I don't doubt the car is fast or that the performance characteristics are quite astonishing. If the wing is absolutely essential then by my definition it isn't ricey. However, it is extremely hard to believe that a wing that size is needed. I don't think 1K hp automatically means holy crap guys we need the largest wing we can find now. There are 200mph cars without a giant wings. Yet I digress as I lack the effort to pursue the issue. As long as you say it needs it then well it does. I will take your comments as expert opinions as mine are not. For all I know you are an aerodynamics god and advise Ferrari on the strategies of wind tunnel experimentation. I would also assume that the owner of that red nsx is a genius for installing the behemoth wing as there is no other alternative to keep the wheels planted. Conclusion without giant wing NSX equals back to the future time traveler. Thank you for enlightening me.
The thing about the 200mph cars with no wings is due to the fact that the bodies are shaped for downforce and stability without the wing (or minimal wing), more so than the stock NSX. Look underneath a modern Ferrari and you'll see a completely sealed bottom, curvy diffuser tunnels, and many details designed to eliminate the need for a wing. Yet for the best lap times, you will see Ferraris in ALMS running wings because they need the additional downforce for better lap times.
The thing about a "big" wing is that you can run it at a much lesser angle of attack for lower drag while generating good downforce. With a small wing (width and height are often mandated by racing rules), you have to make up for the lack of wing area by cranking up the angle or use a more aggressive airfoil (cross-sectional shape). Then you are wasting power pushing the extra drag through the air.
99% of all guys with wings on their cars have never been to a single performance driving school let alone know how to race; so esentially, all that stuff is for show in just as "ricey" a way as many of the other mods we are talking about. I am not including Danny in this group obviously because of what he does with the car but just because a wing can have function it doesn't mean all of a sudden it needs to be on a car whose limits already are way beyond the driver (as this case for most NSX's, Ferraris, Lambos, Porsches).
I've seen that car at the Concorso Italiano, and frankly, I don't get it.
I saw the sharpie lambo in a magazine. The driver owns an exotic car dealer i believe.
I know Jin1976(?) once posted a pic of one of his buddys cars. Sorry, but that was easily the ugliest NSX I've ever seen!

The silver one with the LV type leather stiching is not exactly all that ricey. I think I saw that car for sale on Ebay not to long ago. Anyways, Ryan Woon from WOTM just had his seats done exactly like that. Do I like it, not really, but that is someone elses taste. Not a problem here.
The guy with the LED light in the engine bay with the 1 out of 4 cover. It doesn't look bad man,... I've seen worse. The LED light you said it turns on with a switch, very cool. Maybe in my MR2. Also, you shouldn't let people tell you what looks and doesn't look good in your car,... it's your taste and it's there for people to live with it. For example, I hate white NSX cars, especially the NSX Zanardi edition phony cars on this board. But hey, that's my opinion and I rather keep it to myself than to be a "douche drama look I'm right here everyone"!.. type of person.
