CGI Track Event - Sept. 13 2004

if my brake pads are getting toward the thin side is it ok if I just bring some extra sets along to change them in between runs or do I wanna just pull the old ones and put in the new ones and bed them prior to coming? Refering to the above post and checking over the car I want to come prepared but I don't want to waste pads that still have life in them (I don't think they're that bad but I just wanna be prepared and be on the safe side of things).
That depends. ;)

When you start tracking your car, you will get some experience with how quickly you go through whatever kind of brake pads you use. On the NSX, my front pads (various brands, all either stock or better) usually last around 300-500 actual track miles, and the rears 600-800. That will help you figure out how many track miles you have left on your pad, by pro-rating the wear rate of pad material. New front pads are 11 mm thick, and rears 9 mm. You should replace them when they are still at least 2 mm thick; I am using street/track pads and I am finding that it is better to replace them at around 4 mm.

Based on your wear rate, if you have enough pad material to last you the day, then leave the pads on. If not (OR, if you are not sure of your wear rate and they don't look all that thick), you have a choice of changing them beforehand, or changing them at the track (and possibly missing track time doing so).

I'll be at this event!!

I'll be doing my first CGI event in a few years on the 13th. I will be driving my e30 M3. I have a good buddy who just got his e30 M3 who will be doing his 1st ever event there as well!!

It will be good to be out there with you guys again!!

DE event at GMAN Sep 10-12

For those attending the 9/13 CGI event, AND are interested in a LONGER weekend at Gingerman, the Audi Club Michigan chapter is also running an event that weekend:

- Friday (9.10) : ADD (advanced drivers day)
- Sat - Sun (9.11-12): Driving School and Safety Seminar

Event info at http://www.audichicago.org/eventdetail.php?id=90

Signup form at www.audichicago.org/documents/GingerMan_App_2004.pdf

I believe there are still spots available -- contact Mike Metzler (event organizer) at [email protected]

I've run with these folks before, and they have GOOD events.

There is already a waiting list for the Windy City BMW school at Grattan that weekend. Too bad, for those of you who might have wanted to try a different track (and one that is even more fun than GingerMan IMHO)...

Ken, will you be able to take your car out for the slow drive at lunch at Gratten like last year?
Be able to? Assuming that they do the parade laps, yes, I would be able to. But I don't usually bother...

I meant me.... :)
Last year Jeff drove my car around and then they flagged us in before I got a chance to drive. I'd like to just go around slow for the heck of it since I'm not doing that school. As you know, I'm starting my track experience here where it will be easier than Gratten.

They usually allow anyone (including non-drivers) to drive around in the parade laps at lunchtime. Occasionally the schedule gets squeezed (due to the track closing for an incident or weather) and they cancel it, but such instances are rare.

Just wondering who is staying in a hotel near the Track Sunday night. It's still up in the air for me I have to get a small problem sorted out before I can Track the car hope to have it done by then.

Several attendees tend to use the Lighthouse (Guesthouse) Inn on Phoenix Road (by the CITGO / Big Boy) on Sunday nights. Cruise the parking lot and you'll recognize some of the cars, particularly for the 9/13 event.

Hopefully you can get your car done (and down) in time for the CGI event-- I think we've got over a dozen NSXs (!)

I'll be around that weekend, instructing with another club Sat - Sun. Haven't made hotel plans YET though.

I would love to tag alone too..

Just sent in my app.
Hope it's not full.....

Just got done watching 2 Wheel Tuesday on Speed. Next week they are having a feature on M Jordan at Gingerman with his Bikes etc. So anyone who has not been there yet including myself you might want to catch it and check the Track out it is on at 7pm CST Aug 31. ;)

Just out of curiosity, those of you who posted here that you are coming, what group (experience) would you consider yourself in? This will be my first time ever on a track so I'm guessing I'm a beginer... :)

This will be my first time on a real track. I was told they only have openings in the novice group,(which i am, I think) :D

I can't wait, my NSX has been sitting all summer. :(

Advanced (have done some instructing at Gingerman with newbies only)

This is an excellent track to be on, to have your first track experience. It is NOT high speed like Road America. It has about 30 mph slower straights. It also has tons of wide open grass in case of a spin. And the people are the best!!!!
