my dad has been a porsche guy all his life. i really dont remember how many hes had, 7(?) or something. his latest was a 1985 911. beautiful car. sure the clutch was long and kind of stiff, the gearbox was sloppy and the shifts were long, the a/c was terrible, seemed like it took forever to warm up, stereo sucked and i could go on, but when it came to handling it was amazing. it accelerated smoothly and the handling, did i mention that? in his nsx i can get on it around a corner and the TCS limits my fun, the 911 just seemed like it powered through the corner. i might be more agressive with the nsx than the 911 though. porsches, like all german cars have one things nsx's lack.....torque. its similar to the nsx where it has a really good top end and what not, but she got moving from the start if you wanted it to. ill try to find the video of his 911 in a minute. but enough of my incoherant rambling. my dad was originally going to buy a 993 targa, but the nsx changed his mind. i got the chance to drive a 993 but only around a neighborhood so i cant give a tiff needell review of it. ive never gotten to drive/ride in a 996 yet. the 993 wasnt that insanely impressive, i didnt get that undescribable rush of fun/fear/adrenaline/excitement that i did when i drove my dads 85, dont really get it in the nsx either.. i like the "cockpit" of the nsx better than the 993, seats are much nicer and seems more user friendly like you'd expect from honda. the 911, pre 996, seem to be utilitarian, if thats the word. i guess what im trying to say is the interior isnt what sells the car.
but if I owned a nsx, i think the next car i would shoot for would be a 996 turbo. its been my all time favorite. porsche has been my favorite car company and i would love to own one some day.
i think the 993 c4s would be a nice car to go with next, like the turbo without the power and some of the exterior stuff. just go drive one if you havent yet. like i said, i didnt get a chance to really drive it so i cant really compare. one thing i really like is how the interior in the 993 still has the older porsches gauges and such. i like how the tach is the biggest gauge and is in the middle, no fancy digital stuff. but i could talk porsches all day but this will be too long and ive got hw to do.
