All naturally aspired 3000GT's and Dodge Stealth's were front engine / front wheel drive. I have owned both a stealth and 3000GT. The Stealth R/T and 3000GT VR-4 were 4wd, Twin Turbo, and All wheel steering. I was serioulsy considering buying a VR-4 untill I saw the weight on it. Almost 4,000lbs.!!!!! Great cars though.

This changes my look on those cars completely.

I've gone through a number of cars as many of us have. Currently, along with the NSX, I have my daily driver (have to have AWD for winter)

Yes, all cars are forced induction, but only one makes over 800 hp to the wheels. No, it's not my NSX :p

Happy motoring,

Ben

Yeah, I was surprised when I heard that 3KGT's were FWD some years ago. My uncle finally got an SL version (220hp) and I had a chance to drive one. They really do handle like heavy pigs. At least compared to the other cars I've driven. ;)

Get this, the SOHC base version makes 160hp from a 3.0L...

You are right on with the heavy pig handling. The only benefit from FWD was the handling in the weather.

I also had a 1991 SOHC Stealth and couldn't believe that it was only 164HP??!! Thankfully not everybody knew how slow those cars were when I had mine.

Ben: Your Viper is absolutley stunning!!

Mich,

The European spec for the Mitsubishi 3000GTO (as known here) is 4WD, twin turbo. For all of them. Unless I am very wrong.

Like all Toyota Supras here are twin turbo, some countries had non-turbo options. We also get better Mitsubishi EVO's and Subaru's Impreza's. Oh and don't forget the BMW M3 is a real M3 in Europe! Seems like we get the best of everything!

I haven't checked into the latest ones, but didn't the Supras have just one big turbo? I remember driving one about 8 years ago and it had a lot of "big turbo" lag...

The 86.5 - 92 Supras had an optional turbo. The 93 - 97 had an optional twin-turbo motor. Methinks the newer ones are more than twice as fun as the older ones.

93.5+ Supras were available either TT or NA. A common mod is to convert over to a single turbo setup, normally resulting in 500+hp. Single turbo Supras command a premium price on the used car market. A clean and well done 94 or 95 single turbo can run well in the $30k range.

Sadly, I've never had the chance to use one. I pass my days away behind the wheel of a 1997 Sebring LXi coupe, dreaming of the time I can pilot a NSX down some of the roads that surround me. The 'bring is fun and all, but I wish I had an NSX to wake the corners up, to experience the bliss that comes from a well taken corner in a machine designed to carve the road up like a Thanksgiving turkey.

sigh...

I used to own a normally aspirated '95 Supra. One reason that I DIDN'T get the twin turbo is that they only came with a hideous huge wing, which the normally aspirated cars didn't have, except as an option. In my opinion, that car had a beautiful line, which the rear wing totally destroyed. Incidentally, the last generation Supra was a truly painful, twitchy car to drive long distances - especially when compared to an NSX. I traded a '91 Gen-2 MR2 Turbo in on my Supra, and that was the biggest mistake I've ever made in my sports car experience. The Gen-2 MR2 was fast, nimble and COMFORTABLE, as well as surprisingly spacious for a small mid-engine 2 seater. A much more capable performance car than the newer MR-2, IMHO, because of the extra roominess, and the extra power. But it was a much more expensive car as well (selling for over $30K when it was discontinued in '95, the newer MR2 came out at $25K in '99)

Anyways, my sports car history:

'91 MR2 - I should have kept this instead of the '95 Supra
'82 Porsche 928 (bought for $4K in '96, kept till I got my 1st NSX)
'91 Supra - Bought for $5K in '00 as a car to drive in bad areas.
'95 Supra - Sold when I got my 1st NSX
'95 NSX (a red one that I flipped over in '01, but walked away)
2001 MR2 Spyder - my economy commuter car
2002 AMG E55 - for when I need to carry 3 or more people
'95 NSX (a black one that I intend to keep right-side up)

The last 3 of these are what I currently own
