tint or no tint

what do you guys think look better on black NSX, dark tint or the classic clean no tint look? thanks..

well, I like people to see who is driving my car. But if you are hideously ugly or trying to hide from someone, then.... :p

all jokes aside, I prefer the clean look on the NSX. I think tint is more for a SUV or sedan. I don't like tint on sports cars.

I say tint! My pic looks real dark(must be the light), but the windows are tinted with the lightest tint available and can pass for semi stock look. I wanted the heat rejection(90sumpin%) and the UV protection, versus the darkness. I tinted ALL the windows(law enforcement, please close your eyes), including the windshield. I found I liked the coolness of the interior, so I tint all my cars this way(only 2 others).

Tinted windows all the way. Tints keep the car cooler and block UV, which is damaging to the interior. My car has a light tint on the sides and a medium on the back. Another plus is that when the rear is tinted you don't get blinded from cars behind you. FYI -Avatar is prior to tinting.

I prefer to tint the windows on my fixed roof cars, but I also feel that my NSX would look a little strange with my driver window down, the passenger window up, and the roof off (my normal driving arrangement) if the door windows were tinted. Tinting only the back windows seemed pointless.

The deciding factor is that I've grown tired of being pulled over when my front windows were tinted on my cars. I don't like the idea of an escalating fine for tinted windows (my understanding as far as CA vehicle code is concerned) being tagged to my cars.

BTW....John, your setup still looks good though. ;)

I went for the lightest tint on the rear hatch only.

Keeps the car a little cooler and diminuish one of the biggest look flaws (IMO) of the NSX: the big-fat black border of the rear hatch! :(

thanks.. all of your cars looks fantastic.

I say no tint! I think cars looks so much better with no tint. Clean and simple. In fact, when I bought my e36 M3 that came tinted, I had the tint removed! :D

I am with Z. No tint all the way. Darker tinting looks "shady" and some look down right ghetto.

I was against tinting my NSX for a long time, eventually I had it done after seeing several out here that were done exceptionally well by Sidney.

I couldn't be happier with it, especially if you have a black roof on your NSX, this is a great cosmetic enhancement, the cockpit look is really completed with a dark rear hatch and a mild side window tint.

EDIT: You can see in my avatar the before tinting there is that odd angle of black produced with the clear hatch, this now looks very sleek after the tint work. It also looks more like the plane now :D

That odd transparent part is exactely was I was talking about in my post above! :)

I also think that on silver (light) tinting is nicer than on some other color because it helps keeping the color scheme simpler!

I was thinking of having the windows of my red NSX tinted green, to remind me that I bought it in December.

The other thing tinting does is it hides that hideous light and dark dappling of the factory tint on the windows. JMO

Again, another one that agrees with my OEM-look problem. The huge black part...

Using a very light tint (that does not look "too black" and too aftermarket) does wonder against that "effect":

Now that I think about it, I still say no tint. But, I just saw a red NSX here in Houston going the other way down the road. I couldn't help but notice it, it was soo bright! Anyways, when we were passing each other by, I couldn't help but notice his blk roof and tint. It almost looked like a two-tone car. The top half blk and the bottom half red. Just didn't look right to me IMHO. Even with a painted roof, it would look better, but still not the look I want.

So this doesn't bother anyone else? I know I can be anal, but the dapple effect is fugly and cheap looking.

i also say no tint if it's not a daily driver. my friend tinted his E46 M3 simply because he drives it all the time in hot weather. the tint will help his car stay cooler but that's about it.

i don't think i'll ever tint my nsx....besides, it's illegal to tint the side windows anyways......i want people to see me :)

Well, I dont have an NSX, but window tinting is pretty basic and applies to all cars so heres my input:

On my Maxima (a dark purple color (rosewood)), the tint makes the car look better due to the windows matching the shade of the car. I have the side windows (all 4) at 20% and the rear windshield at 5%, it looks even all around and during the day it actually keeps the car cooler which protects the interior somewhat. I have found that my tinted windows are great for when the sun is facing the drivers side windows, there no need to even use your sun-visor to cover it as the tint makes it barly noticable. More-so in an NSX, where everyone wants to race you; you dont have to awkwardly ignore the ricers next to you as they see you clearly through your window- if its pitch black, they dont know what you're pulling.

My only problems are that at night I can not see well when reversing in a dark lot or street. Other than that - i'd say go for the tints!

Oh yeah, I forgot that I had the top of the front window tinted. What’s it called? Anyways, I did it to hide my imaginary radar detector and my ez-tag. Also helps when I'm at a light. I can see thru the tint, but it blocks the sun. Cheap $10 mod and hardly noticeable! :D

resale?

The tint may deter potential buyers. Just from the sample in this thread, it seems like everyone has their own personal tastes when it comes to tinting their vehicles.

A potential buyer who happens to not like the way your car has been tinted will make an offer that would take removing the tint into account; or worse, if they don't even want to bother with the hassle, they would just pass.

Thus, I believe the tint would have a negative impact on resale value.

Tinting is so easily removed I really don't think it would have an effect on resale.

In the same way... as you say "it seems like everyone has their own personal tastes when it comes to tinting their vehicles.".

"A potential buyer who happens to " (not - removed!) "like the way your car has been tinted will make an offer that would take " installing" the tint into account"

So it could help you get a better offer too...
