What is Honda F1's problem?

Re: A new low

Tired of the McClaren fine/Alonzo-Hamilton scrap/spy scandal bruhaha? How about this for a fresh batch of crap? :frown:

I notice no one is posting, so maybe we're all done with this Honda season and should close this thread?

I never understood why Honda didn't simply use last year's car like the Aguri team is doing once they realized that RA107 is absolute crap. Clearly they have better drivers, as Button and Barrichello have obviously won and spent plenty of time on the podium in the past, but the car is absolutely horrendus.

I find it humorous that they wouldn't allow Aguri to use a successful wing design essentially because they didn't want to get beaten by them... Pretty rare that a customer team is consistantly fighting for position with their parent team, heh.

Oh well, they supposidly have a new design / setup for the Jerez test, and have high hopes that they'll look better at Fuji. Only time will tell... Maybe we can get past Aguri, lol.

That's bad sensationalist reporting. Couple things:

* what once was the RA106 is now SA's intellectual property and as such they can run whatever wing or aero mods they want to. To say Honda mandates SA's aero is inviting the wrath of the FIA.
* Both Hondas were on a one stop strategy and heavy on fuel. Even so, Button was ahead of Sato by 7-9 seconds in the early laps. The pass happened after Button pitted and two laps before Sato went in for fuel and tires. So when Sato came out again, the lead Honda (Button) was way out in front again. IIRC, over 17 seconds.

That said, the RA107 does suck monkey nuts. Still, even the slower Barrichello came out ahead of both Super Aguris at the finish.

Re: Absolutely much, well sort of, kind of better..Really. You believe me don’t you?

Let’s read between the lines:
“Rubens Barrichello was pleased with the performance of the revised Honda RA107 car that made its debut at Jerez in testing on Tuesday.

……Barrichello praised (well hallelujah……..right??) the car's improvements, ……… but the new machine is not a massive step forward.
"It was better…..really it was the best time we have ever done ……. so I think we should be happy with that," (I’m trying to get excited, really I am.)
"I am not quite sure what other drivers said, but the track was very very bad in the morning, no grip. (uh, I hope Spyker said it was bad too. Tell me again, what am I supposed to say?)
"It got better in the afternoon but there was this wind factor, so the improvement was not so massive. (Wind factor, yeah that’s it…..We never know which way to aim the wind in the tunnel)
"But nevertheless it was positive and, compared to Spa, it was way better. It was very difficult in Spa. (Spa makes you figure stuff out) But I am still concerned the numbers in the wind tunnel did not come up on the track, (this wind tunnel game is such a crap shoot) but it (the car) has more downforce………… I guess." (I’m guessing because I don’t remember what downforce feels like)

Anyone else quivering with excitement?

I'm glad Barrichello feels so confident about the new setup... lol.

Oh well boys. There's always the RA108. :(
He is taking that set up to SAF1 Next season after Honda dump his ass from the factory team.

Re: Even I wouldn't have it !!

Good one !!! Reubens would be too embarrassed  to take that set up to a Soap Box Derby team !!!

You're probably right, Honda may well dump him as they start to rebuild, but he should be glad to be out of there. Wonder if he would like to drive a 'cab' with Juan Pablo and Jacques?

:frown: It's no secret Honda have been grooming Sato for years...I'm afraid poor Rubens is going to get the short end of the stick on this one. He's old, his best days are behind him...he'll be in the same boat as Coulthard soon. STR/Spyker/terrible new team are the only places I see Rubens soon.

All I know is Honda had better get that RA108 together. If things don't change I suspect Button would jump ship mid-season. Time is running out for him and he knows it. There should be plenty of quality seats opening up in 2008. If Renault can get back in shape for 08 I could see Button replacing Fisi;

McLaren might have a seat opening up as well... If Button has a shot at it I'd say he ought to take it.

That's going to be an interesting one. If McLaren does have a seat open who would they want to take it? Rosberg, Heidfeld and Kubica clearly round out the list of the best drivers right now but it looks like all three aren't going anywhere and their respective teams are going to hold onto them with both hands. I think both BMW and Williams are competitive enough to keep them satisfied. Button might be the best driver who would even entertain leaving his current team.

The only chance for Button to win a championship at this point is to get on the best team. He's not getting any younger and he's already shown he has no issues bolting from teams. If the RA108 doesn't prove to be a winner out of the gate I wouldn't expect Button to stick around very long. With Fukui and the "demoted" Nakamoto still running the show Honda isn't demostrating any burning desire to be world-class. If I were Button I'd still be perplexed and infuriated as to why it took Honda 3/4 of a season to figure out the aero package. I wouldn't have a lot of faith in Honda's ability to improve on the fly during the season anymore. If he's not in Q3 in the first two races of 08 my guess is he's outta there.

Honda would really be screwed, too, as they would be forced to retain Rubens and stick Sato in there prematurely.

Honda F1 was/is a joke. Next gen NSX is/will be a joke, Acura flagship RL is a joke. Remind me again why I consider myself a Honda guy. Oh yeah, 1991 - NSX and F1 championship. Now isn't that just pathetic.:frown:
