tint or no tint

If you have a black top the tint looks good.

nice ride michigan. im not diggin the rims that much though..

Michigan NSX,

I have a 93 that looks just like yours except I have chrome stock wheels (I'm working on changing that).

I like the triple black look, it has that menacing appeal that suits the NSX perfectly.

Here in socal, I have noticed that cops tend not to mess with you for tinted windows if you have a nice car.

When I had my civic with limo all the way around, I got 6 tickets in 4 months for tint.. with my lexus and NSX, I have never been pulled over once.. for either tint or no front plate. I was in Tustin the other day when a motorbike cop pulled up right next to me at the light. He looked the car over ( including the limo tint on the sides) and went about his way.

MichiginNSX,
Sick!!!......I like the mesh look type rims(work rezaxII), but those are pretty sick....what are those??? I likes:cool:

No Tint. - No thrilled with the "Ghetto" term...I think its more of a racer look. But not for me.

Crisp and Clean - But if I had a black car, it would be tempting.

Cheers!

Funny thing, I just got my nsx tinted couple days ago, so I guess you guys know where I stand on this topic.

Z,
I think tinting the top of the front windshield detracts from the clean and simple look more than even tinting all around. :)

I don't think many ppl here do mods, tinting etc, thinking that it is going to affect resale.

Wow - thanks for all the comments on my rims! (wasn't expecting that in a "tint" thread)

im not diggin the rims that much though..
Well, to each his own - no hard feelings here. :) But I have gotten many compliments on them (see below) and no one else has ever said they didn't like them before.

Sick!!!......I like the mesh look type rims(work rezaxII),...
I like the mesh look too, but those are a BUGGER to keep clean. The ones on my car clean up extremely easily (plus I wax them before they are stored for the winter so brake dust and dirt practically wipe right off of them).

but those are pretty sick....what are those??? I likes
Those ARE nice wheels! Tell us what they are!
Glad you guys like 'em. They are TSW REVO wheels. 18x8 in the rear and 17x7 in the front. Unfortunately they have been discontinued by TSW. :(

I used these same wheels (in a 16/17 combination and a differrent color center nut) on my Mr2Turbo. Here is a picture of both cars:

I say tint! My pic looks real dark(must be the light), but the windows are tinted with the lightest tint available and can pass for semi stock look. I wanted the heat rejection(90sumpin%) and the UV protection, versus the darkness. I tinted ALL the windows(law enforcement, please close your eyes), including the windshield. I found I liked the coolness of the interior, so I tint all my cars this way(only 2 others).

Anytime, that looks friggin awesome. I am in FL and you know how hot it is in august down here.if I go with the full coverage including windshield (love the look) and get popped by L/I what kinda fine and is it an easy matter to remove the tint without messing something up.I have never owned a car with aftermarket tinting and am a greenhorn on the matter
Best Regards David

I guess the saying is true, "to each his own." I don't feel like the top part of my windshield looks bad at all. Helps me hide things behind it adding to the clean look. And people don't even realize it's tinted since the cars already black. But ofcourse everyone feels differently, and that's totally respectable. ;)
And I also don't think tint really makes or breaks resale value unless it's a horrible job. :D

So THAT's why I couldn't get "NSX" vanity plate.

Re: Re: resale?

I tinted my front windows with the lightest tint available. You couldn't even tell it was tinted. I did it to block the UV rays and heat.

Tinting is so easily removed I really don't think it would have an effect on resale.

If you tint the rear window you might ruin the defroster lines if you attempt to remove it. I personally have walked away from cars because of this.

I tinted just the hatch glass limo black. I think it makes the black top look better . A nice gentle sweep of black from the roof down to the trunk, instead of seeing the engine cover, the window support struts, the 2nd plate of glass between the cabin & the engine bay. I've seen the NSX with the engine cover (sound damper) removed to show off the engine, and for me, I think it makes the car less attractive. But that is just my opinion, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.

I had the windows tinted in my '94 NSX within 12 hours of buying the car, and have tinted every car I own in a similar manner. When I bought my GSR new I refused to pick it up until it was tinted. I enjoy my privacy and do not need people to see me in my cars....just my take on it. :)

..also..I think tint looks best on black top cars because it makes a uniform canopy look....

wow lots of input when it comes to tinting.. thanks guys..

thanks for being a good sport michigan...

I voter for tint. Nearly 90% (Just a guess) of all the cars in my state has some sort of tint. I think it is a regional thing. Those who are not used to seeing tint on cars everyday seem to not like them. Those who see them on almost every car seem to can't live without them.

I couldn't believe it was available when I got it! The lady at the secretary of State asked me to write down my preferences on a form she gave me, so I started writing. She looked across the counter at my first selection (while I was writing the second and third choices) and said "NSX is available". So I grabbed it. Sorry, Jorligan, but it won't be available in Michigan again for a long time. :D

I'm wondering if I should just use this as my avatar:

I say no tint.

Here is my reasoning.

I had my rear hatch off of the car (wow its heavy) to have it tinted. I got halfway to the shop to have it tinted when out of my rear view mirror I see a crown vic slowly pulling up through traffic. (I was in my Legend with no tint). It was a standard black and white CHP with no light bar and only the red light above the rear view mirror.

He was pretty far away and I slowed from a measly 75 down to the posted 65 long before he showed up. No radar to speak of. In my wife's car that has tint on all her windows (including the front) it is *much* harder to pick out cops with the new low profile light bars, much less highway patrol on motorcycles or those that don't run light bars at all!

I basically went home, put the hatch back on the car and have never looked back.

I would say go with the tint... I have my back window dark and my sides are legal in the state of MD.

I prefer the tint although I really didn't have a choice since my black '91 came with it. One of the main reasons why I like it is because I regularly drive with my engine cover removed. It serves as a little bit a protection if you are running a non-CARB approved air intake (or any other visible upgrades) in California like myself. Just another potential reason to go the tint route that I haven't seen yet. --Paul;)

I like tint, as long as it is used in moderation. I prefer a very light tint, this will block the UV rays and at the same time keep the cabin a bit cooler AND also keep the AC running more efficiently. I also like that capsule look, where everything from the door up is dark (to match the black roof) and everything below that is body color.

I have every window tinted in my car, including the front windshield. However, the windshield is SO lightly tinted that NO one ever notices unless they are sitting inside the car and REALLY paying attention. It usually takes a very bright day to realize that a tad less light is coming into the cabin, that is when people tend to figure it out. As for the side and rear windows, those are just lightly tinted. I believe in being able to see and am not interested in sacrificing visibility, the way I drive it would be too much of a safey issue. Plus, I like being able to see cars behind me and guess whether or not they are cops. A slight tint will make valuables hidden inside your car just a bit less visible and will also cut down the amount of glare from SUVs and other vehicles that emit headlight glare excessively.
