NetViper,
I have a 2000 NSX-T with the Comptech Supercharger. I will let you know in a week or so how it does at the drag strip. I am also going to get it dynoed real soon. I can tell you this though, I also have a 993TT and the NSX now feels just as fast. I ran a 11.9 in my 911 and the only mod was a new computer.

Power shifting means you never let off the throttle the whole time you are acclerating. As you approach redline you hit the clutch, shift and get off the clutch quickly while maintaining throttle the entire time. If you can do it right it is the fastest way to accelerate, ESPECIALLY on a forced induction car since you will maintain full boost through the shift. It is not particularly good for your clutch though, so you don't really want to do it every day.

To do it right, you have to master two things. First, you want to shift very fast so the RPMs don't sit there bouncing off the rev limiter. Second, you want to know exactly how fast you can shift so you do not shift too early. It's sort of like the Price Is Right - you want to end up as close to the rev limiter as possible without going over!

dswartz said he is shifting at 7800 RPM. The general rule of thumb for when you know you're powershifting correctly is that you gain less than 500 RPM between the time you start the shift and the rev limiter, so he is right on the money. And with the fast-revving NSX engine, less than 500 RPM is not just good, it's very good.

CarGuy!

I am anxious to see what kind of times you get. I was very impressed with Car and Driver's 12.9 quarter. So much for people saying the NSX is slow. I would be interested to find out what the current NSX would do using the i-VTEC 350 HP V6 they are talking about putting in the next generation car.

Nonetheless, the 830 HP viper in Motor Trend is the fastest thing I have ever seen. So now we just have to find someone who wants to make a 830 HP NSX to take it on!

NetViper -= looking to get an NSX before I turn 26! =- Didn't make 25 :(

Jason, my 1/8 mile was 8.1 @ 87 mph. By the way, I’m running 225x50x16 Nitto 555R Drag Radials. These are almost identical in diameter to the stock 245x40x17 Yokos.

I just got the video to the "Car and Driver TV" show which tested the NSX. It was indeed a 2001 yellow targa they tested and I can't believe it did a 4.5 0-60 and 12.9 quarter. Since the 2001 is essentially the same as a '97-'00 NSX, same weight and horsepower, how can it be about half a second quicker from when they tested a '97 back in the July '97 issue? I thought maybe the coupe will be able to be this quick but not the targa, which is about a hundred pounds heavier. So should I not be afraid to take on the C5 Vette, BMW M3 or even the Ferrari 360?

The two models are indeed identical in design. Differences could result from differences in power from one specific car to another, differences in drivers, differences in atmospheric conditions or other test conditions, or just the fact that test results aren't precise (one run won't take EXACTLY the same amount of time as another).

So should I not be afraid to take on the C5 Vette, BMW M3 or even the Ferrari 360?

All of these models have approximately the same acceleration as the 3.2-liter NSX. (Magazines have the regular Vette and the M3 doing 0-60 in 4.9 seconds or so, with the Z06 Vette and the 360 around 4.5 seconds or so.) Differences between these models are likely to be less than differences between two particular drivers.

Please dont flame me on this cause Im sure I didnt use the best judgement but this info might be pertinent(sp?)
Yesterday,I ran across a newer Viper R/T and we went from a few 40mph rolls.I expected him to run away from me but to my amazement we were dead even to 75-80 then I started to pull VERY slowly.Maybe by a fender.Any way,I have a 97 NSX-T with intake and RM exhaust. He was definitely on it cause when he would start in front of me I could see a puff of black smoke. Now I know there are a lot of people that would say there is no way a car with 112 trap speeds could pull on a car with 116 trap speeds but I Do know how to drive my car.Of course I say there isnt much skill in drag racing from a roll so who knows. All in all I am very impressed with the performance of my car.I never imagined the car would run this well against such great cars.(Also ran even with a GNX w/work)

Joe

Sorry so long.

The day I bought my car, the previous owner rolled up on a Viper RT/10 and it was the same story. We pulled a little on it, and then it was even....nothing gained, and nothing lost. That was until we hit the Nitrous.....then it was game over.....he he.

But before that, it was actually even...my car is a 91' with RM exhaust, intake. Interesting.

Im sure pullin a viper was just icing on the cake.
