Super XM Radio Deal

Ah, that makes a LOT more sense.

While I admit that I don't know for certain, I can't imagine why ANY input would bypass the volume controls (for obvious reasons)...
I am guessing he really means OUTPUT. A "line level" output would be at the pre-amp signal level, and be independent of volume settings on the output device; a "speaker" or "headphone" output would be variable.

Got the UPS shipment tracking info, and hope to get my XM Roady soon.

Wow, I can't believe that it took this long to make the Slickdeals web site.

"XMRadio has the The Delphi XM Roady with free Wireless Audio Adaptor for $50 + $7.75 shipping. Enter access key xmdphxm04 The radio normally sells for $120. Thanks nsxtasy.

Conditions: You have to order three months of the satellite radio subscription at the same time (for $9.99 per month if it's the first radio in your family, $6.99 for the 2nd-5th), and if you don't keep your subscription active for six months, you will be charged an extra $60."

Our unit arrived yesterday, and I set it up and tested it this morning. Activation took a little longer (calling their CSR line helped speed things up). Also did the "rebate" paperwork for the at-home unit.

Overall a pretty nice setup, although I'm sure we'll have to fiddle with mounting options, customization, programming, etc.

NSX fitment questions:
1) where have folks mounted the (magnetic) antenna ?
2) FM transmitter vs. cassette deck -- is the latter THAT much better, or is the difference negligible enough to just go with the more "flexible" solution ?? Like most folks, the NSX is my only car with a tape deck.

Since I'm moving it from car to car, I just place it on the dashboard.

Try it and see (or, hear) for yourself.

I just got it. When you activate it over the web must you pay any additional fees such as activation charge? Arn't 3 months included in the price? Do they know this, or must you explain it to them?

No.

In the $49 price for the radio? No. In the ~$85 total of your order? Yes.

The problem with web activation is not that it costs anything; it doesn't cost anything extra. The problem, if there is one, is in how long it takes. I tried activating mine via the web; it supposedly takes ~30 minutes. When it hadn't activated after ~45 minutes, I telephoned them, and they activated it that way. Does that mean that web activation doesn't work? Or does it mean that it works, but activation just takes longer than they say? Or does it mean that telephone activation is instantaneous, and web activation isn't?

XM

Sorry Spyderman33 the deal must of expired at XM. I got the deal from a coworker. I think XM wanted to get rid of the "ROADY" radio because it was being replaced by the "ROADY 2" If I come across another deal I will post it

Can the Roady scan channels? The only way I can see is having to rotate the knob to preselect the channel, then push it in to go to it. It's a clumsy way of searching through the stations. I know there is a remote available for it. Does that help?

Thanks

the promo for the "free home kit" is for units purchased through 9/12/04.
Mail-in deadline is 10/12/04.
That's later than the deadline when I bought mine a month or two ago. I have a feeling that they might extend the deadline each time it expires. I could be wrong, though...

Can the kit in this deal be hard with RCA style plugs instead of FM transmitter and where on your NSX did you put the antenna?
Last question exactly what is the footprint(length/width) of the antenna base?

Yes and no. Yes, you can get a connector cable with a stereo mini phone jack at one end (for the audio output of the Roady) and two RCA plugs at the other end (for the auxiliary input). That way, the output of the Roady can go to the RCA plugs.

The problem you run into is that I think the stock stereo head unit in the NSX does not have auxiliary inputs for RCA plugs. Which is why you would need the harness that MiamieNeSeX posted a link for. At a cost twice that of the radio itself.

Another option for the stock NSX stereo, with better fidelity than the FM modulator (although not as good as a direct line to an auxiliary input) is to use the cassette adaptor that comes with the unit. I'm going that way (makes it easy, since I'm switching it around among three different cars) and it sounds fine.

I'm just placing it on the front of the dashboard. Reception is almost always excellent, except on an occasional long underpass.

The antenna looks like a small computer mouse, with the wire coming out of the end of it. It is 59 mm long and 44 mm wide.

I beleive you can get a harness with the RCAs wired in.

That harness won't accommodate an input guys - that is to output the pre-outs from the stock radio to an external amplifier. Unfortunately, there is nowhere on that harness that you can splice an input into the head unit. Incidentally, the parts for that harness are less than $20.

What your really need is the Blitzsafe adapter that plugs in to the DIN socket where the CD cable goes - you can still utilize the CD changer however as it also plugs in to the adapter.

Not cheap at $100, but makes for a clean install and no messing with cassette adapters hanging out of the dash, or the loss of quality associated with FM modulation. This would be the way I would go if trying to integrate any external device to the stock head system (including portable MP3 etc)

Thanks for the clarification, Ken. (I had previously seen the website for the Blitzsafe adapter and assumed the link from MiamieNeSeX was the same one, and I didn't click to make sure. Hence my reference to the $100 price which was in a different link, not that one. Sorry... :o )

I still don't know what the hell that means! I think you mean the NEO interpretation in this instance but it's still driving me crazy to know what it really is.

I thought perhaps you had thought that was the reference - I had to check the price of the XM & work it out backwards! That (the Blitzsafe) is an expensive component for what it is but there's not much alternative really - captive market, what can you say?!

Really? Don't worry about it... it's derived from some old scottish saying nobody knows about.
