Used 02+ Front Bumper, NA2 bumper for NA1?

Just wondering if there is an NA2 Style bumper for NA1 Cars. I was in a Custom Shop this weekend, and I have to admit that I like the triangular tract for the NA2 front bumper. Since I like keeping all my cars as stockish as possible I did some searching and consulting, and was given a positive answer in regards that this shop can retrofit the lower NA2 bumper to the NA1 Top bumper, of course some trimming and fiberglass work has to be done to the top to finish off the triangular edges, but it can be done.

Does anybody know of a good place to get a used front NA2 bumper. Also, I will see if he is in the mood to mold this part for those of you who would be interested. If I decide to do this it would be around June/July.

Check for a copy of the 02 bumper preferably in fibreglass form. From my experience if you want to fibreglass the used OEM 02 bumper which is plastic it won't stay good for long as plastic tend to flex when hot and this would break off the fibreglass work on it and you would see some crack line. Check science of speed website for the Tracy 02 replica. Maybe it is made of fibreglass.

I think you mean '02+ style bumper.

Note: NA2 does not mean 02+ fixed headlight models

NA2 is any car that is 97+. i.e '97-'05 & covers all the body style variants - coupes, T's, fixed headlight models (02+) etc.

.

My bad, I mean to fixed headlight bumper. But nice input on the plastic bumper, I will chat with the guy again, the thing is, that the center splitter if done in fiberglass might have to go, they mentioned it, unless they do that piece in fiberglass as well. They also stated that if done entirely in FG, a mesh would be installed, painted black to preserve originality, but knowning myself, it won't be original enough.

I know what most of you are thinking, but I am rather fond of the Pop-ups.

OK, I just did, I will take this to the shop, from looking at this FG Replica I think it might be easier to work with this bumper. I guess they will mold the NA1 bumper and then cut & paste the rest of this one. Nice bumper SOS.

Paul

PS-Anybody have any high quality and resistant meshes? All I've seen are cheap and very flexible (highly rusty) meshes.

OK, so I'm kinda back to where I started from. The Shop says, that they think the SOS Replica Bumper is too expensive. They themselves are gonna contact some used lots they know in search of a 2002+ Front bumper. They also state that their craftmanship is guaranteed and that the "conversion" using my stock bumper won't crack. They told me, the shop owner, that a FG 2002 bumper would be around 450.00, unpainted.

He has molds from everything from 1992+ M3 kits, to AMG Kits, to Esprit and Ferrari updates. His specialty is fiberglass work. Will try to get some pics soon on some stuff: He is making an Elenor (Mustang) for a customer. Not a fan of American Cars but do like that Mustang.

Cheers,

Paul

Good Luck finding a used 2002+ one from a breakers. A little naivety on the body shop regarding knowledge of the NSX and the numbers of cars out there. There are few enough '02+ cars relative to previous years, let alone any in a salvage yard, coupled with the fact that the front end had to survive the collision that 'totaled' it. Chances I would say are extremely remote.
A new one lists at $775 (lower half only) so could possibly be had for ~$580 (at -25%) from one of the Acura e-spares supplier (like Ray Laks & others).
I would not call the SOS complete bumper expensive by any stretch (if doing a fixed headlight conversion) however I would note that it has the 'depressions' for the fixed headlights that might look a bit odd unless these were brought back up to a flush contour. There would also have to be cut-outs created for the combination lights.
As to integrating fiberglass onto a urethane component, I'm not sure how successful that will be - I'd really be concerned about the different material characteristics re flex & expansion. I'll leave judgment on that to some pro body experience however - where's pbassjo?

Personally, I didn't state that S0S's bumper is expensive, I don't mind paying their price for the 2002+ look, I'll just keep the forum informed on what i'll be doing after all the options have been evaluated.

Hi Paul, I am interested to know what happened to your project.

Like you, I am also a fan of the 2002 front bumper and the pop-up lights (reminiscent of Knight Rider I guess :-) I am planning to do this conversion as well. However, I am undecided whether to get the 2002 front bumper and do some modifications to it to accommodate the pop up lights or to just get a body shop to mold a 2002 bumper replica made of fibreglass in it's entirety.

Issues such as weight and durability comes into mind. How much is FG bumpers heavier than OEM?

Thanks for the info Evof575gtc. I was in touch with Peter before as I was interested in their DF-R wing, rear window garnish and side vents. However, he hasn't replied to my mail yet for quite some time now. Is he ill? Anyways, I will try to contact him again.

Cheers mate

I believe he's moving, or just recently moved, hence the delay.

Here is my project that is currently in process where a TAITEC Tracy Sports 2002 Factory Style Bumper has been converted to fit an NA1 with factory turn signals. Once the project is completed (scheduled for late October 2006) we will consider having it re-produced if there is adequate interest.

I don't know. I will see if the body shop has a scale to weight the OEM bumper and the customized Taitec Tracy Sports 2002 Factory Style Bumper.

Gentleman... Thanks, but as we all know Rome was not built in a day... Five weeks is just around the corner (project end date is scheduled for late October 2006)... BTW, a custom front lip is also being developed for the bumper, as an option to the OEM lip.

Thanks,

Mike

Mike,

This is looking really good and the fit looks good in the photo's. Is there any chance that your bodyshop could make as a two peice?? I'm looking to have the top half in body colour but to make the lower half in CF.

Would be interested in prices as your project develops (plus shipping to the UK please).

regards

Hey Mike,

Now that your car is in that stage, go ahead and cover the front side indicators, and install the new 02+ NSX-R type!

Paul

If you want a shattered one on the driver side, you can call my shop. It is propably fixable.
