so the story goes like this ..

i was talking to friend last week over lunch..and he had just gotten back from Vancouver..

on the flight he was reading a R&T magazine that featured a NSX in it along with with the 911 and z06.. anyways the passenger next to him tells my friend that he had a 91 NSX before and he bought it new in 91.. the passenger goes on to my friend that Acura invited all NSX owners (i think in western North America) to an all expense paid 3 day outing in Seattle (accomendations).. the festivities included time on a track, demos on driving the car, caring for the car, etc..

the passenger also stated that all nsx were lead on a "parade" without police excort with all NSX heading to the racetrack..

jsut wondering if there is any truth to this story for all the people that bought a brand new NSX in 91.

There were events held at racetracks throughout the country to expose owners and prospects to the car. From that it's not too hard to imagine a convoy of enthusiasts going out to eat/whatever after the track day.

This sounds like one of those stories that starts out true, but gets exaggerated in the retelling over the years.

I was invited to one of these events back then, but did not go. It did include time on the track, as a driver (with instructor) as well as a passenger. However, it was only one day, not three, and did not include any accommodations. There was no "parade" outside of the track grounds. It was free for prospects (e.g. Porsche owners) but they charged $500 for NSX owners - which is why I did not go, because that was a lot more than typical charges by other organizations for a one day track event.

that for the posts...

nsxtacy --> i can't beleive that they would charge NSX owners and not charge other owners of other cars money on the track..

i don't know what to think of it ..steal from the rich to give to the poor or do porsche have special priviledges that NSX owners do not....

anyways my above thoughts probably have no merit at all...

maybe i'll stretch the story of owning a NSX to any future kids in may have one day just to get an "oooooooooooooo" from them...

I think it was a matter of providing an incentive to owners of competing cars to try to gain their business.

They weren't obvious about it; the owners got the invite with the fee printed, and the non-owners got a different mailing.

Yes, remember the internet was not at all the info source it is now back in 91. I dare say the number of sites back then was only in the hundreds or few thousands, and AOL was not in existence IIRC. So it would be unlikely that people would be able to share info so openly about the fee/non-fee mailers like they would be able to now. I would seriously doubt Acura, or any manufacturer would try that stunt now, because they would see it pasted all over the web within hours.
