forgotten as options. I'll leave that for them to provide details on.

FYI, my covers have finally been installed by my shop. While I have not seen them yet, every one at the shop jumped on the phone to tell me how "amazing/bad ass" these covers are. Of course, us NSXers have incredibly high standards so I will be the judge of the craftsmanship once I visit the shop.

you made the decision very easy for me.

so why do continue to devote your time to this?? Kim

hmm...consider it a favor. You are gaining customer feedback. I would appreciate it if I were in your shoes. Besides, I am a fast typer ;)

I have attached a pic of a leather interior from another company, worth $2500, and do you notice that there are quite a few wrinkles???Kim

Ok Kim, let's compare apples to apples please. That picture looks like a"gathered" style, hence is supposed to look that way. Kind of like the pre '2000 NSX seats. or did the '2000 NSX seats just become smooth by wear and tear like the grain became smooth on everyones leather?

Northwest plans to alter the pattern to try to avoid the wrinkling, but what you have to understand is that nine times out of ten it IS the installation. In fact, that pic that you have posted was of an interior that someone DID install themselves. Kim

I have yet to see a "perfect" NSX application of your product. The yellow seat youre referring to doesnt show the entire seat....

It still is an awesome interior and pretty darn close to perfect as most people agree, especially for how much you pay.Kim

Are you saying "you get what you pay for"? anyways, the product was described to me as perfect OEM copy....not "darn close to"

If you have so many issues with the company, why do you not just pick up the phone and express them to the owner personally??Kim

you guys still owe ME a phone call....in fact, before I posted my negative comments about our email exchange, I called Steve to let him know. I left 3 messages , waited a week, and no callback. so you tell me, why should I call back?

I am his assistant, and I have expressed everything that has been posted on these forums, but you must understand that most days Steven is at his desk all day taking one call after another. Kim

you havn't expressed everything that has been posted Kim...I suggest you look again.

I am in,, pending on new pricing..

honestly, i've received the "new" pricing from Kim today.. i dont want to reveal the new "pricing" i am sure kim will release it tomorrow...

The one i received was a bit more steeper than GB1.. so..,, hopefully, it was a mis-type. Or doesnt reflect on mono-tone. otherwise, i will really re-consider it..

Good morning guys!
I was pleased to hear this morning that one of you spoke with Steven last night and that you have requested to see the group buy pricing.
I would like to mention that the pricing this time will be a little steeper due to the fact that the first group buy was an experiment, (as forum group buys were still new to us) and we wanted to come in with very aggressive pricing. We cannot offer that kind of pricing again due to the fact that in the time it takes to manufacture the covers for the NSX, we can do two Corvette covers, and their group buy pricing started at $995!
Anywase, I thought you guys might want an explanation.

1-4 $795
5-10 $750
11-15 $695

Includes: Two tone and colored stitching.
Embroidery: $25/pair
Perforation: $35
Preferred Suede: $35
Door Panels: $50 in matching Vinyl
Leather Door Panels: $150
Shift Boot: $35
Console/ Arm Rest Cover: $50
Embroidery On Console Cover: $20

If all who are interested could please foreward me their address today and I will have samples of this Infiniti leather sent out so all of you know exactly what you are getting.

If any of you have any questions at all regarding this group buy, please do not hesitate to email me directly or post!
Thanks!
Kim

I am Still In !!!!! :) lets see if we can get some more people So we can get that price break

parker

I have over 25 emails from interested fellow NSX owners, so I will be contacting them all and informing them of this group buy. Hopefully this can get you guys a few more buyers and possibly bring down the price!
Cheers
Kim
