Still messed up that the NSX specialists had no idea this was going on.

To vent some of my frustration, I will reveal my info regarding why it took a month to get Hendrick his car, after the BS line off celebration.

The shipping procedure had not been validated. Apparently the responsibility fell to a shipping department and as usual with this program, there was a lack of adequate coordination.

One would think that at a company as large as Honda, they have some planning software and a SharePoint site for folks to access plan files.

As someone who remembers Hyundais from the late 80's and early 90's as being hunks-o-junk (and they were), it pains me to admit that I'm looking at a 2G Genesis sedan as a potential next daily driver. Hyundai has come a long way and is, frankly, eating Acura's lunch, stealing its lunch money, and kicking it in the teeth. But that's another topic for another thread. Sorry for the threadjack.

Indeed. My favorite thing about the Hyundai is that you fill it with non premium gas(87)octane... Premium fuel makes absolutely no difference in performance. Therefore, all the B.S. Claims from Honda/Acura of being fuel efficient, goes right out the window when filing with 87 octane. Yes, I went there, Honda has terrible fuel efficency cars. I have owned them, German cars, American cars, and now Korean cars...... Acura takes the cake in fuel hogging.
With very little power I might add...

A friend of mine's car was stolen in the 1980s. People he told about it asked what kind of car it was, and when he'd say it was a Hyundai they'd get an incredulous look and ask why anyone would steal that.

For example; A Hyundai 5.0 NA V8 makes 429 hp on regular gas... The Equus weights like 2 freaking tons... It gets 15 city and 23 highway. A 2017 Nsx with all those electric do dads, premium fuel, premium price, etc, gets 21 city and only 22 highway? Ummm what the hell? And that is on premium fuel.... Sorry to derail the thread. I love the car, but the direction it is going in is pure failure in my opinion. Just thinking out loud here guys.

Does Hyundai suggest you can run 87 or 91 in the engine?

It's a modern engine so likely has an antiknock sensor.
I guess if you were running 87 octane and it sensed knocking it would automatically retard the timing to save the engine.

I asked these same questions prior to purchasing. After I bought the car, I had about 2 free full fill ups of gas. The car came with 87 octane. The next two tanks I filled with 91 octane which is the highest us treehuggers in California can get. It made ZERO difference.... I fill with 87 always now. It even says in the owners manual that only 87 octane is needed.
I set out to purchase an Accord. But when I compared the Hyundai's to the Honda's the decision was clear. Either have a tiny engine with ZERO power, or pay a few grand extra for knock off Korean luxury with rear wheel drive and a V8. I cannot stand front wheel drive cars and I agree with B and Bio that it is Honda's Achillies heel. Overall I am extremely happy with my purchase. I have a high powered luxury sedan with every single option you could ever think of for only a few thousand more than a fully loaded accord. I love Honda's, but after swimming in other pools it becomes clear that they are not really cutting edge on anything. The new Nsx, definitely cutting edge. However, I am not a celebrity so I will never own one. I really wish Honda would get that.... Even still, I have the Nsx sleeping soundly in the garage and it is not going ANYWHERE!_

He checks with the NSX call center, and provides us with the latest info.
Then we discuss all that.
Then there's a lag before the next update.
That's when we discuss Hyundai's.

I am thinking that production is gummed up again. Nothing much showed up on Cars.com this week. They should be burping out at least 10 cars per week and 4-6 should new ones should then appear on cars.com for at least a brief period.

All signs point to some serious issues with quality/consistency in production--- well beyond the expected ramp-up glitches. They must have hit some snags that have persisted despite intense focus/effort and several failed attempts to resolve. Perhaps a design flaw in a component that they are having to compensate for with some manual retrofitting and car-by-car testing/validation.

I am struggling to think of another explanation for the combination of delays AND uncertainty as to when production will ramp. If this were not a safety issue or was something that could be swapped out at dealer level in a subsequent campaign, I think they would just ship the cars with the flaw. Since they haven't, I think it must be something more fundamental that cannot be retrofitted later at dealer level.

Bummer. I'm sure Honda/Acura are super frustrated with this, but can't exactly announce "We screwed up and we don't yet know how to fix it. Stay tuned." So they have elected to be silent. But, to me, the silence sounds exactly like "We screwed up big time, and don't know how to fix it."

Sigh.

Stopped at dealers yesterday to check in since I was in the area. In our talks they indicated they "believe" that the hiccups have been (mostly/finally) worked out and things "should be" moving on better now. Also said wave 1 orders are essentially complete and wave 2 in process. I'm in wave 3 which I thought was last but was told 4 is last, plus I "may" have my car sooner than previously thought... what ever that means. I'm still guessing ~ mid Oct at this point. We'll see.

Guess that is why they said "essentially" vs actually. Hopefully if you are Sept (vs a surprise earlier) it will be Sept 1!

I'm in midst of major home mods/upgrade and actually don't want the distraction of the car... just yet anyway. I need at least a month (w/o distractions) to complete some portions, and then a little time to get ready for it... aka shuffle some things to make a space.

I doubt the factory botched matching the paint on the two pieces. There's a slight corner there, i.e. the two surfaces are not parallel where they join, so they present a different angle to the viewer. The look of these pearl colors varies with with the viewing angle and I suspect that accounts for the color difference seen at around 0:16 in the video. Whether or not it is acceptable is a matter of taste; some people like the variation of color that pearls give, some don't.

You are right about pearl colors and the surfaces not being parallel. I guess that's the reason. On the left rear it seems better. But as pearl colors are $$$$ and the chassis for example is built with the (unneeded) accuracy of 1/?? mm (don't recall exactly but it has been pointed out) they should be able to design the car in the way the surfaces ARE parallel GIVEN they are offering pearl colors, at least in a $200k car. I know that plastic parts 'live' but there are ways of doing it but it adds labor and costs.

Whether or not it is acceptable is a matter of taste; some people like the variation of color that pearls give, some don't.

'Flowing' variations of pearl colors are desired BUT a sharp edge of difference (not variation) would have been very disappointing for me if I had ordered a pearl color in such a car. But I'm a little bit different here as my car would be driven often. So the chances it needs some paint here and there from time to time are higher than with a garage queen. The bodyshop will have a hard time to match an 'effect' color. Even though I admire pearl colors I would not choose one for mine.

I was at a show yesterday and yet again 50% of the comments were about loving the color.

At night and under artificial light everything that is great about the paint is multiplied by 5.

I could not be happier with the paint or the color I chose.

You cant accurately capture paint like this on any kind of recording. As good as it looks in pictures and on video its much better in person.
