Re: bLodisign Front Signal Covers-Ready to order!

blodi,

As a note of caution, I installed mine when they arrived then put my car in storage. I took my car out of storage the other day to take some pictures with and without the lens covers installed. It was a cold day and one shattered when I removed it. I only got to enjoy them on my car for about 8 miles. I am not blaming anyone. I like the fit and the look. I just hope I can save someone else from making the same mistake that I did.

I am sorry to hear about this. Was it the lens itself? Were yours tinted? The tinted seem to be a bit more fragile than the clear. And yes, the cold certainly amplifies it. I will see if the supplier can line up a different material that is less brittle. Let me know what side and piece was broken and I'll do my best to replace it when I get more in from the supplier.

ditto... actually i was putting mine on for the first time and both cracked ha! 80$ down the drain

Re: bLodisign Front Signal Covers-Ready to order!

Man, I apologize for this guys. I have had my set of tinted ones on and off 20-30 times and never had an issue. I contacted the supplier and they are looking into a different material to use for the tinted ones now.
When/if they track down a new material and cut me new sets of tinted covers, I am going to have them cut me a few extra pairs of lenses. So those who have tinted lenses that have broken, and I haven't already replaced them, I will send you one or two of the new material lenses if you cover the shipping cost.
I want everyone to be happy with these and not feel like they wasted money. I wanted to make these to help out the NSX crowd with a part I always wanted but thought was ridiculously overpriced elsewhere, I am certainly not in it for the money. I will keep this thread updated with developments on the tinted ones.

The same happened to my tinted ones as well. Actually it happened to me after the 3rd time I tried to remove them and clean behind them. Now both are cracked. If you remember I bought one of each, a pair of tinted ones and a pair of clear ones. I have yet to install the clear ones yet. Please keep us updated on the tinted ones made from a different material. I would take you up on your offer to pay for shipping for a new set of tinted ones when they're available.

Re: bLodisign Front Signal Covers-Ready to order!

I had this happen as well and Blodi was really cool in supplying me with a replacement set which *gulp* also cracked when I tried installing them. I am thinking the plastic does not take well to compressive forces as they both broke where the screws are fastened. I'm probably going to see if I can have a set made locally using Blodi's set as a pattern, and then use rubber washers on all the screw attachment points to absorb some of the compressive stress.

I don't blame Blodi at all, and actually feel bad for him as its not easy to develop a part for this car only to have it fail based on something he has little control of (quality of plastic available). Everything for the NSX is done in small production numbers with us all having to (like it or not) be beta-testers for them. I doubt Civic owners have issues like this

Re: bLodisign Front Signal Covers-Ready to order!

No updates yet on the tinted ones, the supplier is still looking for a new material to work with. I haven't forgotten about you guys though.
I thought I would post some pics of the earlier painted ones I posted now that I have my car off stands again.
The red one...

..and a lighter tinted set I did for myself, just a few light coats of the tinting spray...

Not that anyone has told me or that I have seen, only the tinted. I am going to contact the supplier again today and see what the latest is on new tinted material.
The clear ones are made from the same material as the tabs are...and the tabs can be completely bent as they are and hold the shape without breaking. So the goal is for the supplier to find that same material in tinted form.

Can you power wash the car with the lens covers on? I go through a completely touchless car wash sometimes, but the water jets are fairly strong.

I am wanting the clear lens so I can play around with different colors.. How hard is it to remove the model paint and repaint (tint) the covers?

don't think you'll be able to remove the paint... maybe try using window tint that way u can peal it off after... unless there's a way to remove the paint without damaging the clear plastic

Correct, when I did mine, I sanded and painted them, I haven't tried removing the paint. Maybe it would be possible with some paint thinner or something? but that would probably make the material foggy.
I agree with ROY, if you can find some window tinting material in different colors, that would probably be best.

On a related note, the supplier said they got a new material for me to come in a check out. I'll try to get there this week and if I like what I see...I'll have some more tinted ones shortly. I'll give it a "durability" test myself to see if its breakable.

Re: bLodisign Front Signal Covers-Ready to order!

My car is Spa yellow. I bought Blodi's covers last week and used yellow film on the inside to make them transparent yellow. I had to disassemble the lenses (easy) and used transparent tint from rvinyl.com ($13). It came out great and is reversible.

:eek:That looks great! Nice color match! Thanks for posting the pic and the link. Might have to try that myself! You have quite the creative touch between the diffuser and these!

I usually take mine off before I wash the car..they are not air tight, therefore, water will get behind them...but it will not get trapped in there....they will eventually dry out fairly quickly. But as far as strength...I would say they could handle it.

Re: bLodisign Front Signal Covers-Ready to order!

The supplier got me a sample of the new material they found that shouldn't break. However...it is not as tinted at the old material. I scanned in a sample of the new and old. In person I would say its about half the tint of the old material. The scan makes the difference look a bit greater....
Keep in mind they would look a bit darker most likely on the car as no light is behind them.
I told them I would get the people's opinion before I kicked them off on another batch with this material. They said they exhausted all their resources looking for this material...so really I have no other option to offer at this point, but wanted to get feedback from you guys....so let me know!
Also, if you wanted them to be darker, there are options as mentioned above such as the spray tint or even vinyl tint like Dawk posted.

Re: bLodisign Front Signal Covers-Ready to order!

I took the sample out yesterday too look at it on my car. It looks like it is just slightly lighter tint than the ones I tinted myself above on my car. I think I am going to go ahead and get a batch done with this new material since it is all that really is out there for what we all are looking for. I'll get a few extra pairs of lenses for those who have broken them. You will need to replace both lenses since this is a lighter tinted material. So I will charge $20 for a replacement pair of lenses just to cover some of the costs of shipping and getting the material.
Again if you want them darker yet, you could get the tinted vinyl mentioned above. But the good thing is that this new material should not have any cracking issues!

Any updates on these yet?

Re: bLodisign Front Signal Covers-Ready to order!

Sorry I haven't updated on these in a while. When the supplier finally got the tinted material in and started cutting it they took a closer look at the material and found it had a lot of dirt actually in the material, so it was no good.
So they are back hunting again for a new stronger tinted material.
I apologize this is taking so long, its completely out of my control at this point. I was waiting til I had better news to update with. Hopefully they are able to locate something soon.

Re: bLodisign Front Signal Covers-Ready to order!

UPDATE! TINTED ARE BACK IN STOCK!
Just got some new style tinted ones in stock. These are a lighter tint than the previous ones. I will try to get some on my car today and post pictures later for everyone to see how they compare. However, these are a different material that won't crack like the previous ones. If yours cracked, I can send you a pair of replacement lenses (no mounting tabs or hardware) for $20 shipped. You will need the pair so they match. Just send paypal payment to [email protected] for the replacements. If you want a whole set just order them through the site. I tried to PM everyone back that PMed me on these. If I missed you somehow, I apologize.
