was wondering what the top speed of a modified NSX goes? also looking for max HP info as I saw not to long ago that the NSX was trying to break 11's. im looking for a really fun car as I'm young and need a big thrill. I just dont think im to fond of going out to get beat by evey supra and EVO out there, still not sure about these NSX's. Is 99-00 a good year for maxing out a NSX, or do you suggest a certain year thats better to go with? thanks alot, looking forward to becoming hooked on the "NSX craze" thanks again

How young are you?

If you don't want to get beat by every Supra and EVO out there, then the NSX is the wrong car for you.

Look for a Z06 or something.

Good luck.

I agree, if you're going to get a 99-above NSX and want a car just based on speed then get a Z06 or something that is more affordable and has a bigger market for mods.

I don't know what the limiting factor as far as drag and gearing go with regard to the NSX's top speed, but stock ones are limited by power (all cars are limited by drag) at around 171 - 176 MPH. My '93 has run faster downhill without any loss in stability. If you're looking to do heavy mods, you're probably better off with an older model ('91-94). They are less expensive initially and there is a greater aftermarket for the 3.0L OBDI setup.

All Supras will be faster because nobody leaves those beasts stock. Evos have the jump off the line, but you'll destroy them in class and style (not to mention top end). The NSX is not a slow car! With simple NA upgrades (I/H/E) you'll be looking at around ~270+ rwhp. That coupled with it's light weight and mid-engine layout make it very quick, agile, and fast around the twisties. As far as stock strait line performance is concerned, the NSX is very similar to the C5 corvette. You might find this article of interest. Check out this thread too.

Check out the FAQ here at prime and do some searching. You'll find that the NSX does not make its living on the drag strip, but despite that, it is one of the finest cars ever built and one of the best driving experiences money can buy.

To other NSX owners, please feel free to correct any mistakes I made.

Why do you care about top speed? Are you looking for acceleration or top speed? Two very different things. NSX top speed stock will be much higher than either a Supra (governed at 155mph) or EVO. Modified top speeds are just dependant on who spends the most $$$.

Fact of the day: Theoretical NSX-R top speed is lower than a normal NSX due to lower gearing.

for your uses you probably want to find a 91 for $25000
throw about $15k-$20k at it
your done =)

I'd say the nsx is the wrong car for you based off what you are looking for. You would be spending at least 20-30K more to get anywhere near what you are looking for.

thanks guys for all the info, i might lean another direction, I'm just intrested in the NSX as there a rare treat for the eyes but I'll just have to keep thinking about it. thanks alot for all the repsonses

beauty & brawn...

You really can't blame the kid(s)... the NSX is a damnnn sesky fyneee-a$$ car. . . People want it all, be the fastest & look the bests' while at it!

oh one other question, why the 91-01. I know you say the 3.0 has more options but what is the diffrence in a 91 compared to a 99? i thought they did a "big" change on the 99 and ups? thanks again

Sounds like C5/Z06 + procharger to me.

Try the FAQ's, there's a wealth of information there. And don't forget the "Search" for topics you have a keen interest in!

'91-'94: flip-up lights, 3.0L 270bhp coupe, 5spd or 4gear-AT ~252bhp
'95-'96: flip-up lights, 3.0L 270bhp T-top, 5spd or 4-gear-AT ~252bhp
'97-'01: flip-up lights, 3.2L 290bhp T-top*, 6spd or 4-gear-AT ~252bhp (*coupe very rare)
'02-'05: fixed-lights, 3.2L 290bhp T-top, 6spd or 4-gear-AT ~252bhp

Does he mean top speed downhill and with the wind?

i think what he means is....
"what is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow????"

It's been broke, and you can do it too. But, you'll be broke by doing so.

You're not ready, grasshopper.

I get asked this by young kids, and people who dont know much about cars all the time.

"Whats the top speed" ?
"whats the fastest you got it up too"?

Etc.

I try to keep my cool and calmly tell them, I didnt buy this car to do top speed runs. The fastest I have taken it up to is 120mph, and I have no reason to try and go faster than that.

I think this thread needs the following:

dude..the nsx top speed is more than you will ever need to hit. Modified or not, the gearing determines the top speed, whether drag limited or not if you feel the need to go above 167 miles an hour maybe you should look at buying a bike.

satan, I know my bike topped out a 161. but I cant get another bike so my options are a little limited. I was just wondering as I would like to get clostest to the 200 mark as possible. I know a skyline can do it but who wants the hassle of importing that beast. I hear RUFS can get up to 215 around that range, so I might again change my mind once more, thanks for the suggestion though

I wouldn't worry about top speed if I were you... Sounds like you won't live long enough...
