Trans Short Gears - How To Tell?

Statisticly speaking I'm sure there are more old comptech 4.55 running around than OS Giken 4.44.

I really don't know which R&P I have. Maybe someone here had work done on their car at R M Racing in Scottsdale, AZ and they would know which R&P they used (they are no longer in business). Both seem to me to be very close as far as performance goes. I'd be happy either way.

My front tires are 215/40/17. I just replaced my suspension (which was OEM 1991 117,000 miles) with OEM from a 2000 with 15K miles. Made a big difference in ride and handling. Probably should have gone with a more agressive setup but most of my driving is through these Missouri hills and not on the track. This car is more than I had hoped for - a dream come true for this enthusiast!
Trailbrake fore more neutrality. You could go to a more aggressive track setup 235/40-17 front tire to reduce understeer. But for street/mountain driving, that understeer is probably safer.

FYI: Top Speed (8,000rpm in 5th gear with 275/35-18):

4.44 = 178mph
4.55 = 174mph

I was thinking of increasing my tire width in front when these tires wear out. 174 MPH - WOW! Now that will get you in trouble. My last ticket was 105 in a 55 and that cost me dearly. I got to get this car on the track :rolleyes:!
Thanks for all the input. This site has really been - well - insightful.

Subscribed...Driving Ambitions is currently installing my new short gears and 4.55 R&P this week. The numbers posted has given me an idea of what to expect (can't wait).

This is a theoretical top speed. The stock NSX is drag limited to ~168 mph. The larger tires are going to cause more friction, so your top speed with the stock HP and stock body will probably be less than 168 mph.

You can probably overcome that though with NAWZZ

Where on earth do I have to go to test this? The fastest I've been in a car (Porsche GT3) is 165mph. The track here in St. Louis doesn't have a long enough straight to reach top end and the cops here have no sense of humor at all!
