Tendonitis - Golfer's elbow.. ouch

Hey Dave..... I will give it a "shot"

Any neck pain? any pain shooting down from the shoulder? Any recent trauma? Can u summarize what you have tried so far...meds, braces, P.T.?

BTW.. injections don't usally work for medial epicondylitis. They do for lateral(tennnis eblow) but not for medial.

Well, I cant say much more than I did in the first post.

It has been going on at least 9 months now. I have had two injections. They help for about a month or so and then it hurts a little.. and gradually where it is extremely painful to do anything.

No recent trauma.

I have tried.
1. Cordisone shots
2. Flector Patch
3. 2400 MG ibuprofen for a week
4. ice daily 20 min on, 20 off 20 on
5. Sonic Relief -- home ultrasound kit
6. Thera Bands --- this REALLY hurts now.
7. Tendonitis brace that goes around your fore arm.
8. Elbow braces.

I think that about sums it up.

Anyone had this before? It is freaking KILLING ME.

I have had 2 Cortisone shots in the last 6 months and I don't want to keep doing that.

I lift 3x per week and hit golf balls 1-2x week plus play golf once a week... so obviously that does not help. I tried taking a month off and it made no difference.

Here is what I am doing right now.
1. Rehab stuff using THERA Bands
2. ICING
3. Braces
4. 1600-2400mg of ibuprofen.

Still hurts like hell.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,

Read through some of these posts, there's a lot of good information. I had golfer's tendinitis for over a year. It started with overdoing some weights. Some of the problem may have been due to using a computer mouse with my left hand too much. Switched the mouse to my right hand.

I think that getting cortisone shots is a bad idea. Tried it.

Anyway, went to an acupuncture guy, and he fixed it. An alternate to consider.

I 100% agree with the acupuncture, it has helped me out where nothing else would, not only that but I have recommended it to numerous people and it has never failed them either.

Try it - you'll see.

Forgot to mention that another co-worker I know had acupuncture and it cured him of tennis elbow in a month. If I didn't hate needles so much I might try it.

Thanks for the tips. I called an acupuncture place and we'll see. I am ready to try anything that is a reasonable price.

The acupuncture place of course did not take insurance so I am not paying $100 a visit. Just art for me

Forgot to metion, I REALLY HATE needles - but acupunture works so well that I still get it when I need it -

I was actually skeptical the first few times, but it is absolutely undeniable.

It works. Period.

Sorry guys, I surrender. I can't deal with this pain any more. I stopped the ibuprofen last week and i can't barely move my arm without a ton of pain. Waking up in the morning is pure agony.

Time for another cortisone shot.:frown:

remember the cortizone is reducing inflamation, but it won't make the problem go away and it may fool you into overusing your flexer muscles in the forearm to your detriment. You need to rest it longer and try some of the items listed.

plan is to get the shot and take a month off. I will try the art also.

I would pay the $100 if it got rid of the problem.

I know this will sound crazy as I thought too before I tried it. Several years ago I had tennis elbow for a year, trying everything. Finally someone mentioned trying a magentic bracelet on the wrist of the arm that had the pain. After about a month it was gone and has never come back. I recently started to feel the same pain in my other elbow and put the bracelet on and in 2 weeks, no more pain. Trust me it will be worth a try. It's better than getting shots, taking meds and/or paying for treatment, all things I had tried. Best part is they are only about 20 bucks for a nice one.

It has made a believer out of me.

Oh, I agree with you. But, they said 8-10 treatments @ $100 each.

OK, I can tell you from experience that if you spend the $100 two things will happen:

- after the first visit you will have no more pain.

- you will feel that the $100 was more than worth it.

I have never tried a treatment that worked as well for anything, and I am very typically a skeptic and non-believer.

If it does not work, you'll only be out $100 - maybe $200 as it is nothing like other treatments where you need weeks or months to feel better - it basically works right now, I have seen players get hurt, get acupuncture and go right back out on the field.

Tried some Keneiso Tape. It actually works better than anything I have tried so far. Pretty impressed.

I am going to the hospital on Monday Nov 21 2011 for PRP.
Thats where they remove some of my blood, spin it and reinject it into my elbow area.
This will be done by Dr. Mike Morhart, MSC MD FRCS(c) - Plastic surgeon.
He did my carpel tunnel operation last month and some exploratory on the top of my hand through 3 small slits.
Here is a link for info.
Has anyone had this?
I am going to Jamaica at the end of the week, so I know I'll have pain, but how much I'm not sure, maybe i should wait til I get back from my one week vacation.

My doctor mentioned this also. It was like $300 here. He said maybe a 50/50 chance of a it working.

Here is what I did:
1. cortisone shot
2. rest
3. Voltaren Gel - 4mg 4x per day.

Right now it is not sore to the touch anymore, but if I lift something heavy I can still tell it is not 100%.

I am still resting. No Golf. No Weights.

Life sux!
