Scenario:

You don't have any sports cars. You have a Toyota camry for a daily driver. You can ONLY choose between a brand new Nissan GTR (R35) or a brand new 2005 NSX (US-spec targa).

Which do you choose?

And don't bring up the apples to oranges retort; sometimes you have to choose if you want to eat an apple or an orange.

The GTR looks too much like a normal sports car. It reminds me of a 350Z.

For me, I would go with the NSX over a GTR.

If I was a newb sportscar buyer new to the scene, I would be tempted by the latest hotness. I'd go GTR if price was the same. The #'s is what would of sold me especially since GTR test drives wouldn't be allowed and dealership prejudice would of prevented them from letting me test drive the NSX. Yes, I know #'s mean sh!t in many ways, but when you have no idea of that or an opportunity to experience it, #'s sell.

But I hate the AWD understeer/push and I had to have RWD when I was shopping initially. That's what swayed my move to nsx. Dealership prejudice is another reason why I bought my nsx from a private party. I REALLY wanted a newer Porsche 911 C2 Cab, but they wouldn't even let me start up the engine OR take me for a "test ride" in it.

Tuff question....looks vs performance....I chose looks since it comes with a little performance built in hehe. Im just not a big fan of the GT-R's looks. The specs look good...but not enough to win me over.

Not sure what kinda AWD cars you are driving but a STI / EVO does not have this problem, I think it's great how one of the guys says his EVO kills his modded GT2 on a roadcourse with 4k put into the evo :)

Speaking of GTR, I just got an invite to a preview at SF international auto show.

"ZONC has received a special invitation from Nissan to attend a preview
showing of the GT-R at the San Francisco International Auto Show at
the Moscone Center on Wed., Nov. 28. This will be only the third
time that the car has been shown worldwide. ZONC will meet at the
Nissan display at 4:30 p.m. The GT-R will be unveiled around 5:30
p.m. After the unveiling, the GT-R will be on
display at the Auto Show until Dec. 2.
Nissan is restricting promotion of this event and there will be no
advance advertising of it

I guess I'll check it out since I'm still an active ZONC member.

Looks(real supercar), thrill (proper 6sp + RWD), value (you will sell NSX in 10 years much better than GTR), reliability and...being a Honda :) GTR is only faster, and thats all :) If I would like faster I would get Ariel Atom for half the money :)

GTR reminds me of my wife's G35 coupe on Steroids. It got my attention at first, but then the fire died out. It really looks like a $40K coupe rather than a $70K-$80K sports car. The back is so ugly.
The GTR was a consideration before we settled on an 05 NSX. Needless to say.... very very happy with the NSX.

IMO the R35 is striking, and no question it's very quick and has very advanced AWD (but the weight penalty that comes with it). That being said, the lack of a proper manual transmission is a monstrous drawback to me (and others apparently), and similar to what areout said, if they don't make it in limited #'s then it will depreciate like anything else, whereas the NSX isn't and hopefully won't. That's if you care about such things.
Still want to test drive the crap out of one though

I prefer RWD and besides the styling of the GTR will die down in couple of years just like the G or the Z. So needless to say I'd pick the NSX. However, I may not be too completely happy with the purchase as I want a coupe not a targa.

What about being slow, having less HP then a honda accord, 2 seats, no paddles, now AWD, no 192 MPH. Looks dont matter to me that's why I sold my NSX and bought a evo years ago. I want something fun to drive. If you want to look cool get a Ferrari not a NSX but I want a car I can track and have a good time with everyday. 290 HP sucks, it was good 15 years ago but Honda screwed up on not upping the NSX to 400ish so I will go somewhere else. Also who buys a car for resale? If that is what you are worried about get a $2,000 beater and just leave it when it stops running.

Heck, I'll join in on the debate.

I'm the kind of person who changes cars very frequently (so it's amazing that I've had mine for a year and a half) so I will say that I would take the GTR if I had never purchased my NSX. After 6 months of ownership, I would then get the 05 NSX :)

That's a new one, spend much time dating?

I dunno Ryanmcd2 is entitled to his opinion, he has issues with the NSX and got an EVO more power to him if he is getting what he wants out of it. The reverse of it for me would be that I wouldn't be caught dead in an Evo regardless of how fast or how much hp it had, but thats just me. I didn't buy my car to play in the horsepower wars. I bought the NSX to stand out from every other vette, camaro, mustang, wrx, evo, Z, m3, or Porsche that you see cruising around Southern Cal. Again nothing against those cars, but I refuse to be another lemming in a "me too" car.

I will say that his comment about look cool get a Ferrari thing was kind of interesting and I should add, maybe the person wanted to look cool and have a reliable car thats easy to maintain and won't break the bank if something does go boom.

I had a NSX for 5 years. I guess the new group of NSX owners are looking to impress people with it. I can buy any car made, any car. I got a evo. Different strokes for differnt folks. Sure it's strange not to buy the most you can affored and 90% of the people do this. As I have posted before I go off-road in the evo, track it, push my trash can down the driveway and really it's one less thing I have to worry about. I don't need the attn I am smart, look good and funny and that seems to work fine :)

I don't like either choice. What kind of grocery store are you in that only sells two fruits? What about a 917?

Seriously, can't say- I haven't seen/driven a GTR yet but if it is close to a newer EVO/STI... I would think it might be more 'fun' for the street but once again- over the long haul the NSX I would give the props for best long haul stable mate. I am also preferential to the ME NA / 6spd layout and longer wheelbase.

One half dozen of another, different strokes for different fokes...wayyyy too much depends on driver and what you are looking to get out of the car to depend on what other forum users think.

If you need a car to get laid you need to hit the gym.

Actually i'm married, and I definitely spend more time working out than I do driving the NSX, but you probably didn't mean me specifically. Anyway I was being funny (or not  ), what I meant was that I have never heard a single person say that looks do not factor whatsoever into their car choice. The ability to push my garbage can down the driveway is also not on my list of criteria. You sound like someone who likes to beat their car up, and if that's the case..then yes the NSX is definitely not for you man. Like NSXrunner, I also would not be caught dead in an Evo, but I respect your choice and your right to that choice. I don't really understand the 'less HP than an Accord' comment from you though, my car has no problem keeping up with brand new Corvettes, or Evos for that matter.
Bottom line? I have much respect for NSX's, and for the upcoming R35 and all its technogoodies, no need to bash either, and that's not what the TS asked for.

997 Turbo killer for half price? Yes please.

I don't think the pictures of this car do it justice. I'm expecting it to be a car that when you see it up close and in real life it will wow you with its presence.

That being said, i do wish it had a 6 speed. I think it would be really cool for the first week of being able to have perfectly rev-matched downshifts and hard, fast, upshifts; but after that I think it would be much more satisfying to get those perfect heel-toe downshifts yourself... even if its 8/10th of a second slower than the computer could do.

You think an evo is more fun to drive than a 2005 NSX? wow.... I have driven my friend's evo and I can't even begin to equate the two cars. He owns an evo and always wants to drive my car.

You are putting the NSX down because it has no "paddles"??? You mean like that mistubishi outlander? Why did you even keep your NSX for five years? And I don't mean this in any insulting way, I am just curious... if you hated the car so much why are you on nsxprime years after having sold your NSX?
