The Official 2021 F1 thread....

I believe penalty fit the incident. I have to disagree with the idea of a race ban, it didn’t appear to be intentional. There was still plenty of time to race.

Glad Lewis is okay, the tire on the helmet didn’t look good

I normally watch the pit lane channel and they talked about how since Silverstone Lewis has stopped shying away from letting Max barge in on him to push him out of the way. Until that race he had backed off a couple times to avoid an incident and he's stopped doing that since and they have had much more contact since then. I think Max has been a big too aggressive and has gotten away with it. Hopefully this will help temper him a little.

I do think that the penalty was a little light. Taking a new motor should incur less penalty than dangerous driving that could have resulted in serious injury.

I don't think a race ban, that would be too much. 3 place grid not quite enough but at least he got something for his reckless move.
Surprised Max never went over and made sure Ham was OK. After Silverstone he complained that Ham celebrated victory when he was in hospital for a routine check up, but Max drove over Ham's head and he never even acknowledged him after! ;)

Schumacher documentary is on Netflix => https://www.netflix.com/title/81399204. I've come to conclusion Micheal is the best F1 driver ever. I know many will say he was a ruthless and maybe that is true, but how he worked especially with each team is was on was special. He knew each team member by their 1st name, their families and even their birthdays. It seems Niki Lauda helped him to get his Ferrari drive. Niki also got Lewis to move to Mercedes.

Certainly in the modern era. Nobody was better at blending God given talent with hard work and the ability to make the team better. Senna had the most talent I ever saw. Hamilton is between them talent wise.

Agreed with the Senna evaluation, Hamilton is next best to me.

Schumacher, just had the entire Ferrari/Bridgestone team to support him, plus has was NASTY as a diver.....ask Hill, Jack and his famous parking stunt in Monaco

How can you not be cut throat in such a competitive world. Each driver from an early age is told to win. #2 is the first loser. That is why I like JB..most normal WC I have seen.

During the Shummy years at Ferrari Ross Braum stated on the podcast Beyond the Grid Ferrari strategy was to use sticky tires and make 2-3 fuel stops because they knew that strategy worked. In 2005 the FIA made a rule change that no tire changes would be allowed, thus preventing Ferrari from having an advantage. Bridgestone apparently didn't have a tire that would last. Ferrari did a good job in 2006, but Shummy made a judgement error at Monaco and also had an engine failure late in the season. He was ruthless for sure. Today's drivers are fairly soft. Just look how many are lapped per race. Max is not ruthless, but clumsy. Lewis is smart like Proust and Lauda.

" Lewis is smart like Proust and Lauda. "
Agree!!!

Another recommendation for the Schumacher documentary, really good watch.
I wonder how many WDC's he would have racked up if he'd gone to a better team instead of 'wasting' all that time with Ferrari. I feel he would have reached double figures.

Shummy time at Mercedes was a team building process. The car wasn't that good and the team a bit unorganized in the early years. Niki helped fix that and later Toto put its current structure in-place. Nico said once if Shummy stayed he was out so Lewis could join the team. It seems Brawn was pushed out after the 2013 season. One has to speculate if Shummy would still be part of the team if healthy. Professional athletes who come out of retirement seldom do well since their mental and physical mind and body don't respond.

ONR-HUNDRED WINS!!!

Felt sorry for Norris, but he made the decision to continue on Slicks

If he waived off the team about pitting, that is going to sting. As much as I don't like too many decisions made by the crew, rain tire choice, is probably one the driver just doesn't have enough situational awareness. He can judge the conditions at any moment, but the crew has just so much more info.

But we all are on this planet to learn. Sometimes by mistake, sometimes by fortune.

Heck of a drive by Verstappen.
