Is there any downside to removing the front fender liners?

Yes, you may experience some little "smallpox" signs on the upper side of the fender - caused by small stones etc. that are thrown inside the fender - especialy on the track.

That may even crack the painting on the upper side.

I've countered this with a liberal dose of "Undercoat Spray" bought from the local AutoZone. Havent' gotten any "smallpox" from the track and limited street use but your experience may differ if yours is a daily driver.
