Downforce Carbon Fiber Engine Cover Group Buy

BUMP for any updates?

Last week, we received the following response from Peter about his service. He apologized for the slow service. He has made 7 out of 10 engine cover already, so it's getting closer... He doesn't want to accept our money and make us wait for the products. Hang in there. I know I can't wait for him to announce our shipment. I'll let you know if I hear any new update.

I would like one. light lexon.
Thanks

All,

I have updated the waiting list according to the responses in this thread. If anyone in the top 10 position decides to change their mind, then the next person on the waiting list gets priority for the next available slot.

Based on the feedback from the local in Southern CA, it should be worth the wait.

Please let me know if decide to chagne your mind so I can update it.

I have sent a PM to Peter yesterday for an update and I'll let you know once I hear back from him.

I would still love to see the mesh option. I believe that's the route I want to take but I would like to see what it looks like if I can.

OK, I'm out. Its taking too long so I opted to have my friend mail me a mesh Type R cover from Japan.

Someone else take my spot!

No problem. I apologize. I'll PM nchhotu if he's interested since he's next in line just to be fair. If he's not interested, then i'm going down from the list.

This is not really a complaint, because I can sympathize with Peter's situation, so please do not take this as a bash of him or Downforce. I am certainly a fan of his products. I think he is a victim of his own sucess. This thread will be 2 months old in a week and no deliveries so far, which tells me he must have a lot on his plate. I do not worry that he will not deliver, but as you can see some people just expect a quicker turn around than Peter can deliver with his workload. Also, I have emailed through his website twice and PM'ed him through Prime and have yet to get a response from any of these which are well over 30 days old.

I agree with you. Being good at what you do can backfire on you a little bit as you put it so well.
I've bought a couple of things from him and am happy with the product but certainly didn't like the wait that I had to endure.
I guess if you pay for something up front and it takes longer to ge it than you expect, then you start really worrying and asking questions.
It only takes a few minutes out of the day to either post publicly or get someone to do it for you what the situation is.
Communication is SO vital in the industry of selling something. I know this first hand.
I hope everyone gets their product sooner rather than later and is happy with it.
BTW, I feel you abou the emails and PMs.

Like Downforce stated before that they learned their lesson from the previous RWG group buy when everyone paid first and waited 2+ months for the item. This time around, they're not taking the money first at all. And that's why they wanted to make sure 10 of them are in stock and be ready to ship after receiving payment from us. The only thing we lost is ... maybe HOPE of a new product, etc?

Maybe I shouldn't have started this group buy thread so early?

I apologize on behalf of Downforce in attempt to start this group buy. I do know how some of you guys feel about the waiting part. I"m just thankful that Downforce is allowing a group discount on a great product. Should I wait any longer? Well, I waited over 6 months when I inquired about it to Downforce...and i'm willing to wait longer. I'm not in a hurry. If you are in a hurry, then I can take your name off the list. I'll find a way to fulfill the 10 reserved spots.

I just got off the phone with Peter at Downforce. He's a very busy guy, but I was able to catch him. He apologized for the long wait. I'll find out about the payment process next week.

Here's an update:

The item is almost ready to go for all of us by next week. There's a piece for the targa top car that holds the cover up that is slowing him down. If you do not need that piece, then he can ship it out for you next week.

I know some of you have other questions about mesh, etc. I recommend you trying to call Downforce via phone. The phone is located on their website.

I hope this helps...

Personally, I'd like to thank you and Downforce for putting this all together. It's easy to forget just how hard it is to organize a group buy, especially when the ones that usually benefit the most are the buyers. I think if nobody has paid anything then really nobody can really be upset about anything. Really the worst it has cost anyone is having their name on a list for a few weeks. Anyhow, I'm glad to see this is moving forward. Even though I haven't seen any mesh pictures yet, I'd still like to change my order to a mesh insert. Thanks!

I don't think anybody is doubting what is involved with doing a GB. Matter of fact, I'm doing one on another board right now.
As for the consumer benefitting the most, don't kid yourself. The more you sell the more you make. Obviously you make less per unit but if you move enough of the units then you make it worth your while. If not, then nobody would offer to do them.
As long as no $$ has changed hands then I guess it is all good.

NRG, Thanks for the post and yes it does help. As I said earlier, I am not trashing Peter or DF, but I think the points I made are valid. If he had failed to answer 1 email or PM, I could easily overlook it, but common courtesy would be to answer the second, or third one. In my opinion someone who does not respond does not want your business. I do appreciate the phone call suggestion as I will try that. I guess I am the opposite, as I much prefer emails or pm's to phone calls since I can get overloaded with phone calls and bog my workday down, but he might work better the other way. Thanks also NRG for all the time you have put into this for us. If you could get us a pic of the mesh so we could see what it looks like you would be my hero!

Thanks Zero-Cool for the information. We all have no doubt that Downforce produces quality stuff. And that's why i'm willing to continue to wait.

I feel like driving 500 miles down there just to check it out in person.
