Sold my 2004 NSX for $63k: Terrible resale value

Congrats Sandy! Now you will be able to move on to bigger and better things. At least in your mind, which is the only one that matters in this case:) Sushi???

"My NSX was severely disappointing from a performance standpoint"

That's just an unreal statement in my mind even though my last several cars had way more HP than my little 270hp NSX.
When you say performance, are you talking straight line?
So far, nothing I have driven has rewarded me with as much pleasure or comes close to the actual "complete" driving experience of my NSX.
The steering is what does it for me, plus its eagerness to pull with glee to 8000 rpm.
Oh, then there's its cornering ability...........
What will its replacement be? I really would like to know.
(Curious If I have driven it?) Porsche? ZO6? F?
On the other hand, have never been in an 04, could they really have changed that much in 10 yrs?

You got jacked.

I drove my 00 down from NYC and the grin is a mile wide. What cars are out there that have the type of road feel and performance of this one?? This car is a cut under what you get from a Ferrari in terms of sheer joy to drive. A 911 on a road trip? Whatever. Not inspiring, really. Got friends and family w/ 911s. Great cars, certainly the new 997S is faster in a straight line, but so what?

With all these mega-hp cars coming out, like the C6 and whatnot, I just wonder where these people are actually getting to USE this acceleration. My high-speed driving is on safe interstates which can support high speeds. I hit 110 or 120 on the E st onramp the other day onto 66 in DC and ended up w/ unrecoverable oversteer due to the goddamned HUGE expansion "joints" (one is a large hump that may have caused airdam scrape if taken at speed STRAIGHT). I mean, OK, cornering...cool. Yeah, whatever, within limits until the shitty roads jump up and bite you. I can't take these curves at the NSX's limits, much less an even higher performance car.

There's nowhere to USE more than even 200hp, much less 290 or 600 or something. Stoplight racing is DANGEROUS and reckless. That leaves open high-speed interstate cruising with the top off in the sun and there ain't a freakin car south of a Ferrari spyder which can match this whip.

If I decide I need more hp, I'll get a SC. As things stand, this car ALREADY has more than enough power to get me killed.

The NSX is a great all around car, but severely lacking in power. It was too sloooooow in my opinion.

I will be taking delivery of my Porsche GT2 within the next week, which should be quite a bit more entertaining to drive than my NSX.

Its not designed to slide like a dirt track car, what it does do
is amazing to me. To each his own I guess.

GT2! DAMN! I'd say it will be. It also cost 2.5 x more than the NSX. If I am ever in Vegas, I want a ride! :)

A Porsche GT2?
ok, I see your point.
Not a fair comparison 190k car V.S the NSX.
Am on track to retire in 11 yrs at 55.
No $200k cars in my future
Well I guess there is the lotto? LOL LOL
Enjoy!

The 997 GT3 will be a wonderful car.

I wanted the turbo motor, since boosting the power will be much easier when I get bored of the stock 477 hp.

It is grey and I will post pictures when I get it.

Absolutely. Just wait a little while so I have time to have the GT640 kit installed.

Had a feeling the GT2 was going to be the winner:) Hmm, what do we need to do to one up you now... Give us a ring for sushi anytime, and we will try to keep up with you and your appetite Kobayashi!

You know a car is never a good investment choice, right? Buying a new car especially is a horrible financial choice in most cases. This is why I have never bought a new car as of yet.

And buying the NSX for horsepower is like buying a Miata for trunk space.

It sounds like you should never have owned the NSX in the first place, since you were looking for steak and you got sushi instead.

Do you track your cars? I just can't see where on the street the NSX does not have enough usable power. Only on the track or if you do illegal street racing I guess the NSX lacks power...

Best of luck with the GT2. Just don't act like Allan-Lambo, who rips on the NSX all the time.

Miata can fit 2 asian midgets fuss free.

NSX..... way i see it is that the car is way over priced. Everyone knows you paid toooooo much for it, performance wise... but the appeal of NSX lies in this very uber exuberance of "i paid too much for this car, i know it, you know it, everyone knows it... why what?! WHAT?! you cant afford one can ya?!"

also so very sexy.

I do some track work, but mainly aggressive street driving.

I don't plan to rip on the NSX. I just had a few complaints during its tenure.

Cheers!

I agree with some of his complaints...understeer, lack of power, price. All else outweighs those two issues in my opinion:) I sorta disagree with the depreciation. Buy it used and you will barely lose any money on the car. There is a point where the depreciation bottoms out. The guy that bought Sandy's car may in fact get all his money back, maybe a nice junk of his taxes (her?) if he sells next year...

Personally I cannot justify paying up for an '03, '04, '05' since it is essentially the exact car as the '02. So all else being equal (condition, mileage, etc), I would take the lowest dollar price one regardless of year. the '05 will depreciate at a more rapid pace, and converge with the price of the '02...premium should not be that big. as an example, how much more would you pay for a 1999 NSX vs. a 1997 NSX? not much more....if all is equal other than year, it really does not matter.

I agree, lots of understeer. Comfortable seats though.

Yeah, till you hit a goddamned giant hump in the road. Then, you get to have oversteer and slowly slide out and whack the wall. Now I need a new LR quarterpanel and some suspension components.

Don't blame the car  Unless something broke before the hump.

it's always someone elses, or something elses fault:)

Consider yourself lucky being alive and tell yourself sad story about you doing 110-120 and hit a hump, (in a corner)!! You definately have much bigger balls than me.....

I'm more than surprised that you are trying to blame the car, where's the hump, why did you hit it??

I am not shedding any tears for CerberusM5; if he can afford to replace the NSX with a new turbo GT2 Carrera, then the few thousand dollars he lost in his hasty descission is probably not going to hurt to bad.

Someone, and I hope it was a private party and not a trade in to a dealership, got a wonderful car for very cheap indeed. Good for them and if it was a dealership, hopefully they will pass some of their good fortune on to the next owner....

As for poor performance, please. I have owned plenty of nice Porsches, MBZ, BMW, Ferrari, etc., the NSX is most well balanced all-around performance car I have ever owned. Notice I said all-around performance. Sure a lot of cars can out drag it butI do not care. I do not drag race my NSX. This is a performance car that does everything well.

I wish CerberusM5 the best with his new ride.
