Did anyone catch Car and Driver Television today? They had a segment on the 2001 NSX. They clocked 0-60 in 4.5 and 1/4 in 12.9! That's Fast!

They also discussed rumors of the next gen NSX - a V8 with 500 HP and a price over 120,000!

I did catch that! Was a nice segment huh. Makes me want a 97+ real bad. I love to see those good numbers, you know for everyone who says the NSX is "slow"

It was cool! I didnt understand what he said about not having a CD player though?? I thought the car has always had a CD player??

Those numbers (4.5 and 12.9) make a 360 look like a waste of money! Now I want an NSX more than ever.

I wonder how fast a 97+ with the COMPTECH supercharger runs? Anyone know?

Darn, I missed it. Can anyone tell me whether it was a coupe or targa they tested and was it actually a 2001 model. Their 0-60 and quarter mile times are exactly the same as when they tested a late model coupe in their 0-150-0 test in their August '98 issue.

The car was a targa. I am not sure if it was an actual 2001 though. Hey also guys, there is a great article in the new Road and Track about the NSX. They had great things to say. I love this car more and more everyday!

What was the Camaro bit about? C & D said that when the new Camaro was released in '93 with the black cockpit, "Chevy had stolen Acura's thunder. From then on, the NSX would be mistaken as just another Camaro."

What?? That's the first I've heard of that...

------------------
Red (w/ red top) '91. Comptech Supercharger. RM headers. Comptech exhaust. Short ratio gears. Ring and pinion swap. RM racing suspension. 18/17 wheels/tires.

'98 Viper GTS. Red with no stripes. Stock.

The two cars compete in totally different markets. A comment like that can only come from someone not familiar with the NSX market.

I agree! I have never heard anyone say the NSX looks like the camaro?? Someone shopping for the NSX would never look at a camaro. Most people that I have talked to say people mistake the NSX for a ferrari... not a camaro!

Well David, you ARE in Texas and a lot of those yokels getting off their bull at the rodeo have taken one too many horns in the ass.

The NSX-T really confuses them 'cos they don't know how to sit on the car and ride it when the roof is off!

I was having breakfast Sunday morning with my wife and a Dad and his kid were talking cars right next to our table - my yellow '99 was parked right in front of us. Dad to his kid: What kind of car do you think that is? Kid: I don't know. Dad: It looks like the new Camaro, or maybe it's the new Corvette . . what do you think? Kid: I don't know. Dad: I think it's the new Camaro.

What can I say, it didn't even deserve a response from me!

I have been hearing a lot of 'Texas yokel' comments lately and it is really irritating. I have lived in over twenty places, including both coasts, and I have not found anyplace that can even begin to compare to Austin. I understand you made the remark in jest, but it is the same type of humor as 'everyone in CA is a fag' or 'people in FL are to stupid to be allowed to vote.'

I was not born in Texas, I live here because I can live anywhere I want.

I have to agree with David on this one. Certain late model Camaros have the same black/red paint scheme as the early NSX along with a similar integrated spoiler, swoopy nose, and low slung profile. The cars are visually VERY similar - it's a bit much to expect anyone but the automotive cognoscente to know or care about the difference.

P.S. Never lived in Austin, but had the best steak ever in a place called Z's(sp) while doing a deal with Moto. Simple New York strip with pepper crust and whiskey demi-glace... Wonder if they ship express, like those seafood joints in Boston?

If you really want to confuse people who think its a Camaro or Corvette, just drive around with your engine cover removed!

By the way, if 1/4 mile times make you want a 97+, how's 12.58 @ 111 mph for my 98 Coupe?

Hey Todd, looks like they can't spell either!

Agreed - but Car and Driver should know better.

BTW I'm laughing at some of the comments here. Too funny. Glad we can (usually) kid around without taking offense...

By the way, are you bouncing off the rev limiter when you power shift? I am probably going to be able to (finally) run my car hard at the strip in the next week or two and I have been thinking a lot about the fastest way to get it down the track. I know a couple of guys with Supra's here in town that run in the 10's and they don't lift at all or they lose boost in a big way.

No. Bouncing off the rev limiter costs me about .1 seconds. With your Turbos, it will cost you more because you lose boost. Depending on the speed of your power shift you just need to leave enough room to prevent hitting the rev limiter. I shift at about 7800 in each gear.

Good. That confirms what I was thinking. Thanks for the input.

Hmm - straying even more off topic here, but can anyone explain under what circumstances a "power shift" actually results in an advantage?

Or perhaps start by a fuller definition of the term.

Genuinely curious,

Ralph

Man 12.58 w/out a power adder is killer! A good friend of mine (Darrel Cox) with the Speed Needs neon saw you running at Englishtown and told me about it. My car is yellow as well

Congrats on winning the Comp 6 What was your 1/8 et and mph? My car is a 91 w/ I/H/E ecu and RM NOS. Previous owner showed me a 11.90 timeslip on full slicks he says.(seems a little quick to me) I haven't had a chance to run the car but once in the 1/8 on just the motor. I ran 9.1 @ 83 on the 19/18 wheels. I was pretty pleased considering the weight and gearing loss of the big wheels. Ran through the traps in 2nd. I do not have the short gears at the momment, (can't decide on them) So I am excited to make a pass on the bottle w/drag radials on the stock wheels. Just as you and David I am after a quick straight line pass, I just wish I was starting with a 3.2 motor and a 6speed! Talk to ya again soon guys!
