F1 2009 megathread

I was hoping for more of Jordan yellow/black/white combo. But beggers can't be choosers and I'm just happy they'll be on the grid.

Something tells me that Brawn GP will be a smashing success and that Honda will want to buy the team back in a few years. ;)

Then put in a Honda engine and fail.:tongue::biggrin:

I kid I kid

Re: colors and the mole's predictions

I was hoping for more of Jordan yellow/black/white combo.
Shawn, you following Phil Huff's site where the Brackley mole says not to get too enamoured with those colors and the simple design? He insists that they just threw some color on the cars to get them out the door to Silverstone today and then on to Barcelona Monday.

He says you won't see the actual livery until Melbourne. Further, since the sponsor will be "surprising and major", their colors will dominate the final livery? OK, sounds logical.

If it's going to black and yellow, I'd like to see Doc's bumblebee theme with lots of black and a flourescent yellow.

I'm still hoping for the major blue/splash of red & white theme myself.

Music to my ears!!!

Re: We're dreaming........

Music to my ears!!!
"Button at the top of the morning timesheets." How's that for some "NFW" news?

No one's jumping to any conclusions. I just had to hear how that would sound. It may be the only time this year, but what the hell.......it's sounds good now.

on the Q.T. Ponyboy is a busy boy

In case you’re wondering where Shawn is just when the F-1 season is heating up, I got a couple of tweets from him; very cryptic and in code so he’s apparently undercover working on some high level secret stuff. Near as I can make out, he’s in Barcelona sitting on Nick Fry as job #1. I think he might have said he was administering the 4th beating on tricky Nick. You can barely make out what appears to be a whip flailing about in the back of the garage in this video. The one thing that came thru clearly was this complaint about Nick: “He keeps saying something to me but I don't understand. Why can’t the English speak English?”

I suspect he’s also working on the new sponsorship deal too when not coaching Jensen.

And for his greatest accomplishment, he also got the yellow color to be much more like lime green.

I told him to keep up the good work the world is watching.

Thanks for giving away my secret Ted. As silent partner in the newly formed Brawn GP, my sole responsibility is to keep Nick Fry away from the cars and away from Brackley altogether.

So far, it's been rather difficult. That changed when I asked Mosley how I can keep him tied up. Max graciously gave me the contact info of some gentleladies that would rope, gag, and make Fry speak German. I've got the pics to prove it too! ;)

I like it ... BrawnBee.... I'll sell them the rites to my "trademarked" ricer paint scheme:biggrin:

He always has. Now he doesn't have to play sidekick to MS. I think Rubinho and Jenson will do MUCH better this season. I'm still rooting for them, even though Honda is not in the picture anymore.

Re: You betcha

He always has........ I'm still rooting for them,...
Yep, that's the Semper Fi spirit

Or the way I look at it: "Old Age and Treachery can (occassionally) overcome Youth and Skill."

Truth be told, these 2 days of testing have felt better than if the stock market went up 2000.

Surely you're 401K is in bonds and gold then. ;)

But it has felt good and if Honda would have stayed with the team, they'd be reaping the investment they put into it. Now others will be reaping the reward though not without justification.

Long live Brawn GP.

Interesting documentary by Honda and, probably, very applicable to their latest F1 entry. And a little footage of Fukui to boot.

EDIT: how can you not love Honda when they're this honest and forthright about their racing programs. Interesting - the comments that Honda is primarily an engine company.

Shawn, thanks for continuing the beatings until morale improves. Keep up the good work. I've been thinking about writing a screen play for a new movie, but your story would have to be X or NC with the Max Mosley spice added.

I think I'll start out with something a little more PG-13, something like this:

OMG, that is hilarious! I hope that movie never sees the light of day however.

That is very encouraging for Brown Racing.

I still think Honda dropped the ball for pulling out. Ross Brown said last season that they 2009 car will not only be good car, but also a race winning contender.

What a shame for Honda.

Seems to me like Honda designed a superior car for 2009. The factory car is now much slower than the customer mercedes powered car. Supposedly Honda designed a superior aero package and one can only imaging what would have been had they stayed. Honda must be kicking themselves in the ass about now.
Cant wait for the season opener!

After only 4 total days on track Brawn has the field covered by damn near a full second. What a story. Bernie must be smiling from here to next Wednesday.

Re: Old guys rule

What a story...

I was just reading the timing sheet and thinking the same thing. Granted, who knows what kind of times a Honda engine would be produced but I don't think the Honda engine would have been down on power - if at all - compared to the Mercedes.

Alfonso thinks the Brawn GP car times are real. And he's already sweating bullets. All I know is that I'm buying some Brawn GP gear as soon I can.

"Move over."

< - - - jumps on bandwagon.

Re: Old guys rule

Alfonso thinks the Brawn GP car times are real.

Some F1 reporters have suggested that Brawn is running low on fuel to post top times in a bid to impress prospective sponsors. While that may be true, both Button and Rubens have beaten last year's fastest lap time by over 1 second, which was set by Kubica in Q2 qualifying, when the cars were also running very light. So Alfonso is probably right.

Re: Now we must be hallucinating

What a shame for Honda.

Perhaps Honda was the problem. Jenson has said that being a privateering team - with no Honda corporate involvement - has been a breath of fresh air. It seems that the team is actually happy to have Honda out of the picture, dispite having lost their source of funding.
