the nsx and the just bought lotus!!

beautiful color on the Lotus. White is my favorite. First of all good luck and might I say you have a very nice taste in cars. Welcome to Lotus ownership. So how do you like it?

I've always liked the lotus (With the exception of the horid reliability issues I've heard about.)but what I want to know is Can a tap person fit comfortably in one? I'm 6'2" 230 lbs and have been considered all legs. I know that my legs won't let me fit in a S2000, MR2 spider, Z3 and barely in a Miata. So I'm curious about the Lotus.

Unlikely. The car really isn't engineered for those in the 6'+ range.

I'm 6'1".. When I sat in one, besides my head being pressed up against the roof, I couldn't fully look out the front windshield.

Legroom/foot-room was the bigger problem though. The wheel well protrudes deeply into the cabin, and the clutch pedal is right near the wheel well. (There's no place to rest your left foot or even get it away from the clutch pedal). I found that I couldn't reliably actuate the clutch pedal, several times my shoe would actually "catch" against the wheel well as I tried to depress the clutch.

That said, I think the Esprit looks great/exotic even after all these years, and they're definitely great performance cars. The used V8 TT's are great bang per buck and with light mods can put out a bunch more power.

They're just not built for taller people

Smoore,
What year is that Lotus? I've always been a fan of Lotus and have considered it quite seriously before I bought my nsx. I think they are great bang for the buck especially the '95 S4S. But I ended up not buying one mainly due to the reliability issue and they just are not the build quality of an nsx. But who knows if the next gen nsx turns out to be a flop, my next car could be the Lotus V8tt.

the lotus has a very different interior than the nsx if you're over 6'0 forget about getting one. the e brake handel is on the left right were you bring in you foot and even though it is down it can still get in the way also i think they could do a better job on headlight design and it has a couple of blind spots. other than that it truely is a nice machine and sounds sweet white/tan i think is almost rare on the lotus people also have no clue what this car is just like the nsx.
we've raced and my nsx off of the bottle is side by side give or take a car, he'll get a car on the hole shot and when i shift to second i catch that car back up and we stay side by side to 120mph but if i use my nitous i was at least 5-6 cars ahead by the end of second and the race was over but his car is stock and i'm sure that'll change soon
as for realability that has not been a problem yet but we have had the car for 2 days so i don't know i heard horror storys about the s4s leaking oil etc. but this car seems solid, i guess we'll soon find out.
his car is a 97 with 18,000 miles on it.
i think i answered everyone's question....;-)

Looks like OZ Racing 'Saturn Plus' 6-spoke monobloc alloys to me:

Also, check this recall out:

By the way, although yellow is not really my color, I really like it on this 97 Esprit:

That was my impression as well. I'm 6'1" with size 12 feet, and I just couldn't fit into the cockpit. I was going to take one out for a test drive (not really interested in buying, just wanted to drive it) but I didn't feel I could competently work the pedals, so we never left the parking lot. But it sure is a nice looking car...

The wing on the back of the NSX is definitely non-stock (and a good illustration of why most aftermarket wings are ugly). I believe the wing on the back of the Lotus is stock.

Actually, it was the Esprit wing I didn't like :-)

I didn't notice the NSX wing, but the only aftermarket NSX wing I like is the CompTech mid-aggressor.

just got back from driving a lotus today, a 98 with 9k miles.

im 6'1.5 and 11.5 feet. thats shoe size
wink.gif

yeah, i really noticed the tight squeeze with the pedals. hard to drive.

no problems with head room--i was really close to the top, but not touching.

tell me about the gearbox. the one i drove was a real *#**h to get into first gear. the guy warned me and i still made the mistake once. is this typical?

fast car. surprisingly, i didnt think it 'felt' all that much faster than the nsx. definately more engine there, though.

i did walk away feeling much better about the nsx. this nsx is just so easy to drive. i think the lotus is much more demanding, at least the one i drove was.

anyway, congratulations on your new lotus. keep us posted on how you like it.

Smoore, how mod'd is your car and what year is it?

my car is getting up their in mods i have the following that i can remeber:
rm exhaust
comptech headers
customs cat by pass pipes
intake (k&n)
TE-37 polished in and out
h&r springs
koni adjustable shocks
rm nitrous kit (100 shot)
exedy clutch (soon)
rm white dials
wings west kit
phase rear wing
dali twin scoop hood
hid headlights
under body tray
lots of chrome
etc. etc. etc.
also the car had lost st least 300lbs if not 400lbs
the car is a 91 because i sold my 96 for the weight plus i don't have a car payment :-)

as for the wing it look better i think in person that in many pictures plus it does keep the car pined to the highway at high speeds the only bad thing is it cost me nearly $4000- with shipping bacause it's carbon fiber i guess and i think if i could do it all over again i would use that money for something else. just like the color i have people hate the wing or love it nobody ever goes " it's o.k."

one day i'll send in some proper pictures of my car

So with ALL those mods, it was able to keep up with the lotus stock.. sheesh.. thats not a good thing.

net viper you did'nt understand the original post

my nsx is side my side OFF the bottle in other words the lotus runs say 12.8-13.0 in the quater so my car OFF the bottle will run around that
when we race from a second gear roll with me using my nitrous i was 6-7 cars ahead by the middle of third gear it wasn't even a race we both let off and decided that we'll race again with my nitrous when he has the new ecu, exhaust, the cats removed and intake beacuse that is good for nearly 100 horsepower
but until then the cars are side by side when i am NOT on the bottle which i thought was really good for a n/a 6 cylinder to be even with a 8 cylinder twin turbo
