Oil Pump install

What's involved and where is it located?

Just wondering if it would be a good idea to replace it as a serviceable item. I wont be doing it myself.

Is it bolted to the outside of the engine?

How much of a big job is it?

Engine out?

As long as you have the stock rev limiter in your NSX, there is no need to replace this. The oil pump only becomes an issue for race engines. There is a resonance frequency slightly above 8000 rpm that can cause the OEM pump gear, which is made from pressed powdered metal, to shatter. The solution is using a billet pump gear, but replacing also would require the gear housing to be machined and clearanced to fir the new gear. That's a lot of work for something that likely will never fail (unless you remove the rev limit and constantly hit 8500+ rpm).

Cool thanks for the info.

I saw that SOS do a unit with a gear pre installed. Just needing it to be fitted.

I wont be raising the limit but may be in the 400+ club in the near future, just want to tick all the safety precaution boxes.

I blew my oil gear at the track. I was revving, yes but not pegging it to redline for long straights, just blips here and there. Iveveead stories of normal highway driving catastrophic failure. Anyways. Its a bitch to replace $1000 in labor alone just to get to it. Itll be much cheaper if your already doing the 60 k service since you close to it. you dont need the housing milled, thats only fir the SOS hi flow one. The dali one and the toda are a direct billet replacement.

I scoured my bearings and cracked the housing. The only thing that saved my motor as a whole was the accusump system I had.

Do the gear and an ati damper or at least the shield for the crank pully and check your VVis screws. Those are the three biggest prevention services to do. The video on me blowing my gear is posted in the tracktalk section if your interested

Cool thanks,

I have done ATI pulley and removed the VVIS altogether.

Just the oil pump left and i like the idea of the SOS unit so i have higher oil pressure, have external oil cooler so more pressure wouldnt go a miss.

I keep hearing about the accusump systems i think i will look into them next year.
