Mileage Milestones & a warning regarding Social Media

I think most car values have a sharper dropoff right around 30k miles, followed by a more linear decline to 100k. I hope I'm wrong, but unless you bought a special one years ago, I don't think these cars will ever be better investments than a diversified index fund. That said, I don't think you'll lose money even if you bought in recently. My philosophy with this car is to enjoy it and take care of it. It's like owning art you can drive.

If you bought an NSX with monetary return in mind, you're missing the point, and even if it were explained to you, you wouldn't understand anyway, because you just simply don't "get it" about NSXs.

One can tell from my signature line as to how I feel on this topic...LOL!

😁

I didn't buy my NSX to be a garage queen, I bought it to drive and enjoy it. Never thought for even a minute about it as an investment. I drove daily for the first 9 years including monthly drives with our SoCal group here. I still drive almost every weekend as long as it isn't raining which isn't often here. It has 195k miles now with me putting 135K miles of smiles on it. If I wanted to walk by an NSX everyday in my garage to drive my 4Runner I would have just bought a poster of an NSX and hung it on the wall there. When I do finally sell it I'll be happy with whatever I get for it. At the end of the day it's a Honda and meant to be driven!!

I have another extreme as i bought my 92 in 93 and still only have 25k. My friends say "ohh- it's worth a lot now, or say "are you ever going to drive it?" I don't listen well. Do i try to keep my mileage down? Hell no, i'm just a lazy suburb guy who likes short drives and HATES the terrible traffic. Although there was that time i got hit by a trash truck in my X19 (we both survived well), so i may be a little over-protective of the X. The NSX is certainly not a good investment. I think some guys look for very low mileage cars simply because of it's lower chance of being bent at some point (ever crushed a pop can in your hand? he-he), especially since so many have to buy from a distance. As above mine will never be sold or as we say in the US midwest a "cold dead hands" car.

I remember in another thread post, a handful of years ago, where many were ragging on automatic transmission NSXs, then proceeded to attack someone who posted in defense of auto trans NSXs, and how they enjoy theirs so much, until said posting commentor enlightened the crowd that the reason he drives an automatic transmission NSX is because his left leg had been amputated just below the knee. You could have heard a pin drop louder than the crickets chirping as everyone realized that you never know another person's life story.

Personally, in addition to my 5-speed manual transmission NSX, I wouldn't mind having acquiring a second NSX, specifically one with an automatic transmission, just so I could enjoy more NSX driving, especially when traffic is heavy, because it gets to be a PITA to drive any manual transmission in stop & go traffic.

Very true! Some auto owners that I know have severe back issues and therefore are unable to depress a clutch pedal. Better an auto nsx than no nsx at all! Although there is one So Cal NSX owner, Shaida, that is an absolute mad man. He does not have functionality of his legs and gets around on a wheel chair, but he still drives a manual NSX by way of having retro fitted a hand clutch system from a go-kart or something like that. Truly remarkable when I saw it, because before I met him, we chatted online for a while, but never once did he mention his circumstance. Humble guy. I hope he is doing well!

It won't be from from pressing in the clutch as the reason to sell it "junior", it will from getting in and out of it ;)

My NSX has 102k on it. I bought it with 96k last summer and have enjoyed driving it every chance I get. I also own a 2007 GT3RS with 42k miles on it (bought it with 14k), a 993 with 145k miles on it (bought it with 75k) and a daily Land Cruiser with 260k on it (bought with 150k). Never miss an opportunity to take a drive. Values be damned. There are so many other ways to make money that you can allow yourself the fun of driving your car.
